The Indonesians have only themselves to blame. They know it’s wrong to have orangutan as pet but still they do it until they got caught.

Yes, I always think about it too, and these thoughts make it very scary. Poor animals, why do they suffer at the hands of knackers, why does the state not punish these people for their cruelty!

Many years ago in front of an Orangutan's place and watching the sadness and "giving up" feeling I stopped going to zoos as I did circus' with the animals made to do what is not natural to them all for human's enjoyment. With education more people understand. I agree with your thoughts on the people and their poverty - while still, the unawareness of the animals needs is difficult to accept. Still, more awareness is happening.

There is a price to freedom. Keeping the orangutan in that wooden cage is better than letting it loose in the wild. It has no survival skills growing up with humans. It is dependent on them to feed it. There are poachers out there who would sell these animals for a small fortune. These are not disgusting people.

Some are kept in zoos because they are endangered and it the best way to breed them and grow the population

The orangutan lived with them since it was a baby. It is dependent on them to feed the creature. Do you expect them to just release the animal as it grew older? It needs a mother to teach it proper survival skills. These people are not stupid, they just dont have the proper access to knowledge unlike you people. They feed the orangutan as well as they could. It hasnt died in their care during the years it has lived with the family has it? If they were greedy, they would have sold it in the black market. Indonesia has so many island and these organisation cant reach to these animals as quickly as they could. Imagine having an education and better living conditions than these people and yet has less humanity than the people who tried their best to take care of an orangutan by themselves. Shame on you people

What about orangutans kept in the Zoo's?if people keeping these animals as pets is illegal than undoubtedly keeping under confinement in Zoo's is also illegal.Rescuing only pets is actually snatching.Don't just point your fingers to poor people only.Hypocrite!!!

I find it disgusting....they have no issue having 10 kids while they lock this small intelligent animal up in a cage without any windows and torture him/her for two years. Thank god there are people that can go into these areas to help this primates from all of this suffering......
