@@kck9742 I used polyurethane over the top to stick mine all down and protect it as well. That might help it stick, if you use some glue to stick down the parts that are coming up first.
This is what I did! We used contact paper on ours 3.5 years ago, and have replaced the caulking once just because it was yellowing a bit, but it worked well!
We used marble contact for our place but didn't caulk and the only spot it has lifted is around the faucet so I think I'm gonna replace the paper around there and then caulk it this time
I noticed your dry herbs are above your stove on the wall. Herbs should be kept in a dry cool area for maximum shelf life. Above the stove is hot and can have moisture ( boiling water for pasta) I thought the rest of your tips were great though. I loved seeing your cute dog 😍
Emily Altom, I have a vent above my stove and above the vent is the vent duct that is enclosed with in a cabinet with doors. The vent duct takes up most of the space so I don’t keep anything in there.
One downside to contact paper is how delicate you'll need to be with hot pots and pans, perhaps merely dishwasher warm. You could melt or burn it fairly easily.
I never put anything hot on the counter but you made me think of something else. I wonder if where my dishwasher is, some steam will escape and cause it to lift.
I’m so happy to see you utilizing your butler’s pantry for your everyday dishes. It not only looks great on display, but is so functional and opens up precious space in your small kitchen for cooking items/tools. I’m anxious to see how you maximize the rest of the space in your butler’s pantry! Love how neat and tidy the click-clack cabinet looks!
Contact paper has so many great uses. But remember: Always use a chopping board and trivets (contact paper cuts, nicks and scorches/melts very easily on work surfaces) and use a sealant (caulk or grout) around the sink to stop moisture lifting the paper. Caution around hot areas like ovens or hob as heat can lift the edges too.
I love your moms style and videos. She’s amazing and you emulate her well. Whether that is intentional or unintentional, you both are great in my opinion! 🥰👌
How cool I have enjoyed your mom for years. Love your brothers apartment move video. Peace to you all! You have so much fun in your videos, thanks for sharing!
Hannah Anderson are they water resistant? Like, if you spill something does it screw everything up? And any idea if it would be removable? I’m super interested in this, but I don’t want to lose my deposit!
Study Hard Travel Smart I cook every day for all three meals and I’m a messy cook, they haven’t stained, peeled, or broken in the last 8 months of cooking on them. I even roll out dough on them as well and they look great and protect the countertop underneath. Just don’t set hot pans on it. If you bake something put a hot pad on the counter first and then the pan and it is just fine (like most countertop care rules). It’s 100% renter friendly and you can get the contact paper from Walmart for $7
Can you set hot things on top of the contact paper? And what about setting things like cast iron skillets that usually leave a residue on there? What about utensil punctures?
Mine were an awful yellowy marble color, and I got a black/dark gray marble contact paper counter top and LOVE it! Its been 3.5 years and never have had any issues!
I rent an apartment in nyc and had some brown counter tops. I used the same marble contact paper and over a year later its still in really good condition!! Thank you sooo much!! ❤🥰
I moved into my new-to-me condo a year and a half ago...My kitchen countertops are black granite. The kitchen is back and white, originally done about 10 years ago but ahead of its time then. Great oak cupboards, lovely white subway tile backsplash, nice tile flooring, stainless steel appliances, stainless steel sink with disposal and hot and cold water filter. I have nice under counter lighting too. It has a small but doable pantry. My kitchen is small but it works and I cook all three meals from scratch every day!! I added a buffet in the dining room and a 1970's vintage, "statement piece" wood credenza nearby for extra pots and pans. I don't care for a lot of stuff sitting out or open shelving (even though it is currently "in-style.")
I dont mean to be offtopic but does any of you know a method to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Jaxx Mathew Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I have had the same contact paper on my kitchen counter and island for 2 years now and they have held up really well. No peeling, no stains, no ripping. Best $100 i spent in the rental.
Shelf liners create a hiding place for roach eggs, which look like rice grains, as well roaches...... If you live in super hot regions proceed with caution. Loved the video, btw. The organization is next level. I'm hooked.
@Sandi Baby312 I guess you're being sarcastic. I live in Florida. I am also a trained professional as I've worked many years as a health Inspector. I have seen those liners harbor vermin in homes as well as in hotels and numerous food service establishments. If you truly have a vermin issue in your pantry, use air tight plastic or metal containers, seal all entry points and seek the assistance of reputable vermin controlling company. All the best
Thank you so much for these ideas! My husband and I bought a “fixer upper” old 80-90’s style home. Our kitchen is so small and old looking. The countertops are laminate that is old and stained. It’s not within our budget to update it yet so we’ve been looking for something cheaper. I love the contact paper idea!
Love the idea of contact paper on the countertops to refresh until I can replace with marble!! Mine are the fake granite look with pressed board now. Not pretty so that contact paper will be an upgrade lol
I installed this contact paper in my kitchen September 2018. I do a lot of cooking and the paper is still perfect around the sink. I did use mod podge on the seams
Looks great cosidering how little it costs per roll I'm thinking to try this, if it only lasts 6 months or so its cheap enough to replace that part if need. I used this contact paper in my bathroom shelves this week. and I loved the end result. Shelves look Great!
My husband and I just purchased our first home and it was a little overwhelming at first to think about how I can make our home feel like a home and a place that we both want to be but I came across your videos and I have so much excitement about it now. I cant wait to use some of your amazing tips on our home. Love your videos! And you are so pretty and angel-like! So thank you😊💗
i used that same contact paper in my new home 13 years ago and it is still in great shape. I used it in the all of the drawers and cupboards of my kitchen, laundry room, and bathrooms. I didn't use it in my office and wish i had because it repels any spills or stains and is very easy to clean. Love your channel!
My countertops are faux wood laminate, underneath. ☺️ I did the countertops in marble contact paper last year and I love it!! It has lasted and is such easy upkeep. You’re gonna love it!! 😃💖 I even did the back of my cupboard shelves with the marble contact paper. It gives such a high end cohesive look. 😍
I painted our countertops with the Giani Countertop Kit in White Diamond. I HIGHLY recommend it! They aren't my forever countertops...but look great on a budget!
looks awesome!! Amazing how the light countertops make everything appear brighter and larger. *TIP* Put your spices in alphabet order so when you are looking for a spice you can find it really quickly. :)
You did a fantastic job on your counter! It changed the entire look of the kitchen. I never would have thought of using contact paper on the counter. GOOD JOB!!
It looks good when you first do it, but be SO careful with water and moisture in general on your counters! I've done the contact paper thing before (burnt orange laminate counters yikes) and it just didn't hold up to actually cooking and using the space. Good luck man, I hope it works better for you.
I redid some u.g.l.y purple laminate with the marble contact paper - also clear coated it with polyurethane to try to improve durability. It didn't. It scratches through super easy. Turmeric leaves yellow spots that don't come off with cleaner (accidently spilt some) and newspapers/food labels will transfer print to the surface if they get wet and are there for just a few minutes.
My counter tops are all butcher block wood. We have owned 2 house now and did this with both we LOVE it and it is so easy to make cost us about 100$ for huge counters 🙌
I would LOVE to know where you live, because I'm making a trip. A friend of mine just redid her kitchen, and put a very small, thick butcher block at the end of her island and it cost nearly $1,000 extra. It's GORGEOUS, but I could never imagine what e cost would be for a whole kitchen around here.
I saw a video on another channel, she purchased a Wooden knife drawer!! It was awesome but she never said where she found it, darn. Good for little counter space. It’s so great to see we regular people of regular means trying things in our cute kitchens, instead of these Kardashian homes that are not really realistic in the lives of moderate means!! That’s most of us. Ty!!!
@@rachellepoirier3695 My dad has a wood company basically so the wood didn't cost much for us and my husband is very handy so he did the butcher block by himself we paid 15$ for glue , 20$ for the finishing products and the rest for wood :)
We renovated our kitchen using quartz stone for the countertops. For our island we took inspiration from your mom's designs in the La Jolla house-we found a stone that is transparent and lined it with led lights underneath. It was a lot of work, but so worth it, as our kitchen is the heart of the home.
Can’t believe how much you’re able to change in USA rentals. I live in the UK, and honestly every landlord I’ve ever heard of would flip out if we changed the house that much!!
I'm in the U.S. and have rented several places. I had to have ANY changes approved beforehand and that contact paper wouldn't be acceptable everywhere. Just depends on your landlord.
I love that you mentioned rent ideas! I have been so afraid of decor stickers and backsplash! I can now do it and not be afraid for my security deposit! Thank you for all of this!!!!!
True, I had to laugh at the question of the video because I don't even have ANY counter space, my kitchen is literally a sink with an cabinet underneath next to a stove. When I need to cut something I put my cutting board on top of the sink or do it on the living room table. I don't even have room for an oven because the washing machine had to go under my stove. Then there is a fridge and a little shelf next to it... I still click on videos like this in hopes of finding advice to optimize my space but am mostly disappointed
Lol- I totally love the reactions when people find out Rebecca is your mum!!!!!!! I’m LOVING House to Home, Sharrah. I’ll be starting again soon with two kids, so this is giving me something to look forward to in a time of what will be a tough transition xxxx
I use mason jars to store my dry foods. I buy in bulk from winco! I still buy small amounts(you pay for what you take) and you don’t have a bunch of cardboard from all the boxes of stuff you buy from the shelf! I consolidate my mason jars when I can and the ones we aren’t using in the pantry we use to drink out of or for leftovers! ❤️
OH MY GOSH! I just subscribed to you because I loved your channel and Its funny because I about a year back I watched your mom's videos and i LOVED them. So, no wonder I loved your videos! I may join the design sessions! I've been considering going to school for interior design but Interior decorating is what interests me and there are so many resources online that I could learn from. I will keep this in mind as a being my personal interior decorating journey.
@ Thank you so much for replying to this! I was searching the comments for it. Since you've done this before, how does it hold up when you clean the counters?
That contact paper is amazing stuff, I've covered an outside table top, my office table mat that was a scrap piece from our kitchen floor, my bed side table. So good. I brought a plastic table cover a faux wood style and covered my horrible blue/green dining room table with it. Now it looks like a farmhouse table, and it is protected at the same time. Our kitchen counters are the wood ones from Ikea. They are really cheap and easily replaceable if they get damaged, which they don't coz it's Ikea. Awesome tips too .Scout is so sweet.x
Hi Sharrah, That countertop is nothing compared to the one I used to have. Omg the countertop in my first apt. was bright orange/reddish color. You tiny kitchen is adorable. The Marble contact paper on your countertop looks amazing. We hope you’re enjoying your new home in San Diego. Happy Designing💕Thank you for sharing
I moved into my house about 2 weeks after you did and these videos are truly helping me get inspo on how to decorate and make my new house feel like a home! Thanks for making these!
I love your videos. I also have a question regarding the contact paper. What's it like around wet areas? I noticed you did it right up to the sink. If it gets wet will it start to lift? Thank you in advance.
Our apartment counter tops are laminate as well. Dark gray with random splatters of white and dark blues. We don't have a window in there either so it makes it feel so dark and cramped. I would absolutely change it if we could (thankfully we move out next month!). I stumbled across this video and subscribed. Love your personality! And all the tips. Your kitchen looks so nice and homey now. 💕
I just wanted to say, you are AWESOME!!!! I always try to look for advise for interior design and I am the only one in my fam that takes design seriously and gets Stuff done to make it look like a million bucks😁 You are so helpful ♥️♥️♥️
So question: Can you/ Have you done a video on how to organize a hutch? That would be a great one! My wife has my grandmothers old hutch in our home and we just don't know how to organize/style it. HELP!
When we moved in, our countertops were these hideous blueish grey cloud looking laminate countertops. Yes, they looked like they had clouds on them. We bought new ones at Home Depot and they look like granite but are actually composite. Ten times easier to clean and maintain but still pretty.
I love this so much! Our kitchens look the same we painted the cabinets white and I got very affordable handles and knobs from Wayfair. One thing is it's actually not advised to store spices above the stove as heat and humidity cause the spices to clump and weakens the flavor. Best to store in a cool dark place like a cabinet :)
Thanks for the Video clip! Sorry for butting in, I would love your thoughts. Have you heard about - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a great exclusive product for decluttering your home minus the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.
It’s been a couple years since I initially found your channel, but I never subscribed. Recently, I remembered you and your videos but couldn’t remember your name 😓 After about an hour of searching buzz words from what I remembered watching, I finally found you! I won’t make this mistake again. Officially subscribed! Time to binge everything I’ve missed 😊
love all of your tips Sharrah! I actually just switched our cabinet hardware out from the original brass/oak handles to new black modern ones that look exactly how yours do after a coat of paint! I couldn't believe the immediate update it gave our oak cabinets - honestly questioning my sanity and wondering why i didn't do it sooner!! lol such an easy fix! i absolutely love your channel girl! soo much inspiration since i've come across it! sending love from Canada!
Videos so interesting, thank you I also have solid light blue countertops. Going to do the exact same thing use the marble contact paper I’ve also painted my kitchen white , So excited that I ran into this video, thank you so much, can’t wait to get this done.
Update: got the dark gray subway tiles for our kitchen- took it to a new LEVEL. This is perfect because the wall is protected from splatter and I feel like I've had a kitchen transplant. Thanks again!
I've been watching her mom for a while now, but just found her today. I was shocked when she said that was her mom. Happy to be watching them both now.
I love your videos! And now that my partner and I have our own place they are gonna give me soooooo much inspo!!! Still have to figure out how to work around the really old presses...they're typical old rural Ireland
Great video👍😉 We have a greyish-green granite looking laminate. Still in great condition and looks great, too👌 Another option is to paint the countertops. Thank you for sharing✌💛☺
