Thank you very much. I try and avoid dividing them if possible as they then become rather ordinary. Large specimens require years to grow to that size. One Dendrobium speciosum that I've seen is in a cut down 44 gal drum and makes even my largest one look tiny. It requires a fork lift to move it.(rarely does it ever get moved) Cheers
... to whoever gave this a 'thumbs down', I'm not doing what I do to please you or anyone else. If you don't like it, tough shit ! I do it because I enjoy messing around with plants and I have never tried or intend to present myself as an 'expert'.
...oops... I've just acquired 3 new Dendrobium speciosums that are larger and I'm in the process of cleaning them up from years of sitting on a back shelf at a nursery. Wish me luck. 🤞 Cheers
Thank you. Since this repot in December 2020 it has shown me that it's happy by producing 8 nice flower spikes. I'll do a Den speciosum update soon as I already have 2 in flower. Stay tuned ! 👍😎
Good afternoon Dickson. My large speciosums are in coarse pinebark with a bit of large charcoal pieces. They're rather heavy and although I add pea gravel to my medium mix, (see my video on potting mix blends) more weight would make them even more awkward. I know someone who has a very large speciosum in a cut down plastic 44 gal drum and the rare times it gets moved, it's with a fork lift !
Yes I do, but I rarely mention the specific names as it isn't necessary for their cultivation. My 'Avril's Gold'(and others) are all cared for in the same way. I do have my favourite babies, but the larger specimens are a pure delight when in flower ! Cheers
G'day. May I suggest gently lifting it out of it's pot and checking it's roots. If they are soft and hollow feeling, then it's probably wet feet causing your problem. Since repotting, this one has started developing 10 flower spikes and more vertical roots.(leaf litter traps) Good luck.
@@MrNomads ... that may do the trick. They're very tolerant of temperature variations from nearly freezing to quite hot in summer. (2° -> 40°C) They will drop all their leaves if they're hit by a heavy frost and will take a few years to fully recover and intense heat can cook them = no recovering. 😫 Your new pine bark (I also add charcoal and gravel, but not for this one...maybe I should've? ) will improve the drainage. Cheers
Good morning. Thank you. I acquired this approx 2 years ago as a neglected weed infested plant. Extensive cleaning (scale) and weeding took a while. Now it's rewarding me with new flower spikes. I'll do an update when it starts to flower. Cheers
G'day. Have a squiz at my latest vid. 3 newly acquired Den speciosums and they make this one look small. I'm wondering how well they'll flower now that they'll get some TLC ? Cheers
