Hear from Ed Ward, Jerry French and Trevor Covich about what makes OPST's Commando Heads extraordinarily fishable. These Skagit Heads are the result of decades of focus on sustained anchor systemology (SAS) by Ed Ward and Jerry French. They are designed to expand the capabilities of shorter spey rods, switch rods and single hand rods beyond that of normal. You may be surprised at their short length, but this was no accident. The ultra-short design provides an effortless casting feel and enhances performance in circumstances of restricted casting room, troublesome winds and in casting bulky flies. It also makes them more fishable than longer lines that are hard to control on the water. Wanna roll cast? Underhand? Nymph? Single hand Skagit with a haul? Overhead? Go right ahead. You have never cast a line like the Commando. www.opskagit.co....

I swear by OPST shooting heads. I went fishing today for steelhead in the coast range here in Oregon. It was stormy, wendy and just the conditions where you want that product to deliver.. I was absolutely amazed by how it handled the wind that was practically hitting my face. Thanks for the product..! Totally getting a 3rd one.🔥

I have one on my 10' 4 wt tfo and one on your 10' 7 wt Gloomis. This is the most amazing setup you could think of. You can do any think you want with this and distance with accuracy is so easy.

OPST has totally revolutionized my approach to fly fishing. I've been a fanatical fly fisherman since 11 years old back in 1993.

That clip at :34 would have been so sick if he'd hit that boat that floated in on him. Still a hell of a cast.

Awesome product! I have the 225 grain on my 5wt rod. Shooting the line under and around trees with no problems - can't believe the distance and accuracy. The area I can cover is great. I just got the 375 grain on my switch rod, again the distance and accuracy is great. If you get Commando Head, recommend getting the Lazarus line too.

I´ve been looking at these lines with great interest. In Denmark we have very small rivers with very limited room for casting and a lot of vegetation on the banks. I have a 7,6´4wt rod, and I´m thinking the 175gr or 200gr head would be a good choice for My rod. I think a T8 or max T11 will be needed for these waters, but I´m not sure about the length - or will polyleaders be a better choice rather than sink tips?

What grain weight would you guys recommend to match with an 11' 8 wt Orvis Access Switch?

Just getting into steelhead fishing, west BC. Would you recommend a more traditional 13' 7w with your head or a switch 11' 8 w for more versatility?

i'd like try one of your skagit heads on my Pieroway Metal Detector 12' 7wt. What grain do you recommend. I am fish in and around Terrace, B.C. I fish the Skeena River and it's tribs.

Love the video. BTW, I'm seeing a normal and short stop at the end of the backcast like anyone else using a shooting head does. What's the big fuss about not stopping? If your not stopping then your usually creeping. Short line=short stop, long line=longer stop, etc... Just saying :)
@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj
@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj 3 года назад
He literally explains why and how it works.. (its only for this short head, short rod systems)..... I totally agree there was some funky casts. whoever put the video together actually showed some blown achors as well. Could be the lack of footage or the editor not knowing......... Just do your best to try and not stop carrying the tension. Yes the shorter line, the shorter the stop only works to prove his theory. He's taking it a step further as The head is like 15 feet lol, The most insanely short head so basically no stop..

That fly line looks great. Do you think it would go well on a sage accel 11'4 6 weight?

Dominique LeBlanc Absolutely. I would suggest a 300 grain for that rod. It should rock!
