The rise is a great bike, I rode one for a month and had fun with it as it was the first e-bike I rode for sometime. I decided to go with the full power Levo as it eats any trail, its a monster of a bike with a very quiet and refined motor, which I love it. Also the specialized customer Support is amazing. Cheers
I’ve had a Rise on demo for a couple of days, the M10. Rinsed the battery yesterday, 30 miles & 4,000 feet of climbing. 75% in Eco, the rest in Trail. I’m 164lbs and fit. Took it out at lunch today, 9 miles & 1,650 feet of climbing, all in Boost. Into the 2nd bar of battery.
Glad to finally see a review where someone is not afraid to mention 3rd party apps to reconfigure the motor. I used the ST Unlocker but I am sure there are other apps that do the same. Only complaint with my Rise M20 was factory tires were not aggressive enough.
75Nm on this bike feels like 90 on a 3rd Gen Levo due to its better power to weight. But you will drain the battery much faster at this setting. I noticed that setting it much higher than 75Nm there is barely a difference so I think 75Nm is the max the battery can handle. I have mine set at 65Nm which feels like a full powered EP8 on a 52lb bike. When you run the range extender (252wh), the bike will only draw power from the extender and won’t touch the main battery and that Range extender’s maximum Tq is 60Nm. Setting the bike at 75Nm, there is no discernible difference between 75 and 60 so the Range extender is the bottleneck. That said, if you crank up the settings to 10 on everything at 60Nm, you will easily hang with any full fat bike

My Rise was delivered with a standard EP8 (not RS). So I have the full 85nm tork. A lot Of fun!! I had the bike for a year now and have no issue with the battery. Full waranty due to the fact that the bike was delivered like this from a orbea dealer brand new. And they know about the motor mixup after I contacted them about it.
From what I've read the battery delivers less max current than other full fat batteries so even if you derestrict it does not give you 85nm and apparently does not feel too different to stock. Also many comments that when the battery gets lower there is a significant vibration from the motor perhaps as the battery drops it can't sustain the current. I would leave it alone or if in Europe set it to us locale to get 20mph instead of 15.5
i made mine a 160/170 mullet. rides great, and I can change it back to 140/150 in about 10 minutes (for the fork I use a Mezzer and I just enlarge the negative chamber so it takes no time). Most versatile ebike out there.
@@Trailjunkie62 For my daily rides the 29/29 is better, mostly because of the steeper STA uphill and the reduced travel makes it more fun on tame terrain. On rough long days or self-lifted park days, the mullet is a fantastic option. Something no one talks about is how the frame is pretty flexy because it is very light. It made me go from coil option to riding a DVO Topaz on the mullet setup because the shock itself needs to be part of what makes the frame rigid, and I find that it flexes more than I like with a coil shock (very small diameter rod). The bike itself doesn't feel radically different. It's still the same bike, bit with more travel and slacker HTA.
Having ridden the specialized sl I found the trail mode to be plenty of power, almost too much. I have not ridden this one but it looks amazing and would prefer range over excessive power. Gotta try it.
👍 Yep, you can hook to Garmin. There is also a light indicator when you hit 20% or you can also check an app. But at 36 pounds...you can also just pedal without motor.
yes, 100% agree, you can ride it just like a non e-bike, trips out often only 30% of the time with assist on, rest manual (depends on the terrain obviously)
Levo sl is a beautiful bike esp in the mat orange colour, oh my god I nearly paid up right then and there. But sadly the test ride, without ever riding an eMtb the power was disappointing. I’m simply not fit enough to make that work and for the money….rise wins. I still get the sl knocking on the back of my head wanting to come in though. And the brose motor issues didn’t help either

It would depend on so many factors. I personally love full fat bikes, the weight is beneficial for suspension performance and grip plus the battery power let’s you boost around more. Love boost. They are more of a handful though so you have to be a proficient rider to throw them around. The rise is more manageable and more adaptable if you are willing to change some parts. It feels more like a regular bike if that is what you are after. They both are fantastic. The Shimano system is more reliable but Specialized warranty is fast and they seem to stock parts.
So does de restriction hurt the battery… ? Supposed to be smaller more compact battery cells to give the light weight, but allegedly can’t discharge quick enough to give full power without damage or shortening the battery life. Anyone experienced this?
Hey man, great review! Quick question: right now I own a full-fat e-MTB, which I use both for hitting trails and dragging both of my kids on a Hurley trailer uphill to their kindergarten (no more Shotgun for us I'm afraid...). The total extra weight for the trailer with both kids on it is around 45-50kg (100 to 110lbs). Think the Ep8 would deliver enough power to drag them up the hill? Love the channel, guys - I run every purchase by you before I commit to it! ha. Thanks!
The detuned rise ep8 at the max power setting should be just fine for the ride to kindergarten with kiddos in the trailer. With the decrease in weight of the bike and the 60 NM ep8 it almost can hang with full fats...tune down your full fat boost mode to 75-80%, that would probably be an equal measure.
did you ever tow your kids with this bike? I have bought one, but not gotten it yet, and will be towing my son with it. Just wondering if you tested that, and what the battery life was like when you did. thanks

I am looking at the Hydro series bike. My choice is h15 vs m20. Do you think the extra 50% battery is worth the extra weight of the alloy? It's around 1.5kg heavier. 1kg on the frame, 500g on the battery. Is it getting too far away from lightweight? Thanks!
I think it depends on how you plan to use the bike the majority of the time and how much you want that “normal bike” feel while descending. It’s just a different feeling riding a 50 lb vs 40lb bike I would say. The 50 lb bike will have traction and high speed stability for days but take more rider input to man handle while the 40 lb bike will allow you to change direction and maneuver the bike a bit more but still have tons of traction compared to a normal bike. If the trade of is more power (not in your case), I would personally take the 50 lb bike to mash pedal and plunge laps, I dig full power, it’s so fun. If the trade off is battery capacity, I would really look at what battery capacity you need for 80 percent of your rides and make the choice that fits (use range extender for the outlying longer rides). If most your rides only need 350 Watts, lucky you, you can get a lighter bike! I really hope they make that battery an easy external change and offer capacity options in next iteration (both carbon and alloy frames), that would be incredible…choose your own adventure. Oh yeah, and unleash that motor to full 85 NM…
@@TheBikeDadsthanks. I only weight about 145, so this would also help me I think with the lower capacity? The m20 is 40lbs and the h15 is 44lbs though. The latter also has a fox 36 and float x (but I don't do jumps!) I think maybe carbon..
Give me full power of ep8 then it is the Rise because of weight and diversity of frame to be a trail or enduro bike. If that’s off the table, Levo. I’m drunk on the power as I tow the kids and love buzzing around full power boost.
Because it’s not that good a tower unless you unlock more torque. A single kid sub 120 lbs it works pretty good if you are in decent shape but nowhere near a full fat ebike for towing multiple kids. The Shimano ep8 also requires higher cadence which makes towing a little tougher compared to Brose or Bosch.
@@rogersmith1470 grab the ebike adapter for the macride and you should be good to go. Alternatively, the shotgun pro out of the box will work as well. We ride our ebikes with kids off road seats all the time, great fun!
@@TheBikeDads thanks for the quick reply sorry should have been more specific with my question , currently using macride mostly on flatish trails wondering if I’m looking to get into climbs with the little one would the orbea rise (h10 less expensive aluminum) be an sufficient upgrade or would I be better off with fulfill powdered emtb like a giant trance x? Looking to get a pair of em (one for wife) without being able to test ride them so any feedback is certainly appreciated
💯 you definitely don’t need 85 nm ,this bike will climb in trail mode no problem at all , I had the Orbea Wild fs and now I have the Rise it climbs just as good cos it’s so light , the only problem I have is the brakes they’re shit!! 😂
