In the thick of combat, as friend and foe grapple for supremacy in the drifts of gunsmoke on unfamiliar ground, split-second life and death command decisions are part of leadership. For Emory Fiske Best, colonel of the 23rd Georgia Infantry, his actions at the Battle of Chancellorsville cost him everything. Here's the story.

Subordinates always catch the heat when the higher echelon can't do their job! Another great story 👍

I wonder if there would have been a different outcome had the captain testified at Col. Best's court martial. Or did he?

Ron, I enjoyed this story! Thank you so much for this story! Could you do a story about the experiences of a surgeon who had to deal with a deluge of casualties during a battle!

New subscriber who only recently found this channel. I see that my work is cut out for me because you have a good-sized library. I’m not seeing anything about one of the most interesting Union officers I’ve encountered: Emory Upton. You might want to consider telling your viewers his story. If you’ve already done so I’ll find it. Really good work. Some of us have grown weary of robot voices and plagiarized copy about stuff we already know.

Politics will always be politics. Someone higher up no doubt deflected blame and ruined a good man in the process.
