Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru. Zoku Episode 08 scene. This scene just hits straight to the feels. I did add some color correction to the clip. No copyright intended.
Many story have main heroes with sad backstory, where the protagonist loses something or someone important and have to deal with to surpass his/her former self and go on with the story. Hachiman didn't lose nothing or anybody, but still suffered with daily things that happened in his life. It maybe not as tragic as someone's death or something like that, but the fact is traumas are something that different people deals with different ways (sometimes not even being able to). I didn't fully understood this scene at the first time, but what caught me offguard was the fact the Hachiman broke his sarcastic persona to open up his heart, and the way that the anime make this scene as perfect as it is, makes our "Hikki" a more relatable character
Hachiman crying just hits a little different huh? Hachiman just destroyed everything he stood for. The roundabout, reluctant way in which he explains it just shows how much he hates his own hypocrisy in that moment. In order to abandon his cynical worldview and the self sacrificing, self deprecating methods that were slowly beginning to fail because of the people around him that felt the pain each time he committed a social suicide, he had to become something he absolutely despised. He had to start fabricating reasons to take action. He began to look at Hayama's group for answers. He found himself trying to preserve something that he had earlier considered disgusting and superficial. It may seem pretentious and it is high school life at the end of the day(the light, soothing piano soundtracks seem to be there to remind us of that), but his massive development is undeniable. He realized that it was time to break out of his shell, so he finally decided to tackle the problem head on, before slowly, painfully expressing his desire for something genuine. This anime is such a gem
he find himself at the circumstances that he did not want in order to break out of it he has to explain his type of world (hate superficial things but being forced to do that, so we should understand he force to be hypocrite)
Definitely a gem. I'm so grateful we got that third season, because it took the series from being "pretty good" to being a fucking masterpiece. I would really like another season, though; it's kind of frustrating to go through that whole journey only to be cut off right when things were getting really good.
@@MiguelMedV Oh wow thank you! I jut put whatever I was feeling 3 years ago and put it into words in the best way I could. I'm glad it resonated with you :)
@@sidharthmenon7225 Yeah this Anime surprised me a lot, small fan service and a lot of good messages 💪🏼. I watched it 6 years ago and have tried to live Genuinely ever since, my life is very different now, I'm a Parkour and Calisthenics athlete among other things. I'll recommend it (at least the Zoku part) to a friend who might need it. I came here 'cause I was watching "Spy X Family" (2023) with my family and found out Hikigaya and Yuigahama's VAs are the MCs there too! 😄👌🏼💯...
My fave scene in Oregairu! I absolutely loved this show. So introspective, depressing, bleak, yet hopeful, has good laughs and feels. Can't recommend this show enough.
I love how Yui and Yukino just stop and look at Hachiman in shock the moment they realize he's fighting back tears, and it doesn't feel like the show is forcing all the attention onto him for no reason. He's letting himself be vulnerable around other people for the first time in his life and it's such an unbelievable situation, what other choice would they have than to take notice and be in awe?
"I don't want to be understood, i want to understand" Hits the hardest for me, Hachiman who was forced to be this pessimistic and self sacrificing kind person because of how much he was made fun of and bullied in the past. He never understood what real bonds are, he never understood what it means to be honest to others without being hated for it, he never understood why the girls also gets hurt whenever he hurts himself. Which is why he always glare at Hayato and his gang, he wanted to understand. Which is why he wanted something that is real or genuine, he wants to understand what it truly means to have people that truly cares about him for who he is.
@@LongHoang-uo3yw Because Yukino has never felt the way she is to Hachiman in her entire life. She is confused on what is "Something genuine" because same with Hachiman, she has never experienced true bonds until she met Hachiman and Yui. So as a self defense mechanism to something that is completely unknown to her, she rejects it at first.
Well you're talking about translated subtitles. 本物 is literally made up of "Original, thing/object" with its kanji. That "mono" is frequently used to mean "thing." The "real thing," or "genuine article" is the closest literal translation one can get. Whether it says authentic or the real thing or genuine doesn't really matter, because they're all fairly accurate translations that don't change the original Japanese. It's like when people say "wow he says it differently in the manga," about certain scenes in anime. Like no, he doesn't, it's just that two different people did two different translations lol. It all means the same thing, regardless of how "strong" it sounds to you in your native language.
@@CarboKill yeah depending on how many varied context people get in live, how “strong” people feeling between “real”, “authentic”, “genuine” are different
This show will always be a beloved favorite for me. Hachiman was who I used to be, and his desire for a relationship not built on fake ideals or assumptions and instead on being genuine and honest, without needing to explain ones motives, was what i wanted for so long And i found friendships like this. It IS possible.
At first when I was watching this scene, I just skipped it completely, probably because I kind of felt a lot of similarities to me and Hachiman's character even though I have friends. It kind of felt out of his character and cringe. Then I went back again after finishing the season and slowly played the scene trying to understand. Although I have friends and family I wish I could stay alone coz I wont be able to voice my opinions completely or make the other person understand me as I feel its just dumb to be able to rely on people when you can just survive without letting the other person understand as you still do, but after understanding and trying to voice my thoughts and making others understand me and vice versa it has become more fun. I realized how much I could relate to others and how easy it is to be able to stay friends even if we dont talk for a lot of time. Although I cant say I completely understand other, I can still tell what they feel and make understand without just going with the flow
I cant never do this in my life. Ill just keep it inside me forever until I die and vanish to the void of darkness. I salute all people who speak their mind
I think i can understand you and i can feel loneliness and those betrayals and heartbreaks i have felt till now but if you let those feelings out alone in room then you may feel good
It kinda hit me where he said, "I don't want to be understood, I simply want to understand" I don't understand the part where he said if everyone has self-consciousness to do the same to each other and accept it, he wants that but that is just impossible, I don't get it
u miss a context, the full statement was”but if we feel the same way…if relationships exist and we can force that ugly self-consciousness upon each other and accept it…”. I think it was a mistake of who cut 1 statement in 2 and separate it. That mistake make me confused to :V. Also for that statement i think he mean he and others people suffer to understand each others and being forced to use that superficial thing he hate to be accepted thing to bring people around

These are my views so shut up: I keep coming back to this scene and you want to know why? Its my favourite scene. It shows us that Hachimans "mask" is starting to break and this is something he GENUINLY wants. His tears really help him hit his pointbhone tbh.
ive finished the entire series and it was great, but would somebody mind actually explaining what he meant by wanting the "real thing" cause I never understood it
He wants something genuine. A connection with someone that isn't founded on facades, lies and self deceptions. His past experiences has left him scarred, and so he no longer trusts the words and actions of people that try to get close to him at face value. He always assumes ulterior motives and consciously observes his environment and the situations he's in to protect himself from getting deceived and hurt again. Despite all this, he still desires human connection. A genuine one. One that isn't based on or full of facades and self deceptions. To have that understanding and trust in someone, that what they say to him and do with him at face value is what they truly mean, without any hint of ulterior motives or facades that he could misinterpret as something else. He wants to fully understand someone, to get that peace of mind. Because having that constant awareness of your surroundings and the worst assumptions of people to protect yourself sure is mentally exausting and tbh its just pure toxic and unhealthy.
A bit late but isnt it yui that actually gave him something genuine.. she expressed how she felt even if she knows it might destroy her friendship with yukino and expressed that she doesnt want that friendship to end.. even if she looked like she is selfish she stayed true to herself.. yukino on the other hand decided to step back because she values her friendship with yuigahama.. she chose to lie to herself to be the nice girl.. in the end maybe hachiman is correct.. the nice girl is a lie and the selfish ones are the ones who are genuine.. except in the end he chose the nice girl.. he chose the lie..
mmm i see what you mean, very interesting thought! but hopefully u won't mind if i counter something u said? yui never actually wanted anything genuine. she says it herself in s3. i forget which episode it was exactly, but it's there. also! there are many reasons why yukino tried so hard to cut ties with yui and hikigaya. it's not just cuz she wanted to play the "nice girl" and did not want to end her friendship with yui. in fact, she was under a lot of pressure. first, we have yukino's sister, haruno, who kept on describing their current group dynamic as "codependency," which luckily didn't change yui's and hikigaya's way of doing things (yui denied haruno about them being "codependent" immediately after their convo while hikigaya had hiratsuka sensei assure him that it's not codependency and that haruno was just spewing nonsense just to see some action to happen). however, knowing how much influence haruno has on yukino as her respectable nee-san, and how yukino was going through a stage of character development in the series at the time (her desire to prove to her mother that she is independent and no longer the indecisive daughter she was before), haruno somehow effectively caused yukino to think that she is actually being codependent and that their relationship is not authentic at all. this caused yukino to think that the relationship she had with yui and hikki weren't as close as she thought... her feelings for hikigaya may have not been as "real" as she thought and were just there because of the codependency bs haruno came up with. consequently, yukino decided that it'd be best for her to distant herself to end the root cause of their "superficial" relationship - this supposed codependency. since she promised hikigaya to grant his request of "wanting something genuine," yukino wanted to fulfill his request by sacrificing her own feelings (funnily this was also how s1 and s2 hikigaya handled club requests) and allowing yui have the final say. i'd have to emphasize that yui confessing wasn't quite the "genuine" they all meant, because she knew from the very beginning that if hikigaya dated her, their relationship wouldn't be the "genuine" hikigaya would've wanted. their relationship would be one-sided and therefore a little forced. yui wanted it regardless. on the other hand, we all know that hikigaya's the type who never liked superficial relationships to begin with and wanted to avoid such relationships as much as possible. yukino may have ran away from the truth, but she did so because she had her reasons- one of them was to grant hikigaya's his desired "genuine". in the end, yukino was the one who wanted to follow hikigaya's "genuine" path, it was just that the whole idea of codependency threw her off, causing her to suppress her feelings without even noticing it herself. it's not a lie, but suppression. if u think yukino is a liar, watch the last episode of s3 where she confesses uwu. she loves him and definitely won't lie about it without a valid reason. ;)
Nevermore To say the truth, if you know a little of japanese you will see that this version of the Sub is the most "genuine" to what he really is saying.
there's no real thing, its something imposible that nobody can make it but even if its imposible 8man is asking for it because is all that we want, a genuine relationship. (i'm sorry if i don't speak english very well)
he wants a deep level of understanding in the sense of understanding and being understood by them, but it's impossible because of the realities of human life
@@shiningeditedmoon no, he wants a real relationship with people, not shitty friendship with a dude or a girl that if you say something wrong is all over. He wants real friends and thats why he ask something genuine.
@@offitzzJ_ they changed his whole personality through the season, I get character development but come on. It's like they forced a change in him cause every one else in the show didn't like the way he was, why tf he had to change for them 😐😑. If anything they could have left him the hell alone
@@dyshawmboldin5203his original bitter attitude was from getting rejected by girls in middle school and not reading and socializing with them properly. He even decided this year he would remake his image and get along with people but the car accident happened causing him to miss school after it started while he was recovering in the hospital. When he returned to school, He felt like an outsider again and just gave up having any friends. So his pessimistic and self sacrificing attitude was him just lying to himself to justify his rotten attitude.
