Best objective evaluation of ONR on the net. Great work!

That was a great video actually showing whats happening to the BRS. I didn‘t believe, it would release the dirt this well combined with ONR. It would have been even better, if you showed a close-up of the rubbing action, so we could watch the dirt being released and falling to the bottom of the bucket. Great job!

Great test, really shows that ONR and the BRS gives you a clean sleet after every dunk. Also, the solution looks really clean afterwards. Could you maybe show if the BRS scratches polished paint? Or maybe; what it takes to scratch paint with it?

Good work! And a relief -- I bought the ONR and BRS based on the how-to videos. I was just about to start washing and thought I'd take another look. I thought this video would disappoint me, but I"m relieved, thanks.

I just used ONR and the BRS for the first time the other day and I gotta say that I was impressed with the results. My truck was full of pollen and dirt and hadn't been washed in about 3 weeks. Came out great! I was a bit skeptical at first with the sponge but after the wash I was sold. Good video!
@BN99239
@BN99239 2 года назад
Yes, this shows that the sponge does release most dirt, but you should do the same thing with cheaper sponges, wash mitts and microfiber towels too. I think it looks clean in your video because with just that 1 side of the truck, it's not that bad to begin with, and it's a new sponge as well. I'm intrigued if the other products I mentioned would also clean off well using the grit guard. The problem for me is that the cuts in the sponge actually helps trap dirt at all, that's what I'm concerned about. I'm not really concerned with how well it cleans up after because that's all due to how dirty the surface was to begin with and how hard you rubbed it against the grit guard after to remove the dirt. What I'm concerned with is while using the sponge, are the cuts on the sponge actually trapping the dirt or am I just rubbing my car with the dirt that is currently on the sponge?

Those of us who take advantage of Optimum synergy already knew what the results of this test would be. Dr. G has done these tests under a microscope. It has never been filmed because he is like a mad scientist that doesn't let anyone in his lab. 😁

Fantastic work! I was on the fence for the Big Red Sponge. One thing I was thinking about, what would the results of the sponge look like under the microscope if you continued to wash the truck? Meaning you gave a microscope result after one panel. But inspecting the sponge after repeating the process with the other panels of the truck and checking the results to see if the sponge continues to release the dirt, if the grit guard is continuing to keep the dirt getting sucked back into the sponge, etc. It would be interesting to see those more advanced results. But again, great work on the video, keep it up!

If you've seen my pressure washer mitt washing video you can see a lot of different washing mitts/sponges under a microscope. What I've seen is that microfiber are really bad at releasing contaminants (this is what they are designed to do) and sponges that are like the BRS or the yellow sponge I tested are very good at releasing things. In these sponges there are no fibers to tangle around contaminants to they release in water much better. As you would continue to use them, things that are typically inorganic or "soft" would be likely to stick inside the sponge potentially. However these things are also less likely to scratch than hard contaminants which would release. If I had to choose between a sponge or a microfiber to do a whole vehicle I would absolutely use a sponge like the BRS although the "scrubbing" ability to remove more embedded contaminants is not as good. Every tool has a place and time.

Your channel is actually incredible. Thank you for the level of detail you look at it. Something I feel has not been touched on well is a simple video on how to just "every day" wash an actually dirtyish (Ie... after driving for a week or two) car - I would love to see your approach!
@SourceGarage
@SourceGarage 4 года назад
Thanks for the compliments. My approach wold vary depending on the protection on the car. The lightest forms of cleaning on a well protected/lightly dirtied car would be a rinseless wash with the big red sponge/multiple microfiber or a foam cannon soap and rinse. From there I would move to a multi mitt wash if the car was actually dirt enough to need scrubbing to remove contaminants with probably 6-10 mitts in total.

Great video! Just discovered your channel. It’s nice to see the actual results under the microscope. Most people just guess at what they think happens, or repeat the marketing claims without verifying. Since BRS works so well, I’m curious why you seem to prefer the microfiber mitts? I saw your mitt video as well. It seems the BRS or now the UBS would work well for lightly soiled cars, or cars that have been pre-washed with a foam cannon + pressure rinse before the contact wash. That should cover the majority of the cases, yeah? Thanks for the excellent demo

My issue with the brs wasn't it's ability to release dirt but rather pick it all up. Every time I'd use it, I'd go back to dry and my towel would always have quite a bit of dirt. This would be after an initial spray down with pressure washer and pre-treat of onr.
@SourceGarage
@SourceGarage 5 лет назад
The BRS is not for use on heavily soiled or infrequently cleaned vehicles. It is not good at scrubbing contaminants off or removing anything embedded. It really is just for rinseless washes for light maintenance.
@motiOn732
@motiOn732 5 лет назад
@@SourceGarage That's what I'd consider using it for, if anything, but absolutely not how it's been advertised by Yvan at Optimum and all the guys at TRC. They preach it can be used on heavily soiled vehicles. Numerous videos of them doing so as well
@Sherukka
@Sherukka 5 лет назад
I noticed that using the sponge too wet, it didn't pick up the dirt, especially important when pre-spraying ONR on the panels before washing. If I rinse with pressure washer I can't think of a reason to pre-spray ONR anymore. I've got 2 paint corrected vehicles as daily drivers.
@jeffkim1271
@jeffkim1271 5 лет назад
A good way to use ONR is to get an IK multi sprayer or a spray bottle and pre soak the section you are cleaning. A lot of dirt will lift and get encapsulated in the ONR solution so when you wipe with the sponge, it cleans much easier.
@motiOn732
@motiOn732 5 лет назад
@@jeffkim1271 Always do that with ONR regardless of how i'm washing (mitt, towels)

You try Opti coat no rinse yet? Btw I almost always throw 2-3 MF towels into the bucket. I follow up the BRS With a wipe with the towel. Opti describes the process as the BRS “applying” ONR. Which means the drying towel is going to pick up any dirt left on the car. The 2nd pass with the towel picks up anything the sponge missed... therefore my drying towels stay clean. I also use 2-3 Of the rag Companies FTW drying/aid towels for drying. I hate having to clean larger drying towels. The FTW are thinner, easier to handle and wash up nicely.

Hello, nice breakdown on the BRS and ONR. Question, if you did a pre-treat with ONR and let it soak in a little before using the BRS do you think the results of the sponge would be better? I am trying to decide if I was to use BRS or a microfiber mitt.

They're commonly used in professional kitchens so I would guess a commerical kitchen supply store would have them. They'd definitely have square ones but if you want to use a grit guard, you'll need a round one. Amazon has some of both shapes. Search "polycarbonate container" or "round polycarbonate container" and include 12 quarts or whatever size you want.

Thanks for the video! So we know as far as cleaning the sponge, that’s not a problem. But maybe next time we can also get a close look at a before and after of the part of the car you’re cleaning as well? See if there were any scratches and how the sponge and media itself cleaned the vehicle? Maybe get one of those pen lights and see if there was a difference across a panel?
@SourceGarage
@SourceGarage 5 лет назад
I am working on finding a good media to demonstrate that on. I need to get a panel and polish it perfectly and then demonstrate how dirt in mitts/sponges can scratch. The mitts/sponge itself won't ever scratch. They are not hard enough.

How would the sponge look like in your microscope after completely washing the entire car? I am thinking that you may see more trapped dirt(?)
@SourceGarage
@SourceGarage 4 года назад
I would hope not to see too much "dirt" since the ONR should work to encapsulate and carry that off the sponge, but I would certainly expect more organic or tar like matter that the ONR can't break down or carry away as easily. Things like grass or tar chunks that get embedded in the sponge would be likely.
