Opus 88 Demonstrator Review 

I own the basic version of this pen that I bought used shortly after watching your review of the Koloro. I wasn't very impressed with the pen at first, as the ink would leak into the threads of the blind cap. It would then... eventually... leak out of the contact point between the blind cap and the main body of the pen any time I unscrewed it to release the shut off valve. I reached out to Opus 88 with an email and some pictures and they simply asked me for my address and the nib size that I would like. Less than a week later I had a brand new pen that had some obvious upgrades to keep me from having the same issue again. I must've had an old version in the line and they upgraded me to the new model completely free of charge. I was blown away by the customer service and highly suggest picking any of their pens up if you're considering one.

My favorite number is 11 too! I love Stilo&Stile - insanely fast shipping, amazing customer service and reasonable prices. My Opus 88 Demonstrator is one of my favor pens. Mine is filled with Iroshizuku Yama-budo! Beautiful!

It would be interesting to calculate the percentage of JoWo nibs among the reviews of various pen reviewers during the last years.

11 is my favorite number also!! i liked the aesthetics when i was little, but as i got older this number just appears to me everywhere. If i had a choice of numbers, like you i would have tried for the 11 first, then would have tried for 111. if neither were available then i woud have gone for any double digit like you did because "factor of 11". :) Thank you for the review David.

Beautiful pen! If I had to choose a number I would choose. 133. It was my Boot Camp company number and as such, was a number that helped change the direction of my life for the better.

Another great review! Did you notice how the ink feathered a little at the end of the writing sample in particular where it went down heavily on the verticals testing line variation?

I really like the Demonstrator colorway styles for Opus 88: I am less of a fan of the Visconti Demonstrator colorways but it is really cool to see another example of how it could be done.

If I had a choice between 80 and 160, I think I would go with 124. The reason is obscure to many, but it was my draft lottery number (I was not called as it was the waning days of the war in Vietnam and I don't believe many from my year were actually drafted). I will be anxious to see your review of the Conklin Mark Twain crescent-filler! That is on my list of "when I get the money."

Colours are a bonus on this pen. The Conklin Mark Twain gun metal crescent filler is the heaviest pen I have at 88 grams. Mine came with a fine nib which I will probably change for a medium.

I’ve never thought of you as a merchandiser. But I have placed my order just now. I am a busy pen using physician that has carried a O88 Omar demonstrator in B filled with Zhivago for over a year. Weekly filling - never dries out. An easy but appreciated sell. Many thanks!!

I would choose 88 since I was born on August 8 which was one of the main reason I bought two opus models the Picnic Viola and Phantasia Brown since they litterly have my Birthdate printed on it.

The Opus 88 Koloro or Jazz will be my next pen!

I am fairly new to this hobby. How would you consider an EF nib on this pen compared with a Pilot EF? Would you get a fairly similar line or the opus 88 ef would be thicker? Thanks a lot

Hi! It's said a fountaion pen's nib, particularly a gold one, forms depending the user's handwriting and foece he/she applies on the pen by his hand. It's advised not to lend a FP to someone else. I have seen so many ads for FPs that tested by a writer and is placed for sale. Tragedically, when someone intends to test a new pen, he/she puts pressure on the pen in different ways seeing line variation and springiness. Considering all above, do you see it a wise purchase to buy a pen that has been tested by someone before?

I really want one but at the same time - I wished it'd post. Though a "large pen" it's body is about as long as that of a twsbi eco. I have huge hands so I post mine often. But I really do want one.

I know that on some Opus 88 models you can remove the clip by unscrewing the finial. Is that the case with this one also?

Too many rotations to remove the cap is why I have sold on the two Opus 88s that I had in the past. This one has even more. I don't get it -- there doesn't seem to be any reason for it, and surely they have had feedback about that, they just don't seem to care. Beyond that, the main thing the pens have going for them is large ink capacity, not so important to me. As for my preferred number, it wouldn't be 88 due to the sad associations with neo-nazis (due to H being the 8th letter of the alphabet).

You know, for some people the number 88 is a little controversial. Since the eighth letter of the alphabet is H, 88 stands for HH, which stands for Heil H*tler. Just saying.
