I performed this with a large community sax ensemble last summer… love Glitter and Be Gay and loved the fact that it had a segment from the aria in the overture. Also I kinda had to tell the ensemble that what they are playing is supposed to be Cunegonde’s maniacal laughter … which I think they enjoyed

Just found your channel, these score studies are great. As a horn player that’s been playing for 13 years now, I’ve played almost all of the pieces that you’ve covered and it’s great to get a broader perspective of the piece than one gets from just playing their part. Thanks!

@@AndreyRubtsovRU this is the LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, it’s not my favorite orchestra for these type of things but it’s one of the cleaner recordings that isn’t at a tempo where the piece is falling apart constantly. Even Bernstein thought his tempo indication (150 bpm) was farcical, he revised it to 130 bpm and I honored the composers intent and went with a recording 1. With him conducting and 2. with the most up to date and definitive score.

I personally am not a fan of LSO for 80% of music. The brass is too ‘tinny’ and unbalanced, the strings to lethargic. But this recording most accurately reflects the composer intent and his final, most definitive version. Go back and listen to his own recordings of it with NYPO and it’s so fast it derails and it (to me) uncomfortable to listen to

I’m curious who would be the target audience for this video. As a pit musician myself (and, I think, for any serious or professional musician), it’s far too superficial and haphazard to be useful in any way, but yet I don’t really see casual RU-vid viewers getting much out of it either. And then I must add, you chose a poor recording with audible mistakes on top of it, so it’s not even good purely as a listening experience. Couldn’t you at least have chosen a recording led by Bernstein? I just don’t get it.

I'm sure the owner of this channel does these studies for his own enjoyment and learning, for one. I'd be surprised if this wasn't the case --- he has so many of them on this channel!

@@AnthonyOTooleMusic i love these videos! i learn so much :) i honestly thought the recording was altered in some way so that some parts would be more noticeable but i guess not. and even though most of the music theory in the vids are basic, interesting things are pointed out and if i want to do more analysis on my part, i can.

@@jackiebrot959 thanks for your comment and glad you enjoy them. I try to make these videos as universally enjoyable as I can, while understanding the majority of RU-vid users are age 13-25 so I have to speak to that level of musical understanding.
