Brigadier General Lewis Henry Little proved one of the most capable senior officers during the early part of the war. Maryland-born, West Point educated, and honored for courage in the Mexican War, Little resigned his U.S. Army commission in 1861 and joined the Confederacy. A year later during the Battle of Iuka, a Union minié ball ended his life. Here are two period accounts.
