Im so glad when i read comments of people with similar mindsets lol. I habe tons of all my stuff. People goodnaturedly give me a hard time! I love my floss, my kits, my yarn, my books! I say if they dont go bad carry on! I stitched heavily about 20 years ago then stopped. When my daughter was about 10 i picked it up again and didn't like it! She was in the bracelet making age lol, i gave it ALL to her . . . and now another 10 years down the road and I am nack to stitching and bought it all again lol. Hold on to it!

I do what you do with the master set of flosses and the zip loc bags. I keep a master list of how many skeins of each color are in the bags and add and subtract from the list as I use them or buy more to replace some that I have used up. It works great! I love it when I have many duplicates of some colors because I know that they will be there when I need them. You can never have too many flosses! I also have those floss boxes with dividers where I put my bobbinated flosses that have come out of finished projects, and I always check those boxes first for floss for a new project before I get into the stash that are in the zip loc bags. Great video!

I have a lot of floss, fabric, fat quarter material, etc. and I would not get rid of any of it for anyone. Sometimes you just take a break from stitching and do other stuff. Then you get the bug and go back to cross stitching or crocheting or whatever and there is the stuff you need just waiting for you to come back to it. I accumulated a lot of stuff while I was working and now that I am retired I have been working on my stash and having a ball. So I say do what you want and enjoy! Love your videos so keep them coming.

I don't have a big stash so organization isn't a big problem for me. I used to bobbinate but found it incredibly tedious, so now I keep the paper labels on & put them in plastic bags. I also bought thrift store floss that was already on bobbins in plastic containers, so i just left them that way. Most of the thrift store floss wasn't numbered so I use that for small surface embroidery projects or small x-st projects where i pick the colors.

I recently saw a post in a FB group about this and my first reaction was feeling overwhelmed & awed at the amount of floss!😮 I wanted to advise the person to sort by groups of 100 but held back from posting the advice. It was a mother load of floss! 😅 I have two sets of 447 colors, one DMC and one CXC. I purchased the CXC one because I was curious about CXC and wanted to do HAEDS. My floss is organized in groups of 100 in plastic photo storage boxes that fit in a large plastic box with a handle. I like this storage system for me because it keeps the floss clean and safe from my cat. I used to keep them in zip lock bags this way. I don't like bobbinating because I don't like the kinks that happen but the kinks don't ruin the floss its just my personal preference. Sorry so long, I have feelings about this apparently! 😅

I loved reading all the comments to date and agree with so many….I do something similar with the plastic lunch bags…..I like the saying I hear going around ….. “ You do You”……. Just leave Me and my thread floss alone…..

You're right, you should do what works for you. I use floss bags and large plastic shoe boxes. I write the DMC number on the bag with a sharpie and place the skeins in the bag. At this point I have 6 plastic shoe-type boxes with lids that are numbered 1-6. I have the bags sitting horizontally by color number in the boxes. If a box gets too full, I simply pull out some of the bags from the back and place them in front of the next box and so forth to redistribute. If you have a lot of floss of the same number you can have more than one floss bag with that number on it. I keep a spreadsheet (google sheet) of the number of skeins in each bag. I also keep a spreadsheet of those I need to order as I pull flosses from the bags. I kit up projects using floss bags too so I generally don't need to bobbinate, but if I do I use the cardboard ones too. I simply put the bobbin back in the box's floss bag when I am done with a project. So yeah, I have tons of floss bags LOL, but it works the best for me :)

Bwahahahahahaha strong opinions on floss! I love this. If an avalanche on floss ever falls on me, you are 100% my phone-a-friend. 😂

I do agree with what you say. I just wish i could be organised. I have threads everywhere. I've tried all the ways. Lol. My brain is always in a muddle so my home etc. is always in a muddle. I like your idea with zip bags in number sets, that makes total sense to me. All i have to do now is to remember to get some bags and find all the places i've put the threads lol. Take care my dear🤗🇬🇧

I said that this is how I WOULD do it, not that it's how I ALWAYS do it. I've got project bags filled with leftover partial skeins and kitted up projects (not all of them with the pattern or a note reminding me what that floss is supposed to become...) If you stitch a lot, stuff gets moved around and used up and the organization is constantly evolving.

So true. Cross stitch and everything that it contains takes over lol. Mines in all sorts of containers so I just don't know what I've got where. How I would love a organised mind lol. Take care

Hi Michelle, I have been organizing my embroidery floss and pearle cotton. I am new to cross stitch. I discovered that I was repurchasing floss that I already had but the one good thing is I can use it later. I will continue to buy floss.

I do bobbins when I kit up a project and I store by number. Whatever works, works.

Absolutely! And what works great for one project may not work as well next time for something else.

If it’s the same post, it stressed me out…. My system is similar to yours. It’s what I do when I buy from a thrift store or estate same. And I love paper bobbins. I stitch from my master set, so it’s easy to refill and “technically “ I only need one of each color😂😂

Personally I have to bobbinate and it has to be on the DMC plastic bobbins. I can't cope with the card ones. Then I store them in the DMC boxes. I have spare skeins I keep in separate boxes. I am happy with my fairly big stash but couldn't cope with thousands and thousands..😱

I have over 330 floss. All DMC unnumbered. I did purchase a master DMC floss real thread chart. So is it possible to go through it all and match and number. If I can find that much patients.
