Just a couple small corrections, the Chehalis and Centralia Railroad and the OCSR are 2 entirely different companies and have not alot of connection between them, and the depot you spoke of at Blue Heron is actually the original SP Tilimook station, but there is no plans to run trains to Blue Heron as the track is about half a mile east of the factory, and there is a bridge between Garibaldi and Tillimook that is not fit for passenger trains. Great video though!

Great video. Couple of corrections: When the Skookum was wrecked in 1955, it derailed an gently capsized. Didn't break a single piece of glass. The line was about to be abandoned and Skookum was left where she lay. #7 languished in storage in Snoqualmie and at the Mt Rainier Scenic shops for decades, but I never saw it in Chehalis. The Centralia Chehalis train is indeed a fun ride.

Speaking of speeder excursion, I am running the Oregon Coast Scenic RR next Sunday. Enjoyed your video. The Skookum used to be called "The Little River" named for the logging operation it was made for back in the Southeast. I came to the NW for logging operations. My brother had (now it is mine) an O scale two rail brass model of this locomotive and I will be taking it with me to Tillamook Bay to photograph it with the Original. Chris Baldo is the owner of the Skookum, he ran motor car excursions when I first got into this hobby. McCloud #25 ran on the McCloud River RR in Northern California and I feel I am coming full circle. The McCloud line no longer exists, but this locomotive was there when I made my first Speeder run ever on the McCloud. Tillamook branch was sold to the Tillamook Bay RR and it was home to the several SD9s of both SP and BN. It was a major flood that disconnected the railroad from Portland back in the early 2000s. I barely missed making the last speeder trip on that line. Couldn't gget away from work for the Saturday run. I will have my video on my youtube page sometime next week. Great job.

When I stopped and thought about it, it’s all the way through the line connected with the ocean !!! I immediately thought of the “Florida Keys” and the train that ran up until (1935) when the last hurricane destroyed the rails and Flagler decided to sell it to the state to Bring (“US-1”) all the way down to Key West !!!!! Or as the natives call it Margaritaville in Key West in (“Kokomo”) between Marathon key north. Up to Key Largo !!! And yes Kokomo does exist between the islands of Key Largo and Marathon stuck right in the middle !!!!! 🌊🐺

Love to come drive that road sometime

@jorgel.fernandeziii8278 5 лет назад
The only problem with driving that road all the way down to Key West on US-1 is that the speed limit is 55 all the way “from” the 37 mile stretch starting at Key Largo all the way to Key West is exactly 100 miles ! And we go by Mile Marker in the Florida Keys, like Key Largo starts at mile marker 100 and ends at mile marker 97 Tavineer starts at mile marker 98 ! Street names are secondary ! I lived on Grouper Trail in Key Largo MM-94 ! 🌊🐺

The boiler in the shop ahead of the Skookum belongs to Sierra Railway 2-6-2 No. 30, which is being rebuilt for the Pacific Locomotive Association, the owners of the Niles Canyon Railway in Sunol, California.
@ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 6 лет назад
I was told several versions of everything. That Skookum was going to Niles. It does seem that it belongs to one person. This is often the case. In most groups while some of the equipment belongs to the group, some belongs to members, and often it ends badly what a person sells or moves their equipment. And others say, no that belongs to the group. Boy have we seen some hair pulling.
@SierraRailway
@SierraRailway 6 лет назад
I find it odd that even the folks there wouldn't know, or perhaps they all have different versions of the story to keep people confused (some places don't like to share their secrets for some reason). Deep River Logging No. 7 (Skookum) is owned by Chris Baldo of Willits, California. I believe the original plan was to have it moved to the Roots of Motive Power Museum just up the road from the California Western Railroad depot there, but not sure if he has made other arrangements at this point. The Roots of Motive Power Museum is a few miles from Baldo's locomotive shop just outside of Willits. Skookum will remain on the Oregon Coast Scenic until at least late March next year, Trains Magazine have chartered a special photo train with it.

Angell and Karyn, the next time you venture to the East of your domain, a trip to the Ames Brothers Monument, and with the property holders permission, a look over the site of Sherman township, there must be some foundations still visible, and the roundhouse turntable pit is visible on Google Maps, the cemetery, and then follow the track to (4x4 country)to the site of the Dale Creek trestle. that would be really of interest. All the best, you keep us all interested!

My Dad and twin brother and I went to see it laying on it's side along the road bed that had just been picked up and abandoned the locomotive. That was 1955. That was on a 4449 trip to Northern California, I believe it was a trip to Sacramento and they pulled 4449 alongside 25 at a junction between the BNSF Railway Oregon Trunk Line and the McCloud River Railroad. There's pictures of that online. It was probably the late 1980's or early 1990's. It could have been even later in the 1990's. I don't know for certain, though. I know that was a rare occasion, a trip that will probably never be repeated, due to the current attitude of railroad companies like Amtrak, BNSF Railway, Union Pacific Railroad, and others across the country. That's why trips to railroad museums, tourist railroads, excursion trains, switching, terminal, regional, and shortline railroads that are still willing to host passenger trains of any kind are so special!

There's something about American railways that just seems so different, so strange to me. I do not like open cars. I used to work on the Puffing Billy Railway that is almost entirely open air "excursion" coaches on their trains. (The first and last coaches are usually conventional coaches to be used as guard's compartments) the NBH excursion coaches (N for Narrow Gauge, B for second class, H for Holiday) are solid at the ends and have full length doors with windows the same as a normal carriage but the walls of the coaches are open at the sides and barred with horizontal bars. It's traditional for kids to sit on the side of the coach with their legs dangling and held in place by the bars. When stored at night or on rainy days there are plastic roll down sheets that can be pinned down to secure them. The sheets have clear plastic panels to see through but not very well. (I believe they were originally canvas)
