I just realised why Linus thinks build logs are boring unless they're special, and why he does unbuild logs now - it's in his nature to tear down and break the displays at tech events, it all makes sense now
It feel a little bit boring doing same stuff. But when doing unbuild you will learn new thing. How the piece put in together it like reverse engineering. Which you will use it in future of you build.
+TrainMasterMan "Give me free shit you earned from your job" is next to "I made a sculpture out of my poop hahaha!" in the list of "jokes only little kids think are funny". Make a budget.
The Rat Prince Did you even look at my channel? Yeah clearly I am a little kid who works on tube amps, in which can kill you instantly. I'm a little kid who can make a whole amplifier- cutting, bending etching soldering and working with mains voltage. I'm a little kid right? So your partly right- I did make a sculpture, I made it out of aluminum sheet, angle iron 32 output transistors and a whole lot of calculation and careful modifications. Ohh and at no time did I go out of my budget!
+2gud4umenglez They also sell you warranty, that's what we (PC master race) look for. They have the best warranties, 24/7 support, lifetime warranty on repairs, and lifetime warranty on replacement parts. That's kick ass, worth the "overprice" 10x over.
"Linus! We built you a PC. We spent HOURS trying to make it look as nice as possible!" "Thanks!" *starts to take off side panel* "Wha.. What are you doing?" "I'm just looking...." "Uh, okay." *Linus pulls our screwdriver* "God fucking damn it Linus!"
I like when Linus actually enjoys what he's doing in his videos. It makes such an incredible difference in the energy of his presentation. To be fair I definitely understand as to why he's not always so genuinely enthusiastic, some things just aren't as exciting as others. Nonetheless, when he's got that positive energy flowing its nothing short of awesome.
+M3TR0P0LiS Media You are talking laptops which are all pre assembled. Pretty sure Jett is talking about how their desktops are overpriced. Anything preassembled is going to cost a lot more than if you were to piece it together.
I had a Millenium PC last year and it took me a few months of having iy to realize those things are massively overpriced. I actually got tired of having a giant 50 pound tower on my desk so I ended up rebuilding in a smaller case. Effectively defeating the purpose of a prebuilt. I learned how fun it is to build your own. Now I have a micro ATX machine I built on my own that is getting a custom liquid cooling loop this summer. Still have my big ass Origin PC case which is sitting empty in the corner of my room.
+Chris Legan Lucky you that live in a city with decent internet speed that lets you watch movies on Netflix and other internet movie providers. Believe it or not, there's still people that use DVD's, and Blu-Ray players a lot. By the way, there's a new Samsung UHD 4K Blu-Ray player, that plays the new 4K movies on Blu-Rays. So, the Optical drives are not dead yet. Linus and you should inform yourselves before you speak.
My comment was directed at your comment that said that you use a usb Jack-o-lantern more that an optical drive. It did not have nothing to do with preferring USB Optical Drive or an internal one. I don't have that problem because my case has many internal 5.25 bays, just as the case featured in this video. By the way, an internal is way better than an usb one. You install it and forget about it. Any time you need it, is there. What I'm saying is that don't just count the optical drive dead yet, because there's a new one that plays UHD 4K Blu-Rays, and there's still a lot of people that use them because they have low internet speed service, and some, no internet at all. Ask Alaskans, and many other people that live in rural areas of the world.
Angel Luis Trinidad Are you from a different dimension? Or are you replying in the wrong thread and somehow mashing it up with bits from this thread? Maybe? Because you make no sense. And you are certainly not replying to ANYthing that I previously said... So...What? EDIT: So it just dawned on me that you are talking about (or trying to) 4k BluRays? In which case; I'd be happy to inform you that these will be available for downloaded as well, thus further alleviating the need for physical storage media. But as the other dude already said: Mate...Nobody's telling you you can't buy one. Just like you still can buy landline-phones.
But there's no reason to make a joke if you're early to a release to a video. Might as well say thanks for the video? That would be a better thing to do at this point.
+mat24ist Welcome to the story of most Pre-built PC companies, they go from nothing to the big thing in a few years then back to nothing as quality goes to poop or are bought up (See Alienware as a perfect example.. only they went to poop quality then got bought up)
+KyleRen 1337 Same as Alienware, well even before they were bought by Dell (even more so now). Most of the cost is all in the branding and them charging you for assembling it.
I'd be impressed if he was able to re-assemble that machine and see if he was able to get it to look as good as it was delivered. YES THIS IS A CHALLENGE!! I also want to know if you're sending this computer back to Origins or you keeping it?
linus i wanted to thank you and i know that coming from someone that you dont know this is wierd but i wanted to tell you that in when i was still in school i didnt know what i wanted to do after high school was over. i did buy parts to build my own pc's but i didnt think that i would keep building pc's after high school so my sophmore year of highschool my friend showed me your videos and i said dam that guys pretty smart i dont think i could ever do what he does well here its now may 23 2016 and i still build gaming pc's but only at a limit of one pc per 6 months because i can no longer afford keep up with everything due to money issues but anynways your videos got me back into building gaming pc's and i wanted to say thank you because you really inspired me to get back into gaming pc's thanks
cable management holes are great ! Corsair is also one of the few companies I've noticed that have well placed cable management holes. Great unboxing !
Linus, where's the footage of you tearing down this system? Your power up at the beginning of this video is the first time I have seen it turned on, even after having watched it being built at Origin PC.
+ClownFace1511 I'm not a company but I do this privately in Perth Western Australia. I build custom builds to customer specification or to do a task set out by the customer
I build pc's aswell for friends and friends of friends, watercooling etc. But its just a shame we dont have companies like origin or puget in aus thats all.
Linus please go back to the old style of build logs. Like the ones where you don't narrate it and just actually narrate it when you are building it in real time. And bring back Luke!
@4:55, such expensive system, high end, ultimate case with rgb, color matching components......and in the end they stuck in a green pcb M2 SSD. 99% of a good job.
Amazing video Linus seriously. I am part of the OriginPC Family I knew a lot about this case but you showed me up on like 4-5 different things that I didn't even know!! Yes this OriginPC is the best CASE out there IMO. Love it and love my ORIGINPC!!
+King Spankings He has to send it back to Origin. And he's gonna send it back in pieces. I think all he was supposed to do was benchmark it and showcase features, which he actually did. xD
I think he will send it back put together. The MSI trashcan computer was full of plastic snaps, adhesives and other complicated stuff, whereas this is just a normal computer, Linus could put it back together in less than a half hour.
+Lyndon Amon Of course it's possible, there are plenty of passive cooling solutions out there. They'd probably try something ridiculous to get better performance hardware though, but who knows if that'll ever work. So it'd either be a really cool episode where they build dogshit ugly PC's with home made cooling, or it could turn out to be an episode where they just get some passive coolers and put together a budget PC. Too much of an hit or miss idea maybe, idk.
Really nicely built, props to Origin. The cable management is amazing, the LED being fixed into place and solid and having their own remote is also crazy. Pre-built computers had been getting a high-end tier lately :P
+SaladFingers I think they want as many people as possible to buy pre-built computers because they know it's cheaper to build computers than to buy pre-built, so they're making pre-built computers look fancy.
The Inky Squids Well, it's cheaper because you are doing *work* yourself. You didn't expect that the builder won't get his pay check, right? Other than that though, pre-builts are kinda famous of being crapilly built, as if the builder himself didn't really care about it. This one, on the other hand, shows that someone actually put the effort and looks so professional. I've spent hours for my cable management and I'm not sure if it even looks as good as this. So it's not about looking fancy, it's about the quality of their work. It might still be overpriced a little, but for someone that doesn't know/want to build his own PC and has the extra money now there is a choice of getting a properly good rig without having a friend build it for you.
Yeah, I know because I've built a computer myself. You can make a computer look good yourself if you want to. You're right about the pre-built computers being bad though. I've got a pre-built HP and it's got a GTX 280... (insert laugh track here). It's almost like they don't know anything about computers, even though they're technology companies. (Btw, you're one of the few people I've talked to in comments on RU-vid who have actually been nice, so thank you! :)
The Inky Squids Yeah they aren't meant for enthusiasts, they are jsut machines that "get the job done" and people that buy them are used to them breaking and having to replace them. Also those people never look at the internals or care about proper airflow etc etc. I just think it's nice that lately we are getting companies that are focusing on the enthusiast market and actually build solid computers. More expensive than building one but still nice that there is a choice :)
I love disassembly videos, also Origin chose Enermax fans i can tell by the Batwing blade designs meaning those fan blades might be removable for cleaning.
This is still too much a premium to pay, its about 7-800 dollars more you would pay to have this built for you vs you buying the parts and doing it yourself. Again you are missing the "custom" items, but most of that is astetics like the Custom branding ram, case, and RGB lights. Even with overpaying for the parts, and using a similar case that cost more, it'd probably cost you 500 dollars less to just build it all yourself, and that includes the Windows 10 copy.
+ProtoMario Some people aren't smart enough to build a pc themselves, or just flat out don't want to. For those who build it themselves obviously think it's dumb to pay more, but they wouldn't be making them if people weren't buying them.
Josh Matthews I know this, but its not like a 2-3 hundred dollar mark up man, at most its a 1000 dollar mark up and overpaying for parts its about a 500 mark up.
+ProtoMario How much time would it take to create/troubleshoot this, or if this is your first build, learn how to do this? What could you do in that time instead? It's a basic opportunity cost question, and not necessarily about the money. If someone's time is worth that $1000 markup, then it's not a rip-off for them. For someone like you who enjoys the purchase and assembly parts of the desktop, it's a better deal for you to do it yourself. Not as simple as "parts is X, paint is Y, OS is Z, X + Y + Z = cost". Time is also a cost.
Strix I can build a system in under 6 hrs easily man, its not that difficult. I am personally, saying, IN MY OPINION, 1 grand mark up on a system that only has a 1 TB HD not even an SSD for the DATA drive only the Boot drive, and only 16 gb of ram, seems a bit marked up. With that 1 grand you could go buy those upgrades, and add even more!
+ProtoMario you have to get started somewhere you know? If someone doesn't have the time to read into it how to build a PC if they just want to game in the afternoon for 2 hours 2-3 times in the week.....
+Jeff Deal Yeah lmao, couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it. Or rather, didn't want to. "This prebuilt is not only horribly overpriced like every prebuilt ever, we want you to lose your data as well. Maximum amount of ripoff!"
I'm kinda new to computers, can anyone explain why a Seagate is bad? Or how you lose data with it? (I know it's been a year, but I need to know....) Please?
Elucidate I have never had a an issue with Seagate, just don't use Toshiba or any cheap brands as I have had those fail. I would only ever recommend western digital or Seagate 😃
Elucidate They are making a big deal about it because it came with a Seagate 1TB HDD, instead of a SSD. HDD's can die eventually, causing you to lose your data. So if you want to save your data you would have to also store it in some backups, or just drop the extra cash on an SSD.
Wheatley Uhm.. yeah because that metal plate with a hole in it didn't start as a full metal plate.. didn't have to be stamped or lasercut.. and didn't have to have the rubber purchased and installed.. It may seem trivial given that you clearly understand noting about manufacturing, but every little additional feature costs money.
I think that those RGB strips aren't over engineered but properly engineered. They can't cost that much more and add so much more quality to the case. You would have had to buy new strips in order to get your RGB on the correct side. The hard PCB ensures they're going to survive being mounted and moved several times at least. Better yet if you're handy with a soldering iron you could probably replace a burn out LED, far easier than if it was a flexible strip.
