Егор Сидоров Proud owner of a Micro Dark Terror and Dark Terror. Try any of the newer Orange amp models out sometime at a music store. You won’t believe your ears. A few years ago I wouldn’t have dreamed of plugging into anything Orange, but listening to the audio in videos just like this one changed my mind and eventually peaked my curiosity until I tried a few different ones for myself and eventually purchased 2 different Orange amps.

I recently bought this amp and I am so satisfied with its versatility. Some of the best gain tones I've ever heard (classic rock to metal) and the cleans are so good I can even play Gilmour through it. Underrated? Yes!

@@73prd really really depends on cab size and room, with a 4/12 and a boost pedal, I'd say for a small club you should be good, but anything larger I would suggest mic-ing it

@@MultiStar84 I've had this for a few months now, I've played with my band running it into a 2 by 12 and it definetly holds up, and has some amazing tones. I think you can get away with gigging with this thing into a 1 by 12. I got it used, around 350$, mint condition.

This is the amp that got me into Orange in the first place. It's not underrated - it's rated highly for good reason. Nice demo. When I couldn't get this amp I got the Jim Root Terror which is one up thanks to its 3 band EQ.

Great amp. I recorded an album with it through a Palmer PDI 03 load box. Outstanding sound ! Used the Jim Root Terror for the solos. So simple and the results are fantastic.

Up until now I’ve always discounted or sometimes even scoffed Orange amps as “wannabe hipster” or “overpriced vintage” garbage. I’ve watched several videos on the different Orange amp models, including this one, and even tried out a few. My mind was completely changed. Fast forward to today- I ended up with a Dark Terror and Micro Dark Terror. I was not disappointed. Even a more affordable amp model like the Tiny Terror, Micro Dark Terror, or the solid state Orange Crush offer such a huge, rich, vintage and creamy sound that pushes a ton of air. While I haven’t researched or played every model, the ones that I have are incredibly versatile and put out a lot of bass and volume. In the past I had to dial in and fidget with the tone knobs and even the volume to really find every amp’s “sweet spot”. With this amp it’s not hard to find it’s “sweet spots”, as it’s sounds and responds great at just about any volume or tone setting or combination. A great example of a huge punch and amazing sound quality out of something that looks like a tiny metal lunchbox. Don’t let it’s aesthetics or the “overrated hype” fool you. Play one for yourself and you might just become a believer too.

I want to get POST / ATMOSPHERIC METAL tones (Cult of Luna, mainly). Will this help me achieve something similar, or maybe the less expensive micro dark terror one? What amp would be fit for this?

Sorry mate, i saw this comment the other day but enjoyed listening to Cult of Luna so much I forgot to reply 👍. I'd say it'd be a good fit. The Dark Terror is a great amp and miles ahead of the micro dark (which is good for the money) but doesn't compare to the DT.

Might be a dumb question but what does putting the piece of foam above the nut do? Ive seen bassist put one near the bridge to cut out unwanted noise, same concept here?

Yeah same thing. I find with high gain you get a big ringing if you don't dampen behind the bridge on a tune-o-matic and above the nut 👍

Didn’t reduce the volume on the guitar at all. It has a huge range of gain so can go from crystal clear cleans to monster high gain. It sounds great for clean/edge of breakup stuff at home volumes as you mentioned in the other post 👍

Do Terrors have a foot switch option for clean to dirty. Or do you have to do it by hand. I know it has a looper for petals. But I’m talking about using the amps gain.

Naa One channel amps, so needs to be manual. The Rocker Terror + Brent Hinds Terror + Dual Terror have 2 channels though 👍

Toby's Guitar Gear Demos Is it possible to run two heads into one cab. Like use the Dark terror for distortion, then use a Marshall head for clean? Like use a A/B box or something? Iv seen ppl using two heads with one cab. And I’m guessing that’s kinda what they are doing.

You can use a Radial Headbone to do it through the same speakers. Alternatively you can use a 2x12 / 4x12 that can be ran in stereo - Then have one amp plugged into one speaker and the second amp into the other speaker 👍

How would you compare dt15 and or15/jr4 volume wise? I had jr#4, currently have dt15 and have strange feeleing that jr#4 was significantly louder.

I remember the Jim Root was really loud similar to the PRS MT15. I think the OR15 is maybe slightly louder than the DT and not quite as loud as the Jim Root, although I can't say for sure 👍

15watts down to 7watts is a small(3db) change. Instead of half power @7watts knocking it down to 3 or 2 or better still, 1watt(s) would be better. I bet one could design it to have 1/2watt power and drive the speaker directly from the preamp(s) tube instead of the power transistors with only a small impedance matching transformer. Any tinkerers willing to help

Naa it's a single channel amp. If you want the dark sound with 2 channels go for a TH30 👍

With a mic definitely. For cleans at band levels without a mic, it's not do-able unless you like them breaking up. TH30 sounds very similar and can hit band levels 👍

I really like it edge of breakup with the shape set a little to the right, it's a little bit vocy. Depends on your tastes though 👍

Yeah really loud overdriven. Only would ever be an issue if you wanted crystal clear cleans at gig volumes 👍

TE-30 is one of my favourite guitars. They've changed it a little since I got mine back in 2015. Now has a thinner neck and I'm guessing the pickups are different. The stock bridge pickup was awful but the neck pickup was very good. I put a little 59r pickup in the bridge and it sounds great 👍

Pretty similar maybe a little louder, not enough to play clean with a drummer, unless you like your cleans gritty 👍

What does he have on his guitars above the nut and what does it do? Something with sustain or feedback?

It's a piece of foam to stop the strings above the nut ringing. Makes a massive difference with high gain 👍

Hey, I'm really interested in those Harley Benton guitars. With new pickups do they hold their own against say, Mexican/Japanese Fenders and Epiphones?

I love the HB guitars. Be aware that you may need to do some basic work on them (adjusting truss rod and bridge height). They actually come with great pickups, it's only the Tele bridge which i changed as I wanted a humbucker👍I have 5 HB's for the same price as a low end american fender.
