It's a battle among functional medicine tests! In one corner, the Organic Acids Test (OAT) by Great Plains Laboratory. In the other corner, the NutrEval by Genova Diagnostics. Which one will come out on top? Can you use these interchangeably? Do I actually order these for my patients? Stay tuned to find out!

Fabulous! Would love to see more videos about validity and consistency of common tests care providers typically use

Thanks for sharing. My only problem with GPL OAT is that it doesn’t include any recommendations for supplements. If they could add that, I think I would be a great test. Not sure why they don’t do that. For the NutrEval, my issue with it is that it doesn’t include vitamin B5. I think they assume that b5 deficiency is uncommon which is inaccurate. It’s like you can’t get a perfect test that includes everything. You must take multiple test to get a true picture of your nutritional needs. Another issue with the NutrEval is that you can’t rely on it for heavy metal toxicity because those heavy metals don’t linger in the blood for long. For that, I prefer a hair tissue mineral analysis which is relatively cheap. While I would like to only do one test, I find it impossible if you need an accurate picture of your metabolism and nutritional needs. Have you looked into Spectracell, vibrant, cell science systems and their micronutrient tests?

Do you know the difference between this netrival and organix from genova? Also I agree with the metals and hair testing is the best way but the mecury bar doesn't need to be high for a diagnosis most people aren't excreting it, best way to look is through mineral transport derrangment, Andy cutler made 5 rules.

Wow... This is so relavatory. The oxalate numbers disparity is mind blowing....Thanks again for doing this. I would love to see more of the same. I know your emphasis is GI. But there are also the various saliva cortisol/CAR assays to investigate, for example - ZRT vs DUTCH.

The nerdier the better as far as I'm concerned :)

This is awesome content. Including the 2 Oat test with same urine video. It’s good to see they mostly line up. I do question the reference ranges these companies use. How do we know what’s optimal or deficient? Are they just using a database of sick people they collect from to make the reference ranges?

Awesome video! Question Dr. DiNezza: If one has been taking certain nutrients for several months..is it wise to stop supplementation for a period of time before testing? If SO, how long would that be? Thank you so much!

Hello Doctor! I recently for the first time did a nutreval test so your video is starting to make sense considering I’m not a clinician. Question: Have you heard of Dr Huberman’s inside tracker test? If so I welcome your feedback between the inside tracker vs nutreval. Thank you Doctor 🙏🏼

The real truth seems to be at 20:06 of the video- Dr. says she has moved away from these kinds of tests because they don't really give patients the kinds of answers they need. I think we'd all love it if a simple test could tell us exactly what we need to do to regain our health (usually in the form of taking a handful of pills), or improve it, and that's why these tests are so popular, but it appears that the current state of the science is such that they just aren't able to do that. They give you a lot of results with these tests, but if they aren't really indicative of anything meaningful, or what they are measuring has no useful correlation to the conditions they seek to investigate, of what use are they?

Rice can increase arsenic. I think maybe tea, too.

Yeah, I think the ones I've heard the most are rice and chicken. We eat some of both, but what's odd is that this marker went up in the last two years despite not increasing my consumption of those foods. I may need to check the water situation at our new house. Eek!

Watching this to see if useful as get really tired sometimes then ok. B12 is high or hi in, but taking helps feel better and so does a tiny bit of B1 and B2. and biotin. or just add liver to diet. Wonder if this would help why hi iron in last 2 yrs sometimes but lo or lo in ferritin. Did find papers on B12 analyzers as some use antibodies and if person has those, skewed results, so have B12 defic. symptoms then MMA or homocysteine can help decipher. Yrs ago a Spectracell lab result lo biotin and B5 and taking those rid hair loss had for 15yrs! Susan Owens uses OAT for oxalic acid health but not sure if it worked for those people (TLO group). Appreciate your video on this subject.

My understanding - Great Plains OAT test is by urine analysis. Genova NutrEval is by blood analysis. I trust blood analysis any day over exotic urine non standard metabolite markers.

Is the Nutrieval test worth it for someone with chronic conditions such as depression with no clear cause? I cannot get answers, could this comprehensive test provide some people with insight into their condition?
