Glad to know I'm not the only "older" person loving good music lol Do you like Erasure as the synths, a good frontman & beautiful songs are common in both.
holy shit, you could not get better pitch perfect than that, drums perfect, singing perfect, keyboard perfect, you leave everyone miles behind for perfection
That's what happens when you actually had to have talent and practice to be in the music business. You worked your way up, so by the time you were able to headline, you were flawless (at least in the eyes of the audience). I look at rock bands today, and realize that bands that were considered not as musically talented in their day (Green Day, Offspring, Bangels, etc) blow today's bands out of the water simply because they have that experience, practice, and had a higher barrier of entry when they were coming up.
I was 15 years old when this song was out. No responsibilities , no bills, just a kid in an era where music was good and there was no hate like there is today. Good times.
Same with my youngest daughter born in 2008 ... I have LOTS OF new wave songs from the 80's on my iPhone ... I always play the playlist (including OMD If You Leave) when I drive her to her activities and she loves these songs.
i love when songs from the 80's are kept or tried to be kept the same sounding as it was in the 80's...this is pretty spot on. when the first synth hits, it caught me off guard...its breathtaking
j burggg agreed. There is a geat documentary about OMD on RU-vid. They explained they were reunited with their original analog tape reels which had all the individual instrument tracks to all their songs. They digitized them for safe keeping. And most importantly that allowed them to recreate their original hits faithfully with the new gear 👍
80's Where artists were really talented and can sing studio quality without auto tunes Where people live the moment NOT record the moment Where people vividly remember through their memory NOT electronic memory Where people get high on LIFE not ice, ecstasy or meth. Where people go to the music for the Music not alcohol or drugs.
I was 15 when this song came out. I finally got to see them in concert just 2 days ago in Missoula Montana. These guys were amazing and sound as good in 2019 as they did 30 years ago!
This song was voted as the song that best represented the 80s. For me, every word reminds me of a very painful loss when I was 26. She was my soul mate. Life took her away from me and all I have is the shell of a memory and this song. I miss her every day.
I was 16 when this came out. Epic track. The sound of the 80's. They still sound damn good. This is surprisingly amazing. Still got the voice - loved this. Thanks OMD
This live performance is great. I’ve loved this song ever since it was released, back when I was 12. I believed every word and shivered with every unexpected chord change. It’s beautiful in form and arrangement.
It isn't often that any band can deliver a live performance that stands up well to its own studio recording, but here we have one - and 25 years later, no less! Amazing. Just terrific.
Ultimate classic 80’s New Wave hit that’s still sounds great whenever it comes on. Blast this while driving & somehow it takes you back in time -temporality anyway. He still has the same energy & voice after all these years. Simply amazing!
Gracias OMD por esta obra de arte,me recuerda algunas épocas gloriosas de mi vida.......sonaba en todas las discos y bares de Buenos Aires por los 80'.......gracias por esta maravilla
i was 3 years when they released this song in 1981 and now I'm 43 years old and I still love this song and the band. Its brings back this great music and memories.... masterpiece....
Oh, My .. OMD, one of my favorite British bands during the late 80's. This song is such a classic . They sound so good . It’s like a great memory for moi. Never forget when I first saw them in concert when I was around 20 yrs old. They opened up for DEPECHE MODE. What a Special Night that was for me to experience : )
That's like walking past a framed lottery ticket in your nice home and saying stupid ticket.... This song is that lottery ticket... Be glad you wrote that song. After all I listen to it as I cut doughnuts on my golf cart screaming 80's forever
Me too ... age becomes irrelevant .. teenage idols remain ... always .. re-energised the joy of this song some 6yrs ago too .. for some strange reason too ..
Test For Victor I was born in 1999 and even growing up I never connected with modern music. Thankfully I discovered OMD and it led me to discover other great bands from that era, New Order, Depeche Mode, Human League, Ultravox. Just goes to show how well that music holds up!
If you leave my favourite of so many of your tracks to be honest you never did a bad hit 1980s till now 2020 listening in lockdown to amazing music stay safe omd everyone stay strong sending love from headway Nottingham UK well done guys xxx
Andy and Paul are the most unlikely yet loveable pop stars you could hope for. They truly are "the Beatles" of new wave. I would love to see them live!! Long live the 80's, unparalleled music. Talk talk, simple minds, new order, modern talking, psychedelic furs, talking heads, rosy music, reflex, FGTH, shriek back, style council, Paul young, nick kershaw
