There are many ways to get chicks: at a local farm, from a feed store, and even online where they are delivered to you by mail. Check out my experience ordering from McMurray Hatchery and see my chick unboxing after picking up the chicks from the post office.

Ha ha ha, that's exactly the problem, you start browsing chicken breeds and want one or two of EVERYTHING !

You know that chickens are the "gateway" animals to getting more! Next it will be goats! :)

Ha! I believe it. I’ve definitely thought about getting other animals. So far, I’ve just gotten more chickens.

Looks like you have a beautiful flock. May I ask what breeds you have? Really a healthy looking flock. You have a great channel.

Thank you, Kevin! I have 18 chickens. Here are the breeds: Wyandotte, cream legbar, bielefelder, welsummer, rhodebar, Brahma, black star, Plymouth Rock, amercauna, cuckoo Marans, and black copper Marans

@@theheadhen1855 In your opinion they all appear quite tame. That is great. Have you had any issues with broodiness? Some people prefer lighter breeds because they do not go broody. I always preferred breeds like you have as well as Orpingtons. Some people claim that Rhode Island reds are aggressive. We never had that problem when I was on the farm as a kid. Murray Macmurray does have quality stock from what I remember.

@@kl1958 mine are all very tame but how tame has varied by breeds. My most broody hen so far has been the Rhodebar which is part Rhode Island Red. I’m glad you are enjoying the channel!

I just received 1 dead/8 dying chicks from McMurray after 69 hours in transit. 48 hours later all dead. My post office guy was shocked they don't use priority express, but they don't. They have something they charge for called "priority loading," can't find any mention of the existence of that at the USPS. McMurray states clearly that "priority loading" does not make the chicks arrive faster. They dropped the chicks at the postal center at 4:54pm, so they sat there for a full day before they even started moving. This chick puppy mill is practicing animal abuse, straight up.

I’m so sorry to hear this experience! I never had them take more than a day or two to deliver. I tried ordering from Hoover’s recently and half died. A very traumatic experience. I’ve made the decision from now on to order from breeders locally and hatch my own.
