Suuuuper démo ! L’une des meilleures de cet ampli de fou ! 😅 Je n’ai pas le OR120 mais son petit frère le or15 et franchement un super super ampli ! Merci pour la vidéo ✌️
Ok - long ass comment, but worth reading coming from someone who grew up playing OR120's - unfortunately this demo doesn't do this amp justice. You've got the FAC far left on full and the bass knob dimed - it's a farty, flubby mess. Keep that FAC in position 2 or 3 to tighten up the low end and deliver that rich, tight grind these amps are known for. Also, these amps have a Baxandall EQ, which means the more you crank the bsss and treble, the less midrange you have. Keep them around noon and dial in your low and high end with the FAC and HF Drive, but don't max them out - (as I said, positions 2 or 3 on the FAC is PLENTY), then you'll truly unleash this amp. These amps have become a stoner rock caricature because people don't know how to work the EQ. Any amp is capable of the mid scooped mush shown here if you max everything but the mids.
The light crunch on the tele is the Orange tone I’ve always imagined it to sound like. I think the AD30 gets close. I’d like to see an OR50 mkII with an FAC control to tighten the low end.
+Nathan Ladd Thanks Nathan! Yes this technology is really amazing. We were also skeptical the first time we've heard about it. In our latest released video we've made a AB comparison between a mic'ed cabinet and the impulse response of the same cabinet. This is pretty interesting...
+Nathan Ladd and for the cab simulation part, you should check out our last video which compare a mic sound recording vs using a torpedo live. I think you won't be skeptical then 😀
Is it possible at all to manipulate the master volume to achieve reasonable volume levels in a home? Or is it a silly expectation given its 120 watt rating?
Hey guys, great video ! Question for you. You maxed out the volume with the torpedo live. Aren't you guys playing with fire a bit there ? I was under the impression that the live was rated at 100w max and that it was not recommended to max out an amp that's 100w or higher. Merci beaucoup !
2 Guys 1 Amp c'est ce que j'avais cru comprendre. Faut croire que je suis plus craintif que vous avec mon od120 !!! Je crois tout de meme acheter un torpedo live, surtout par curiosite. Merci a vous !
Hey guys, I just picked up one of these amps. Sounds great, I was just wondering if you also found the taper on your master volume control to be a bit weird. Seems like most of the range on mine is between 7-9.
Cheers! At first I thought the amp was broken but it goes from living room to stage on like the last 25% of the volume control. Just wondering if this is part of the design or if I just have a weirdo.
May I ask a question guys! I was wondering did you have any problem with the load box of the torpedo live when you cranked the OR120? I am asking because it is stated on the two notes website that the maximum load the Torpedo live can handle is 100 watts. Didn't the 120 watts of the OR120 cause any problems? I would appreciate your feedback. You see I am interested in buying a torpedo live and I was wondering if it can handle an Orange rockerverb 100 watt on a live setting (which I like having cranked most of the time).
Hi! We cranked it during a very short time and it caused no problem... Of course I would not recommend that for an intensive use... It would definitely damage the internal transformer. I don't see any problem about using it with your Rockerverb... It will handle it. 👍 If you intend to use a more powerful amp you can also go for the Torpedo Studio... more expensive but it has more features and it takes 150 watts. Thanks and don't forget to subscribe!! 🤘
+2 Guys 1 Amp even if it is not recommended, the torpedo will self protect in case of overheating. It will just stop working in case of too much power for too long time. It will just need to cool down for some minutes before it can be used again.
Thank you for the feedback guys! I guess it would be absolutely safe to run the rockerverb 100 in the 50 watt setting into a torpedo live, for say... a 2 hours live. Wouldn't it?
+Myself6M of course it will be ok! And even in 100w mode because I don’t see any reason to fully crank an amp like the rockerverb which features a nice master volume. Moreover running an amp full blast will lead to a fast wearing of the power tube.
I know! You are right. But nothing sounds like a cranked amp this attack, fatness and aggression to the tone that you get by driving hard the power tubes. I cannot get enough of it. I don't mind sacrificing a couple of tubes for that.
subscribing because I like the production values and the amps, plus you two seem cool, but every single one of your videos comes across as INCREDIBLY bright through my headphones (which are mid-level planars). I dunno, I watched the superbass video (possibly my very favorite circuit ever) and I've never heard one sound that bright/thin. I know the Torpedo stuff tends to suck some of the thickness out and I can live with that, but it was just way brighter than any I've ever heard in person. love the show otherwise.
+trashcanmagic I never listened to planar headphones, so I dont know the sound signature of this technology. I really don't know what to say, I would not say that our recording sounds perfect but it doesn't sound too bright with any of our monitoring devices. It's not easy to dial a tone which suits everyone's taste! Thank you for your support! Cheers
We video demoed a Marshall Super Bass here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4Vv1KGMBfwM.html . I think looking at both videos will give you a very good view on the differences between both amps. Choosing one or the others only depend on your taste and kind of music you play. What are you expecting from you amp?
I used to have the Orange Overdrive 120. It was a solid amp if you are just wanting to play guitar directly into an amp with nothing else. I found that it couldn't take pedals very well. It was better for just straight plug in. The overdrive on it is probably the warmest overdrive you will ever get out of an Orange amp. If you are like J Mascis and you never like for your guitar to have a truly clean sound than this amp is it. I also found that it was never truly clean because of the overdrive circuit. It's a great amp, it is possible to stage gain some fuzz pedals into it, but it's not the same as say a Marshall amp that is clipping the signal in post gain when you turn it up (the gain knob that is). The OR120 was different, it was very picky about any high gain going into it. I've only seen one other video where they were able to use vintage pedals with the OR120 and have it sound really good, but I think that was with an original and not the reissue. The one I had was a reissue.
+Sharky Eyes I think you are confusing with Orange CR120 which is solid state amp. All OVERDRIVE and OR120 are tube amps. Our Orange OR120 is a reissue and does take pedals (OD and Fuzz) very well!
No, I had a Orange OR120 90's reissue. I don't play solid state, I only play tube amps. I am very aware of what the amp could and could not do. Very similar to your video, I tried different guitars and different pedal combinations into OD120. Never had a problem with any of the guitars, but running pedals into it just sounded like shit. Some light modulation was no big deal, but anything heavier than some mild overdrive it became very fragile with sounding between distinct and muddy. The other thing I noticed was that it is supposed to be 120 watts, and it was not very loud for 120 watts. My Marshal is 100 watts and was twice as loud as the Orange OD120. So I would say if you are looking for volume than I would look at something else. The OD120 perfect for just plugging in and playing some classic rock stuff without having to worry about any kind of overdrive or fuzz pedals.
+Shaky Eyes sorry! I read "solid state" whereas you were talking about "solid amp". My mistake! Maybe it depends from amp to amp but my bandmate use a massive fuzz in front of his crunchy OR120 reissue and it does sound really good 😊
Ah, yeah, I meant that it was a very durable amp. It was definitely a great amp to rock out on. I tried putting a EHX big muff in front of it, a Red Witch Fuzz God in front of it, I also tried a Vintage Master Fuzz, Big Muff Wicker, Fuzz Face and a Boss Fuzz. It was just something about that overdrive circuit in the OD120 that just counteracted with the fuzz pedals, like it would never have good definition no matter how tame I made the fuzz pedal. So that kind of lead me to think that maybe it was the Reissue and that the original for some reason could take fuzz pedals better. The two main issues I saw with the OD120 was that it didn't really have a lot of volume and that I couldn't really overdrive or fuzz pedals into it effectively. A boost pedal or a compression pedal or delay was no problem. And it didn't matter if I was using single coil pick ups or humbuckers, that amp just sounded better with no additional gain. But the two great things I saw about it was that you could just plug into it and get a sweet overdrive sound, less headache to not have to hook any pedals up. Also it worked well with both bass and guitar in the capacity that you plugged directly into it, so I liked that about it too. I think you guys did a great video demonstrating what the amp sounds like between two different kinds of guitars.
+Deao Satori this our a/b comparison real mic vs impulse response: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3cC6xTFHAko.html . This is the full video showing how to capture an impulse response: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-foR4OZhlkf8.html . And here is a great video from Pete Thorn about impulse responses: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i770M9pM0_k.html . It should give you a great view about impulse responses for cabinet! We used klon centaur like as a boost but no treble booster! You tried?
