This video shows a time lapse over 1 week of the results of top dressing my lawn with composted manure. The contact for the composted manure is John - 559-469-7017 in Stratford, CA.
I had a customer who every so often would clean out their pond and spread the pond muck on their lawn, I thought they were busy but Christ did that grass grow fast after. Great job and thanks for the video.
This has to be the #1 lawn improvement before/after video I have seen on RU-vid. Awesome job man! I had my yard composted today (San Antonio, TX). I'm hoping for the same results. Simular story, clay soil, compacted, contractor tore the soil up building the homes in this area 15 years ago and the ground is still struggling. However, I enjoy a challenge. 😉
Your ground is struggling likely because the builder took the valuable top soil and sold it off leaving you with garbage. Happens a lot here where I live.
Heather Sowell - Hi Heather. The service I used did a good job, but I may do it myself next time. It will be cheaper and great exercise. The service I used: Eco Lawn San Antonio (Brad Walser is the owner - great guy btw). Call him @ (210) 316-9444. The bottom line is I wanted to stimulate my soil with micro organisms and he delivered. He used a compost that's high in "nutrients" (manure based.. lol) and my grass responded VERY well. I have a variety of grasses; Bermuda and St Augustine. The Burmuda was the greenest I have ever seen it... the St Augustine... not so much. I expect that the extra Phosphorus has a better impact on the Bermuda. I could go on-and-on because it is my pet project. If you have any additional questions let me know and good luck! 😃
Looks awesome. If you want it to be even greener add a little iron. It'll make it a darker green and sort of acts like a sunscreen in stressed times. Try it you'll like it.
I had to laugh when you mentioned not telling your wife about spreading manure on your lawn. My Dad was to buy steer manure to fertilize the lawn but instead bought and spread chicken manure. Oooops!! Neighbours 10 zip codes away could smell it. It took a long time for him to live that down...this happened decades ago and still makes me chuckle. I own a horse and know the benefits of livestock manure. Black gold!!
Wow! The results of a beautiful lawn w/ no detaching, no aerating nor reseeding!...it almost hard to believe! Well... One thing we do have in Puerto Rico, is MANURE. I'm on it KG, Thanks!
None of those things are necessary for a nice lawn (well, except for seeding if you have bare spots). This worked because manure is simply nitrogen. All he did was fertilize his lawn.
Thank you for the great tip! Put some manure over some dead areas in my lawn and man what a difference. Cheaper yet most effective way to bring back the life of Bermuda. Manure, Scotts and Milorganite!
Holy amazing results! Assuming Bakersfield is still as hot and dry as it was when we left in the 90's, I feel hopeful this would work in Texas too. Thanks!
I just moved into a house and gave this a test run on a small patch of my backyard. It worked really well! The yard was badly neglected so there are patches that need to be re-seeded, but the composted manure is a winner.
Looks great, I will try this in the U.K. synthetic grass has its uses but does nothing for the native birds and wildlife. My wife just watches me work too, whilst giving me “helpful “ advice. Thanks for the video
Organic cow manure is a great supply of nitrogen. I've been using it on my lawn and the results are very good: a darker green lawn, healthier grass plants and good growth - requiring more frequent mowing. That's how I like it. The manure smell isn't noticeable after a couple of days.
We did this to a country home with horse manure from the neighboring horse barn onto plain dirt with grass seed. Can I tell you... It stunk heavy for about a week, but a month went by and it was the freshest greenest grass I've seen for a while...
Good work and good job on a time-lapse my dad's lawn when I lived in Bakersfield to do exactly the same thing responded really well to manure but don't be afraid to Super over fertilize it because you can't kill that stuff and then it will have lots of fertilizer so I sometimes double or even triple the normal fertilizer. This is the proper way to dominate your Neighbors lawn especially artificial turf!
Pretty cool Sir! I added compost early this week also but wish I had that wheel to spread it. I ended up putting in few sticks in my lawn...my St Augustinegrass was actually pretty green already but wanted to add the compost more to improve my sandy loam soil. Thx for your vid it pushed me to do the job.
That's the exact reason why I bought that spreader. Years ago I spread manure and ended up with sticks/rocks/clumps/etc. That spreader did the trick on keeping it clean.
I have been considering doing this to amend my soil. Areas are dry and dusty, lacking organic material. I have been considering manure hoping it might open up the soil a bit. Our climate in West Texas is nearly identical to Bakersfield. We get a bit more rain, but you guys can water more often. Because of the similarities, your video has been super helpful and it has convinced me to go ahead. Unfortunately I happened to mention it to my wife already...
Very cool video! Thanks for the post. I’m trying to fill in some brown patches of my lawn (St.Aug.) that I burned out because of over use of herbicide in spot patches. My lawn is very shallow due to our lava rock base. I hope I can use the manure to level and top dress too. Appreciated your time lapse very much!
@@rushmuzik it’s creeping back with some seed germinating. Going well, but have to be vigilant about the seed watering. All the attention means my lawn is getting better and better.. 😃
excellent job...did the same to a section of 1000 sq ft of my 5000 sq ft lawn to see what happens.(cow manure and compost).spread milorganite over the top(about 15 lbs of it) and raked it in with a garden rake. i should have taken pictures of before and after..this was st augustine floratam in south florida,..the difference in color was amazing..took about 3 weeks to show up but once it started it did not stop...did the rest of it..happy wife happy life.
Lawn looks real good. Nice job. I did notice that in the final picture there seems to be a little manure on the areas where it was dry to begin with. Might want to cheap your sprinkler head for clogged or calcium build up might not be getting enough water in that particular area. That is what happened to me. Great video. From Bakersfield, CA.
Nice to see a lawn tutorial from a California resident. I just fertilized and seeded my lawn with steer manure three days ago as it's cooling down here in So Cal. Not sure how often to water, but I knew I had to keep it moist initially so I may have broken the law, as I've watered for three days. I'll give it a break for the next couple days.
So you top dressed your lawn. Very nice. I've got to top dress my lawn. It's all clay. I can aerate until the cows come home and it won't do much for it. I don't fertilize with chemicals or spray for weeds. I love the distribution wheel. I'll have to look around for that one. Never saw one around here in Pa. Thanks for not using chemicals. They're killing my honeybees and other beneficial insects.
since you have clay soil look for the Next products from lawn care nut. They have a product called air 8 which will soften your clay. Not sure I spelled air 8 right but you will know it when you see the products. It will help.
Yes, Here in East call it Mushroom Dirt or Old Compose or Dark Lume - all this years ago was just Called Good Top Soil . . Milky Spore to the Lawn will Naturally Keep Grubs from Killing Root system , Very Good Protection - End Up Watering Less as the Plants aren't Stressed . " Grubs Love Water "
Great results, I think I'll make the spreading roller, looks easy enough and appears to do an awesome job. G'day from Aus. I'm Brent, using wife's account. Won't be pleased either .🤣🤣🤣
Bermuda grass sucks in the winter, but usually pops right back as soon as the weather warms up again. I’ve found while it’s heat tolerant, it does like water too. Having said that, I hated it. It grows sideways and I have to constantly edge it.
Perfect, i just did this to my lawn. I mixed it with top soil. I have my fongers cross. I wish I had that mesh tool instead of using the back of the rake.
My buddy swore by it. Used the same process as you did. He would move his lawn at the lowest setting bagging to pick up weeds or die off and then would lay manure. Neighbors complaining about the files but heck after a few weeks he had the best lawn.
This just proves what is right and more economically sound instead of buying pallets of sod no matter what type of grass you want to grow always works with manure you will have weeds but it can be controlled
now if you want to make that lawn super green and lush, water with Grey water from your laundry washing machine, instead of wasting it down the drain. the discharge does wonders to any landscaping, gardens etc.
Had to laugh at the wife comment. I'M the one that sprays for mosquitos and fleas, and treats the yard for fire ants. Now I will be treating the yard! Hubby never questions anything I do. He just thanks me for all the work I do. But man, how nice your yard turned out! Hope I will be as successful as you were! Thanks for posting this video. 👍🏻
I'm in Canada we don't have spreaders like that here have to order from states . Might bite the bullet and get one will cost me over $450 Canadian for one! Good job good results!
