Is parallelism 2x the number of physical or logical CPU cores?

Hi, For x86-64 platforms (Linux, Windows etc) you should use 2 x the amount of physical cores. Hyperthreaded cores doesn't count in this context. For other platforms like SPARC Solaris and AIX it gets a little more problematic due to the virtualisation nature of the platform. In that case, you need to know you hardware to figure out how to know the number of underlying physical cores. Regards, Daniel

One query on this , why always using a par file is recommended, I often find using the .sh file more convenient in case of large exports like full database ,large schemas etc. Please advise on this . Thanks for these videos really helpful for dbas Best regards.

Hi Mayur, Thanks for your nice feedback. Much appreciated. The reason why we recommend to use a par file is because we find it easier. Some times you have really a lot of parameters and putting them on the command line will result in a very long command. Also, you might have difficulties getting the right characters escaped correctly. And finally, if you need to start a support case or interact with other people about your command, we find it easier if everything is in a par file. Having said that - command line is fully supported and it works - so if you prefer one long command line, feel free to do that. Regards, Daniel
