NOT an engineer over here, but I also love your videos and tutorials! The way you explain things makes sense to me and your videos are an inspiration either with the pattern or the extra color ways you show. Thank you!
Hey Miss Brita you sweet young thing. I normally like uniformity, but that scrappy version is gorgeous. I have been going through my stash and may just have enough to work on it. Thanks so much, hugs 🤗.
You are so sweet. I agree that the scrap version is beautiful. I would love to see your version. Please send me a picture. Thanks brita@questioningquilter.com
Talk about movement! Whenever I move my eyes over the surface of the quilt, the "spiraling" shows up clear as a bell ... but, when I look at a moving spot, the "spiraling" shifts ... pretty slick!
I really thought this quilt was so far out of my ability I almost didn’t even watch - but watch I did and I bought the pattern! You are a genius! It really is easy if a quilter just follows the directions and sews her seams well! I a,so took some screen shots (I use an iPad) and I know I can find your video again! Thank you!
Stunning quilt! I’m going to buy the pattern and put it on my to do list. I’ve always wanted to do a red and white quilt so this might be the pattern for it.
Oh my Brita, you've done it again! What a lovey talented Lady you are.! Amazing!!! Im going to have to buy this pattern fairly soon me thinks.😂😂😂🤔🤔🤔 Thank you. Love from New Zealand.❤
So exciting to hear from the other side of the world. Does the quilt look different upside down? 🙃😉 If you do make this quilt, I hope that you will share a picture with me. Thanks so much for being here. Love from USA.
This is so you of you! I remember your first videos when you would mention being nervous. Well that was then and this is now. The pattern makes my eyes crazy** and I can see myself managing to mix up the order but I’m going to rewatch this video several times for the pleasure of watching your marvelous presentation. I love how you showed your bulk production method and how excited you get by sharing your process and techniques. What branch of engineering did you practice? As always, thank you for sharing your talents and joy. You’ve opened so many possibilities for your fan club! ** love the scrappy version
It is wonderful that you have been here from the beginning when I didn't really know what I was doing, to now where I have more confidence, but still struggle with my audio. I am working in a spare bedroom turned sewing and recording studio. I was a Chemical Engineer specializing in Process Engineering. I took a few years off when my kids were born and went back to school for IT (more flexible hours). I finished my professional career as a Java Programmer, where the process engineering mindset was very useful. You make me smile thinking that I have a "Fan Club" LOL
You are the best! I enjoy your tutorials and look forward to them. Thank you SO VERY much for all the extra you put in it helps so much!Take care my friend!
I am glad to be back. My life is so full, it is getting harder and harder to get these videos out, but it is so nice to hear that you miss me. That will serve as inspiration to keep working on these.
I love all of these. This one got me though. This is the first time I was dizzy, from looking at an image. I love this. It's on my list. You are an inspiration and your quilt blocks are amazing.
Check out her website to see her award winning optical illusion quilt, it's two concentric circles made out of squares, and the illusion makes them look spiraly! It was all hand quilted too.
I am so glad to know that you appreciate the construction details. I know it is longer than my usual videos, but I though it was important. It is reassuring to know that you liked it. Thanks!
Hi Brita, I love this quilt and how you "take the time" to explain it. You take what looks impossible and and explain it for every quilter to make. 👏👏👏 Thank you. I have one question. I would be making it for a king size bed. If I start with a bigger 4 patch (maybe 5x5 blocks or 6x6 blocks to start the 4 patch), will I loose the illusion? Again Thank you. Happy Quilting. ❤❤❤
It's really hard to say. The larger the blocks, the further you have to be from the quilt to see the illusion. I am pretty sure that you could go up to a 4" starting block, but I just don't know about bigger blocks. Here is the chart of starting block and cutting instructions: questioningquilter.com/chart Sorry I couldn't be more help. If you make the quilt, I would love to see how it comes out. Brita brita@questioningquilter.com
Thank you for demonstrating how to open that center seam. I had seen it described a time or two and it made no sense to me. Why would you cut open a seam? Thanks for a wonderful pattern.
LOL. I never know what I am going to come up with either. 🤣Sometimes I have an idea, and when I get around to the video, it has changed into something completely different. Thanks so much for being here.
I don't think I can sew and quilt a quilt like that. It makes me dizzy just to look at it. However, making it all scrappy should work for me. Your quilt looks a lot like OP Art to me.
I am glad to hear that you like the scrappy version. I love when people start with one of my patterns and make it even better. I would love to see your scrappy version. I had to look up OP Art, and you are exactly right. Thanks so much for pointing that out!
Question & a statement…. STATEMENT…I love your videos and how you show different possibilities of layouts and colors!! I check monthly for your videos and glad to see you post again!!❤️💙💛💚 QUESTION… I’m guessing that if I wanted to make bigger blocks that to cut the four patch…that the measurement is 1/3 of the size of the four patch? (Example…finished 4 patch is 9”…cut 1.5 inches from center?)
I am so happy that you like the quilts. I was getting one out a month, but I just couldn't keep it up. I am so glad that you waited for me. ANSWER: You are exactly right about the math. I have done all the work for you and have a chart with all the cutting sizes on my website: questioningquilter.com/chart/ This shows the starting size of the squares, the size of the 4-Patch and how far from the center to cut, and the size of the final block. You can also use this chart for the Disappearing Hourglass and Disappearing Pinwheel quilts. In those cases, the first column is the size of the Half Square Triangle block. Note: If you decide to make this quilt with much bigger blocks, be aware that you have to make a lot of blocks and be a little distance away to get the optical illusion. If you make the blocks too big, you might not be able to get far enough away to see the illusion.
THIS IS SO COOL! I have been wanting to make a red and white quilt for my son (school colors) and have lots of different reds in my stash. I know your quilt only used the same two colors, but I’m wondering if you would still get the optical illusion if you used a variety of the same color. In other words, if I used all the same white but different reds where you had blue would it still look as good? Thanks for posting this.
I think that if all the reds were similar and randomly placed in the quilt it will look good. What I mean by similar is that they should all be between medium light and medium dark. I would avoid bright pinks or reds that go too far into the purple or orange range. I would love to see it when it is done. brita@questioningquilter.com
You are Brilliant!!! Have a class with you in October -- I.can.not.wait!! I figured you were an engineer, I'm married to one of those and I know the traits. Stay Well yourself :)
There is no reason that you couldn't press the seams open. I, personally, have better luck making the points line up when the seams are nested. Thanks so much for purchasing the pattern. Because of an issue with the coupon, I issued a $1 refund to your card for the amount of the coupon. You have my email address (brita@questioningquilter.com) and I want you to feel free to contact me if you have any more questions about the pattern or anything else.
I haven't printed the pattern yet. I ran out of ink. I would =like to find or purchase the fabric for this 2 color quilt. my math skills aren't very good but if you could be so kind and let me know how much color fabric and how much white fabric I need I would certainly appreciate it. Thank you.
That would depend on how big of a quilt you want to make. You would need anywhere from 1 1/4" yards each to 4 1/8" yards each depending on the size. The pattern is a .pdf so you can just open it to read in your computer to see the fabric requirements for the different sized quilts. If you still are having difficulties, you can email me at: brita@questioningquilter.com.
I am so sorry about that. The coupon has been fixed and is working now. I sent a refund for the coupon amount to the people who purchased the pattern while it was an issue. If you haven't already, please try again. Thank you so much for alerting me.
Just tried three times to subscribe to your newsletter, but I kept getting a message that the verification that I am not a robot has failed. I tried it once with doing the verification before my email address and twice with putting my email address in before I did the verification.
I just checked my email and I got three notifications from you that I am subscribe to your newsletter so I guess it went through even without the robot verification.
I'm sorry but this quilt pattern doesn't agree with my health, so i won't be watching your tutorial this time. I usually love your posts but this majes my head spin so much i can't look at it never mind working on it.
Sorry that this quilt isn't for you. Thanks for letting me know. I will keep that in mind for future videos. Hopefully, you will like the next one better. Brita
