Tuna in the box despite a slow bite with scattered fish. Turn a boat ride into successful trolling aboard the Tuna Time II out of Garibaldi, OR.

For an Elderly fisherman like the one on this boat the electric reel is a god send. I have fought this on single speed penns in rough water and they can tire you out after several fish. Even the 2 speed shimanos were a work out after a time. best sashimi I ever had was cut from a fresh fish out on the water. don't forget your small bottle of soy sauce on the trip.

Do you get paddies up there? Cedar plugs and Black and Purple always worked if the fish were around. Brighter colors when the suns out. Mexican border areas off San Diego. Replaced by big bluefin and haven't been seen for years in SD waters. Multi hook ups, leave one soaking and his buddies will come in.

Not in the same way you are used to. It's just a different fishery and we deal with a lot more weather. When the troll bite is on cedar plugs do work well here also.

I book 5 trips every season and I usually end up getting out maybe twice. My advice would be to book multiple trips and hope that one hits

Yeah, you and me both. At the rate I'm going I'll have my own boat before I ever get out with a charter/6-pack.

@@AnglerWestTV @Angler West TV I'm a beginner altogether and when it comes to ocean fishing I've only caught seabass and rockfish, would it be a bad idea for me to try for albacore with a charter so soon?

@@ari-im7or you dont have to have any experience to fish for albacore, i took people out in the ocean for their first time this year and they caught tuna.

I never thought about using an electric reel before but Since I like to fish four poles by myself, Im going to try the electric reels on my next trip!!

Electric reels are wack for that type of fishing, albacore fishing is awesome though.

@@AnglerWestTV an angler back in the early 90s tells a story about being spooled twice on his 2 speed tld 30 with #80 big game line before he got sight of a fish. the third fish broke off next to his grady he said it would have broke the igfa world record claims close to a hundred pounds the fourth fish he finally landed it hit the scales at 77 pounds he said the first three were all bigger then the fourth .he also stated there speed and power were unlike any tuna species he had ever caught these four fish were from several trips to the banks the cordell bank off the farallon islands.I have never forgot about this picture and wright up.I cant remember what magazine it was in won or the other one back then. my best friend had a beautiful grady 25 trophy pro twin 200 xxl shafts back then but we didnt have any big tuna gear. but know 30 years later i have the boat an the gear. it is kind of like a life quest. this is the year i have been waiting my whole life for and no one is going to stop me from trying my current pb is #40 pounds caught on the red rooster back in 98 but I plan on shattering that this year off the coast of california on my boat with me being the captain so i dont have to deal with sceptics that give up after two hours of trolling.with blue fin going over 200 pounds last year in the same area i know the chances are good my cal star 6460 xxh has been waiting 30 years just like me and its finally time so get ready for the new IGFA world record albacore you dont have to go to japan they swing buy every ten years or so but no one knows pics dont lie. captain mike on a mission hope to be on anglers west some day...

back one year in the 90s when el nino hit california there was a few really big ones caught on the west coast. I remember hearing of a 90 lber, a few striped marlin and mahi caught in norcal waters and up to westport. seems like every year its getting better for tuna down in socal and even a few in norcal

@@eriks9576 there was a mahi, and a bigg ass marlin caught out of Garibaldi this last year. Bluefins in the 50-100# range are caught every year out of the columbia river bar as well. Just gotta be the lucky guy, and the right day.
