Frontier Airlines has cancelled plans to take delivery of the A321XLR. Furthermore, the airline has deferred the delivery of other jets. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways has announced plans to continue growing its fleet in the coming years as it rapidly grows the business with Journey 2030.

As an Etihad frequent flyer, it's good to see them making good progress after some difficult years. Having the brand new Abu Dhabi terminal is a massive plus which will help retain new customers.

I bet Frontier, Jetblue, Spirit, and Airbus have agreed to cancel narrow body orders as part of Airbus' effort to find delivery positions for United Airlines.

They won’t cancel. There is a whole market for swapping delivery slots.

Etihad need to phase out those horrible 777s. The interiors are so dated and run down. it's almost like two different airlines stepping off their 777 and onto their A380.

I can only assume that those cancelling their A321XLRs didnt get the best deals. I would have expected a secondary market for those slots/aircraft. Unless of course the contracts forbid it and Airbus are currently allowing cancellations with minimal or even zero penalties.

Yep canceling orders isn’t a sign of strength. Didn’t meet performance for frontier means “we can’t fill that many seats.”

The standard A321neo would have more than enough range for the Frontier route network and as for Etihad, other business deals with dead loss outfits such as Alitalia was what Really got Etihad in the financial doldrums. Back then they were throwing money about willy nilly...

Airbus is at a point now that they're actually refusing new orders so i highly doubt Frontier's cancelation is making much difference. Especially seeing as they're not switching to Boeing anyway

The issue is that the 320neo isn’t getting more traction yet the Max 8 still is racking up orders. A lot of airlines are going for the 321neo instead so Boeing definitely owns that slow between the 319/700 and the max10/321

The Frontier news was more than a week ago. Any bad news from Boeing usually generates a huge headline here, but not Airbus. I've been saying for the past year or so that aircraft order bubbles are going to burst, and it's beginning to happen. Plane orders put huge financial pressures on airlines, and Airbus also has the problem of delivering aircraft that are going to be grounded due to engine issues. I've also said repeatedly how the A220 and the Max have essentially killed the smaller A320 variants, and the A321 order book continues to reflect this trend. Boeing is definitely going to introduce a larger narrowbody to go with the Max replacement. I'm glad they didn't do a Max though.

They scrapped the order not just because of finance issues but because the XLR performance dropped below their expectations! Well done Frontier 😉 (A test to see if those airbus fans get triggered and cry because of this )

Initial order was for A320. Then converted to A321XLR in 2019. Now converted to A321. Order not scrapped. I don't think A321XLR is suitable for LCCs anyway. 230 pax cramped into a narrow body for 8-11 hours is unbearable.

@@user-yt198 it is because it was dropped. But Aby aircraft is cramped if its a narrowbody. The future is the XLR for the narrowbody sector.
