It's so refreshing seeing a foreigner really soak in the cultural diversity the US has to offer. No shortage of options in LA; so glad you're enjoying your time there!
wtf....its only Brits completely useless aproach to experiencing other countries that holds them back, unless they are drunk and smashing the place up...its why i rarely hang around anwhere near brits-abroad....beer-sky.tv-football-english.breakfast-all-inclusive-brigade....and if its america all they can seemingly do is go to florida.........
As a Mexican American from California I can tell you for a fact the food is just as good. Up and down the state there are tiny holes in the wall and large restaurants that make amazing authentic food and for the most part they are affordable for the portion sizes. I love this video, it's so wonderful hearing a foreign perspective on what I take for granted. Thank you!
I lived in San Antonio for 15 years and it was the same thing. It seemed like the dumpier the place was, the better the food. I miss it so much. I've been in Atlanta for 7 years and still haven't found a spot that would crack my SA Top 10.
This is one of the best Fish Out Of Water experiences on RU-vid and Danny is soaking it up and making himself right at home bless him! I love his videos!
@@vulpsturm Places like this don't skimp on the salsa's or spices .... now you can get hotter salsa's but you have to ask for it. Bet ya anything they have it on their menu
I'm SO glad you got the horchata drink bc it's my fav. I grew up on working class, family owned, local food in L.A. And I cannot believe you found the real deal mexican food that we natives love to eat. I'm SO impressed! I'm binging on your videos and I love them! I watch a lot of food & travel videos BUT you're special because you find these normal places that local people eat at. Not pretentious, not hipster, not trendy. Just little local food spots that I can relate to - cuz I'm not into Instagram food!
As noted previously, the restaurant is Campos Famous Burritos. The "menudo" on the window refers to a traditional Mexican soup/stew that is usually available only on weekends in many Mexican restaurants, as it takes time and effort to make it. It is also traditionally made at home for special occasions or holidays, such as for the New Year (it's a folk remedy for hangovers!).
Danny's reaction to Horchata lol. It's awesome to see Danny taste new foods/drinks. Hopefully he gets a chance to try some Hawaiian food, I can see that up his alley. Meat and Carbs, heavy comfort food.
So happy you got to try some quality Mexican food while here in the United States! Most Americans absolutely love their Mexican food and you can find a solid taco place in most American cities. Make sure to try some mole sauce while out there, it will blow your mind!
Yes, trying a burrito in LA really made sense. The population of Mexico City is around 9 million and Tijuana, the next largest city in Mexico, is around 2 million. And then, in the USA, the Hispanic population of LA is between 2 to 5 million (LA city versus LA county). So, there's lots of really good Mexican food in LA - even seafood, such as fish and shrimp tacos.
Just a shame there are idiots in America who get upset at non-Mexican people enjoying Mexican food because "it's cultural appropriation!" Usually they're not Mexican either!
I believe he started his channel when the pandemic started and some of the places he picked up food from didn’t have seating available. So he simply brought his own.
I haven't been back to LA for 40 years but I KNOW that Mexican restaurant. It's called Campos. And I know it's Campos because there is that Burger King restaurant across the street and the interior of the restaurant is pretty much the same (and they still offer red and green sauces). I ate there practically every weekday because I attended Santa Monica City College. And let me tell you, I was addicted to their cheese, avocado and lettuce burritos. They were like a drug to me. I always ate them with green chilli sauce. Absolutely amazing. I've never tasted anything like the food at Campos and I've tried Mexican food in places like Korea, England and Scotland and it's just not the same. xxx
@@rogerkangaroo6118 Menudo is mexican soup !!! It was on the window that it was available weekends and our Danny thought it was name of restaurant !!!!
when I first moved here and one of my first jobs there was a lot of Hispanic's working there, the first question one asked we was am I Irish so asking if he was Scottish is no surprise to me
He wasn’t far off was he? The distance between Scotland and Barnsley doesn’t even get you out of your state in America, as if Americans care about accents in every small northern town in England
I love love love watching you and Cameraman touring the US. Now next, off the beaten path and hit every state in the Union. God Bless and safe travels 🙂
My husband and I absolutely love your channel and have been watching you from the beginning. Finally you come to our town :-) We would LOVE to see you. Any chance? We have many great suggestions of places you can try. We are absolutely star struck that you are in our neighborhood. My husband is from England and I am from Spain and we are huge fans!!!
"Ay up cameraman what ya doing" in other words ger out me bloody face 😂 😂.... Danny you are a absolute inspiration to my life and the way I treat others and appreciate food ect. You have always got Time for other people mate and you are always kind, polite and respectful to others around you. And I chose a bad route from the age of 11 to 25, and by the grace of God and persistence from my old dot I'm now a hard working, sober, respectful and driven family man. My missus has made me want to wake up daily and strive to do well. And all I can do Is tell you my heart goes out you and that you are a mentally and physically stronger 💪 man than me. Keep up the wholesome amazing content. You are a amazing man and wish you every single bit of success and wealth. ♥ 🙏
Not anymore it's not It's a political nightmare where you can be arrested for offending someone or telling jokes that someone perceived as offensive with a corrupt government who straight up censored evidence of their own corruption in their corruption trial Shame the people allowed such a beautiful place to turn into a sh*tehole
Well described Danny. You've always been good at this, but you're getting better and better. This looks like better value for money than the previous USA candidates to me. Nice one! 👍
Genuine Mexican food is my absolute favourite, I’ve never had good Mexican food in England. My old Mexican neighbour used to make tamales every Christmas, heaven for your mouth
As a fellow Brit who lived in Texas for many years I loved Mexican food too, and I’m not sure but I think that gravy looked like what they call a mole sauce…..pronounced (Molay) or a poblano mole, in which they sometimes add a little chocolate along with chili peppers etc. the Mexican people usually have their own variations and recipes, so you will never get one the same. Glad you enjoyed it!
It's not mole, it's a red enchilada sauce made from red chiles. Some enchiladas are covered in a mole but this specific sauce looked like a standard red enchilada sauce
@@trinidad510 yes you are probably right, although I’ve seen some enchilada sauces look a lot redder than that! I’m doing a lot of experiments here back in England with Mexican recipes, although getting the kind of dried chilies you could just buy in the supermarkets in Texas is not easy in the UK, although you can get them online.
@@Tawny6702 yes the color can definitely vary, it depends on the style of Mexican food you're accustomed to. In Texas (and most of the US), the Mexican food is mostly Northern Mexican style which has its own flavor and unique taste. But Mexico is a huge country and each region makes each recipe differently from one another so it varies from place to place. My family is from Mazatlan, Sinaloa which is a coastal city in the western part of Mexico so the food my mother makes is very different from what you would see in Texas.
Danny! Love ya pal! I'm from the US and i'm super hyped to see you two getting to come here and try out some different foods. You HAVE to try some Korean bbq or some Asian cuisine while you're there!
LoL, good Mexican restaurants over here don't have time to bring it out, there too busy serving there customers inside, plus unlike in Britain Danny's not really known over here too much
Love the description of "Agua de Horchata" that Danny does. Excellent to see you in the USA. Hope you are coming to Chicago as well, lots o foody places here in the Windy City!
i've liked this channel fer quite sometime but i'm L.A. born and raised and i must say i never in a thousand years expected this dude to do an episode at a place i myself have actually eaten at. almost surreal.
Great video. Love your enthusiasm in all your videos. Just watching these is making me hungry. The burrito in Enchilada sauce looks absolutely delicious 🤤
Danny, years ago the food scene was fantastic, this crappy shut down of small buisness for a flu killed alot of mom and pop places. These folks are resiliant and comunity orientated so glad you went there, welcome.
Haven't been home to L.A. for 18 years, which blows my mind. Getting really homesick watching Danny chow down at Campos!! Winder if he'll hit Pink'ss, Phillippe's, and Tom's #5.
@@nigelnigel. Wow, I've noticed a lot of British people on here sure hate Americans. Can't we just watch a guy enjoy new food outside of the UK instead of always comparing UK vs US or talking crap about Americans? It's quite unbelievable to be honest the amount of hate on a food channel.
@@ttttt000 Just scrolled through messages off the back of reading your post Travis, not a single word of this ‘hate’ you mention. What on earth ar3 you talking about??
Haven't seen the full video yet but I have a sneaky suspicion this is the last one of the US "trip" videos. Two in NY and two in LA. Would love to be proven wrong but unless he went to other states in between NY and Cali then I can't see there being any other videos from the US.
That was a wet burrito. Enchiladas are deep fried burritos in the same red gravy (you can also get green). I was waiting for the moment sweet corn might creep in, but alas….glad you enjoyed it! Horchata is amazing, and a lot of us substitute it for eggnog at holiday times and add light and dark rum. Gracias Danny!
@@bigdaddigaming chimichangas, an American invention, are deep fried flour tortilla burritos. Enchiladas are oven heated rolled or flat filled corn tortillas, covered in a choice of sauce. Fresh corn is not a common ingredient except as like a corn salsa or ears of corn, chilaquiles, street corn.
Real authentic Mexican food is probably the tastiest food you can get anywhere. The main difference when you get it overseas is the meat isn’t marinated and seasoned the same. It’s marinated overnight so the next day it literally melts in your mouth. The absolute best imo is carne asada tacos with a medium heat orange salsa, finely chopped onions, & cilantro in soft corn tortillas with lime wedges to squeeze over the steak (I always add shredded queso cheese). That stuff melts in your mouth and is prolly my favorite meal anywhere. I first had it on vacation down in Mexico and fortunately have found a couple places up in the Midwest where it’s marinated the same. The only difference is the cheese isn’t quite as good (prolly to do with the freshness) but otherwise it’s identical.
Yo buddy! Angelino here! If you’re still in LA hit up Philippes Also I’ll add after finishing the video: you gotta try traditional soft tacos! Some solid soft shell Carne Asada tacos from a taqueria are the way to go. It’s a Mexican food staple. Typically any taco stand, restaurant or truck in East Los, Downtown, Boyle Heights, Van Nuys, Pacoima, Sylmar, Panorama City etc, any of those cities you’ll find a good spot just walking around.
This restaraunt is called "Campos". Menudo is a type of soup that they sell on the weekends. Campos is good, but there is much, much better Mexican Food in L.A. You should check out El Cholo, El Tepeyac and Titos Tacos. All of them are much, much better than Campos.
I do miss the days where he would go to sketchy hole in the wall Munchy Box places. I remember one where there was a battered burger patty that was uncooked inside haha.
Hi there, first time watching your videos. Glad you enjoyed your meal. I live in Houston Texas but I travel the country for work from Los Angeles to Atlanta, key west, so I have tasted all different kinds of foods.
