Last month I spent a week road tripping the Oregon Coast with my mom. With her living a province away and our lives getting busier, it's hard to find time to get togehter. Despite the challenges, we made it happen. Along the way we stopped at all the scenic photography spots, got rained on, and enjoyed unexpected moments of sunshine. We visited lighthouses, shot waves with a 600mm lens, and ate lots of fish and chips. For some reason, I craved a cupcake the entire trip, but none of the bakeries could fill that void.
We gazed at the ocean, appreciating the infinite views, and talked about our futures. I read "The Alchemist", by Paulo Coelho aloud while she drove, sparking deep discussions about hidden meanings and omens in our journey. At this point in our lives, we both feel we're searching for new creative paths, and the book's words resonated deeply with us.
I loved looking out the window, listening to the "Dune" soundtrack, and watching the waves crash below, perfectly matching the power of the sea. Shortly after visiting the very dunes that inspired Frank Herbert was incredible. It calls to mind Søren Kierkegaard's words: "Life is not a problem to solve, but a reality to be experienced." This sentiment was perfectly echoed by Frank Herbert in "Dune,'" emphasizing that life's mysteries are not burdens to bear, but adventures to embrace and in fact savor. That's exactly why we took a risk traversing the those dunes knowing a hungry sandworm lurk beneath the surface haha.
Continuing our journey, we went down to the south point of the state to visit the renowed Natural Bridges, sculpted by the relentless force of wind and water for thousands of years. But the moment that made the trip complete was walking along Bandon Beach, witnessing the sunset cast its golden glow over the silhouette of Wizard's Hat. It was a moment now etched in my memory.
This was a trip for the books, one I'll forever cherish and long to relive.
