Matthew nothing ventured nothing gained. How would you know if you don't try. Good video. I haven't regretted buying a plant but I have been sorry when I haven't.
Closest orchid club near me is 70 kilometers (and I don't have a car, too far even with a car anyway) My orchid club is YT I have the whole world to pick and choose from 😁
@Helloplantlovers Hi I’m Ben from Bendigo, I am a orchid grower and I’m a beginner Cattleya breeder, I enjoy your videos, I learned a lot from you, please do a video on Brassavola appendiculata/cullata, Brassavola nodosa to Rhynchovola rhyncholaelia cattleyas species and hybrids care thank you ☺️
question,,, have u experimented with Tree fern fiber as a growing medium...?? I am told it's good stuff.... I ordered 30 litres on ebay and will try it... Bill
Well tree fern logs or slabs are great for growing orchids one - I have a video about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T-8_zpzP8rU.html But if you mean loose fibre than I'm not sure. It can get hydrophobic quite easily so you'd need to watch out for that. But good luck with it! I also have a video on my other channel about using the logs here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gFu8138939A.html
please note Tree Fern Fiber really likes micorrhiza ,,, so it could be a brilliant growing medium after innoculation of this symbiotic fungi,, I am going to try this,, Bill
Lucky guy ! Over here in the UK good plants (other than Phalaenopsis) are very hard to find, since that eejit Boris Johnson convinced a gullible population that Brexit would be a good idea ! 😢😢😢
Well Michael, I have to wonder when you say you are an amateur, looking at your huge nursery of plants behind you! I can’t imagine how you get round to them all 😊. Your videos teach me much, so informative 😊
Amazing new orchids Mathew🥰🙌💖I love them💞I have a native phaius flavus with beautiful fragrant yellow flowers in Spring, and it grows terrestrial with big bulbs and plicate large leaves. Thanks for the wonderful and interesting video Mathew🥳🤲💖
Glad to see a maxillaria cucullata. I have one and it's an easy, rewarding plant, that likes high light and tolerates heat. I keep mine inside in the Belgian winter, but I keep watering it. There are not so many videos on RU-vid featuring this plant, hope that you make one soon!
Such a good sale! I came home with fabulous things including epidendrum schweinfurthianum which I have very high hopes for. Thank you so much for all these videos you give me great confidence! I have to ask please - what is the silver leaved plant in the hanging basket behind your right shoulder? Im going nuts trying to ID it!
Ha! Well...that is actually Luzuriaga radicans that got FRIED in those hot winds a few weeks ago! It's a cool growing Chilean understory plant that does NOT like heat + dry + wind! I'm trying to revive it!
I have enjoyed your videos on miltonias. I purchased a plant almost a year ago. I need some help. It was planted in the middle of the pot and now is growing against the side of the pot. Is there a good time to repot this plant? I am new to orchids and need to learn the best care. Thankyou for your help.
Thanks for watching! Depends where you are in the world. In my neck of the woods I'd re-pot when the new growths have started to put out roots - spring. Good luck! (They are quite tough!)
A lot of them seem to have thin leaves. Would they be susceptible to pest infestation? Do you use any kind of spray or systemic solution? 🤔 I got the Maxillaria tenuifolia (coconut orchid) and my first Miltoniopsis (Edie Brown) last Sunday. Miltoniopsis have really thin leaves so I think they could be pest magnets. I posted a video yesterday of the orchids I have in bloom. They are in the video.
I don't think the leaf form makes a plant any more or less susceptible to pests, other factors tend to be at play. I treat anything as it crops up with fairly standard solutions though rubbing alcohol is a great cure all. Thanks for watching!
I do have the moreliana and it is currently working on 30+ new growths 😅 so be aware, it can get huge! I am looking forward to the blooms, it looks like it is going to be good! The flowers are stunning! Wonderful plants you did buy. I think they will love growing under your care.
I often wonder if the natives of South America attempted to domesticate and grow orchids in and around their homes, prior to eauropean contact. Why not? Something tells me they certainly did.
Propetalum Mathina is a rare and treasured find. It is practically impossible to find here in the US, I've found one person that has it and they refuse to sell me a division. Ironically, because you do better with Propetalum than Zygopetalum you should have no problems growing and blooming it. Despite the outward appearance to Zygopetalum, it prefers care similar to Propetalum.
