Orbeez - Molten Metal vs Orbeez - Copper, Bronze, & Aluminum Cast in Orbeez - TheGrowingStack

I finally tried pouring metal into Orbeez. I've seen metal cast in Orbeez before, but i wanted to try my own style with them and see what they are all about. They make a mess, and are a pain to clean up doing what I was doing with them, but the end result was pretty cool. I melted some Aluminum, some Copper, and some Aluminum Bronze. I had fun making this video and casting metal with Orbeez, I hope you enjoy watching what I went through!

I had my first encounter with Orbeez. They are pretty fun, and even more of a big mess when casting with them, at least from my experience. They are a lot of fun to pour molten metal into. I hope you all enjoy the video! Let me know if you want to see me try something in particular or another metal cast. 👍

I think to obtain what you wanted you must first put in the orbeez in sand and on top of them the mask but you must only use little bit of orbeez so you still catch rest of mask. Thats what i think. Cool video. I also want to make casting with orbeez. Think you wont lose metal like with an anthill. Anyway

@@jimthomas777 cans are more of a pain to melt with the dross, crushing and storage. I recycle my cans to buy the propane for melts. Most casters melt them when they first start out to get an aluminum stash but after that look for other items made of aluminum to melt.

If you want the orbeez pattern on the front your best bet is to make a sealed mold. Aka make the pattern fill with orbeez then seal it and pour through hole. That way they dont just float about. Other than that the Aluminum and aluminum/bronze look like ant hill castings. Really cool

But can he press them in by hand and or with the other failed. pours mask? and is expansion a problem? If pressed in, will molten release orbeez . I'll check on line

I think the first two would have looked really cool encased in epoxy without spraying off the Orbeez.
@Atlantismonkey40
@Atlantismonkey40 2 года назад
I have done this with Obie’s. You have to make the mold same as if filling in with metal. Only first make the two part mold. Mold should have a larger opening. Fill with the orbit’s and pour metal quickly. Also remove orbit’s from the top, as to not have recent direct contact with water. Lastly, the mold should be box closed, the orbie’s will flash steam, causing warping. Good luck and wear a face shield when doing this.

Yeah the bronze “sculpture” ha! Is really cool. The aluminum one seems like if you wanted to you could paint it. Shit man…with that thing the ideas are endless huh? Lol… Hey bro…what if you used steel ball barrings or something that melts at a higher temp. For the effect your going for with the orbies? Idk if this would work either but what if you pushed each “ball” into the sand mold individually? Idk buddy I’m just throwing shit at the wall and maybe something will stick…ha! You know what you’re doing. Thanx for today’s therapy. Awesome as always

yeah those orbeez casts came out Very cool. Sorry about your masks....maybe try flipping the masks when setting up your sand cast? Just did my first copper melt a couple of days ago.....mistakes were made in abundance but 2 1/2(ish) hours later and I had 4 types of graphite molded shapes equaling just over 4 pounds so not a Complete loss....other than gas that is...lol....smh.

@Katzztar

I had to go back to see just how much of those orbeez there was... I didn't realize they filled that trash can. But dang that was a interesting sculpture you pulled out after the pour. "Now what to do with all that orbeez?" Which was my 2nd question after wondering "are the harmful to the enviroment?". Seems a google search gives some ideas of its usage. One suggestion is to mix with potting soil to help keep moisture in the soil: when dirt dries out, it would draw the moisture from the beads and next time the area is watered, the beads would absorb excess to hold until it's needed. (found on a site and I've not tried this so no idea if it really works.) Another is to add a scent to the water when hydrating them to use as scented beads, and use in decor.

You will be finding little plastic balls in your garage for decades. Find someone with an auger truck, like you set a light pole with,dig a deep hole and put one of the faces in it. In 10,000 the archeologist will be loosing thier minds trying to explain it.

Dig 8-12” deep trenches around the perimeter of your yard plants and fill with orbeez’s, cover with dirt. They will retain water near the roots and make healthy plants. Remaining orbeez can be left in sunshine while the water evaporates. Save for another day. Interesting video; do you pour aluminum into anthills too?

Very cool project. My understanding of how Orbeez work is that if you leave them in the sun (which I think you said you're in AZ, so definitely won't be a problem) they dry out and shrink back to their original small size. That would make it easier to clean up and get out of any future castings (although will probably take longer than power washing, less work and less messy). Cheers and thanks for the video!

Fantastic work, the wife used orbeez aka waterbeads çouple of years ago and we are still finding them, good news is keep them dry and they shrink back to original. Pity about the skulls but don't be tempted by closed molding them as suggested by others you will get a steam explosion. Fantastic work and thank you for making the video.

Thank you my friend. I had briefly thought about closing it up, but leaving a big vent hole, but I’m not sure even that would do what I was hoping for. And in the end, the possibly of a steam explosion turned me off altogether. I hope you and yours are doing fantastic.
