Heartwarming playful interaction between mother Emma and her daughter Hillda in this video of the Sumatran Orangutan family at Chester Zoo
Doting mother Emma is in a very playful mood as she and her daughter play quite rough with each other, 3 year old orangutan Hillda seems to enjoy the rough and tumble games played with her mom who even pulls off a hilarious head stand 1:03 during playtime between the adorable mom and baby daughter
It is common to see the young orangutans play in this manor but rarely the adult mothers, so this was a real treat to observe
Recorded in June 2024 this is current footage of the wonderful Sumatran Orangutan family at the world famous Zoo - Chester Zoo Hillda no longer has the wild and crazy hair she had as a baby, but will get thicker and longer as she matures like her sisters who have beautiful chestnut coloured thick hair
Sumatran Orangutans are Endangered
Sumatran Orangutans are an endangered species of Great Ape, threatened to the edge of extinction, due to the ongoing destruction of the Environment in their native homeland of The Indonesian Island of Sumatra. The destruction of their native forests is largely to make way for the planting of palm oil, which is used in the manufacture of many products in developed nations, such as food products and cleaning products.
Baby Orangutans at Chester Zoo
Chester Zoo is the only Zoo in the UK to House and Care for Sumatran Orangutans. They are part of the breeding program for this important and vulnerable species, ensuring there is a strong genic population in zoos and wildlife centres across the world, essential for the future survival of these magnificent animals.
These rare Sumatran Baby Orangutans are absolutely adorable and so much fun to watch, Young Sumatran Orangutans interact with each other and learn from the behaviours of other Orangutans in their Family group.
