One little point of criticism - all sound examples sport doubled guitars. You should have added the "single tracked" sounds for better comparison to an "ordinary" playing situation. And the Micro Terror would also have deserved to be boosted.

So, all other things being equal, what’s your go-to citrus-flavored amp among the 15-20watt heads for a heavier sound to layer in among, say, other Mesa and Diezel-type tones? I’m a huge fan of multi-amp setups, and I’m always looking for low-wattage (ie, neighbor-friendly) tonal options 😁I find your informed insight to be a valuable resource - Thanks for all the info!

1. TH30 because it has the most definition to me. 2. Dark Terror, because even though it is a little less defined to me, it still suits every genre. 3. Rockerverb 50, because it has the classic sound Orange sound, and is still versatile. Honorable mention: Micro Dark, because I have one and it sounds pretty clear. But it doesn’t have the fullness “umf” that it’s bigger all tube brothers have.

@daw162
@daw162 2 года назад
It's made in England, too, which probably has more to do with it. Most of the other amp back panels that I can find for the less expensive orange amps say "made in PRC" I guess their marketing department figured out that some people won't immediately recognize that as CHINA. (I have no problem with the latter, though - nobody's making tube heads full tube high wattage heads for
@Dakotako
@Dakotako 2 года назад
@@daw162 Now I have no problem craping on the commie, organ harvesting, shit land that is China, but a good bit of it is the wattage. The headroom really comes through in the recordings. Also, I believe all of the amps except the rockerverb use el84 tubes and the rockerverb uses el34; I've run el84 yellow jackets in 6l6 and el34 amps and you really get a big tone difference(still could just be that decreased headroom from lower wattage tubes).

A hell of a job! Thanks a lot! I'm playing my trusted RV MKI 50 head with 4x6V6 now for at least 10 years and never looked back. The four gainstages on the drivechannel provide many different tones. I experimented with preamptubes for the clean channel which sits somewhere between a Vox and a Fender. It's chimey and has quite some headroom for bigger venues. The OR15 has the same sort of od-structure as the RV. But in fact I liked most of the demo'd amps. I'm just not to keen on the Dark-versions. But that's personal.

Camera pans to each amp, light on and cable in. No difference to me. Absolutely none. The sound track recorded is really good and the playing is great. Never been disappointed with this channel. The “shape” knob seems to work like the “contour” knob on my old transistor amp (Marshall MG30). Since that one was positioned in between the bass and treble knob, though, it made me assume I preferred a high-mids sound, rather than a scooped low-mids sound. This led me to dial the ENGL Invader in exactly the wrong way when I first tried it out. Then again, from all the demos of the Invader I’ve heard here on RU-vid (Mk I and MkII), I found neither particularly impressive - at least considering the price. Now they no longer seem to be available anyway. Looks like I’m not the only one who never really liked their sound - even though I wanted to (given the four independent EQs for each channel).

Very cool video. I assume these were re-amped tracks, as the playing sounds identical between amps. Anyway, I listened super close and for crunch, the TH30 and RV50 had that 3D enveloping tone. The AD30 nailed the clean and had some noticeable chime on the crunch. For high gain, I would go Tiny Terror, which sounded similar to the Root and Dual Terror. Rocker 15 and RV50 and even the OR15 were nice for high gain as well and sounded really similar. I would not go with the AD30, TH30, or Dark for high gain unless you were doing super dark sludge, and I wouldn’t go with the Tiny Dark (whatever the last amp was) for any of the tones.

fantastic demo! I'm really impressed at how much time and effort you invest into this. I'm ashamed to say it, but it would have been sooo cool to have the new Super Crush in that Comparison.... oh, now I did say it....

@@SonicDriveStudio if you get your hands on one, it would be great to see a comparison between it and your Rockerverb as there are no good comparisons on RU-vid between the CR120/SC100 and RV50/100. Great video as always!!

Actually, Hunter on Agufish compared the SC100 and the Rockerverb...but we need more than one comparison!! As always Jon, killer comparison!! I think the TH-30 is gonna be it for me until I can snag a Dual Dark 100

15:03 Now you all know why the Tiny Terror was that popular. :-) It has that Orange chunk but with a little bit more transparency.
