Original Atari PONG (1972) arcade machine gameplay video

This is the audio/video output from a real Syzygy (Atari) 1972 PONG arcade game circuit board. There are many videos on RU-vid of things saying they are Pong, but those just aren't. Notice how the paddles don't reach the top of the screen? This is a 'feature' of the original game. Notice the game speed? its at a decent pace, not all slow like other videos.

The joy of video games is all about difficulty. This challenges us and we love from the very first time people came in contact with this spectacular medium. Playing old and newer games there's nothing like the satisfaction beating a level and move on. It's what my soul asks. After all I take usefull lessons, like patience and problem-solving, that makes actual life easier. Compared to others the strength I possess and no retreat attitude owe it to gaming, that ''invincible'' feeling.

The ball moves a lot smoother than I imagined. The sound it makes when a player misses a ball is kind of irritating though, if I were to born early enough to play this with my friends we might have beaten the crap out of each other when either side loses. There *is* a Switch version! Atari Flashback Classics on the Switch contains a creditable attempt to replicate arcade Pong, though it's a simulation rather than an emulation since Pong was built out of discrete logic chips rather than software running on a microprocessor. Also, they cheat a little in a couple of places--there's a single-player mode with an AI (1972 Pong had none), and they added a serve button to give you a breather after someone scores a point (1972 Pong didn't have that either). The same product contains the Atari 2600 version, along with a lot of other games.

This is a more complex version than most of the modern tutorials for newer engines, actually. Many of those don't take account of where the ball strikes the paddle or the direction it was originally moving in beforehand - they just immediately reverse the ball on the exact same trajectory. This version is more precise.

This started everything Without this there would be nothing No Fortnite, no Minecraft, no Among Us or any of the stuff we got today This is one of the most important things in history and without it who knows what could have happened then

Came here because yesterday "Retro Games" launched on Switch and I wanted to compare the two. Pong is actually nameless in the collection so it doesn't seem to be licensed, but they look identical - sweet :) the only difference is that in the collection there's a white bar at the bottom and the top the ball bounces off off.

Other Pong clones of the time used a 'boundary' at top and bottom to make it look like lawn tennis. It was also used to 'prove' their design was unique in court, however its a tiny difference and easily implemented on the existing design.

I'm here after watching The Daily Woo Jan. 31, 2022 video about a 1980's airbnb. Pong, was my 1st experience with home games.

My older brother had this, he is 16 years older, and he and I would play this on our Philips colour TV. Good times...

I once set it up to have the 'wall' on one side and 'auto paddle' on the other and pretended to be playing on the highest speed when my dad came in...he was very impressed! LOL

"I thought it was pretty cool. Apparently, people thought so too back then. That's why they made a home Pong console, so that people could play Pong at home. And then, there was another one... _and another one..._ AND ANOTHER ONE... _AND ANOTHER ONE..._ *AND ANOTHER ONE... **_AND ANOTHER ONE!!! THERE WAS LIKE NINE MILLION FUCKING PONG CONSOLES!!!_* " - AVGN

The old 8k graphics will never be as good as this, even the new 18k resolution won't be better I suspect.

Friends of mine paid $200 for this when it came out in 1973. My parents paid $10 two years later. Same happened to caculators and all other tech.

No nudity No violence No foul language Just one job: hit the ball predicting its trajectory. A game.

I remember everyone called this game "tennis," never once remember it being referred to by its proper name 'Pong.' But calling it tennis was silly because it's essentially air hockey. You can't hit the ball out of bounds in tennis and have it come back into play. My siblings and I had Pong, Space Invaders, Asteroids and PacMan. But like all our toys, we grew tired of Atari, when the real Pacman, Ms.Pacman, Centipede, et al were out there waiting to take our quarters. Atari was just a poor stand-in. Good times...

Modern games are too realistic. This is so simple, yet so addictive looking with great sound effects that have stood the test of time. I would rather play this game than anything nowadays. Games today will be forgotten.

Crazy to think that we went from this to games like cyberpunk and red dead redemption 2, damn.

I still have my game from 1978 & was told today (3/10/17) it could be worth a few dollars. It still works & in the original box (minus a hole in the box from the joy stick).

I remember when I played it for the first time in the 80s. It was very cool! Never seen something like that on a TV... you could only watch TV but now also you could play games. That game was very frustrating xD

YEAH!!! What a wondrous comeback by the Home Team!!! Early on, it looked ugly as the Visitors took a 2-0 lead. The Home Team quickly turned things around to go up 4. But then here came the Visitors!!!! A nip and tuck battle right up until the historic ending!!!!! We have never seen such an epic battle in the history of Sport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the fluid controls of the paddles is what made it a success. If they were moved by something like the arrow keys on the keyboard it would have been shit

I can't believe we went from two rectangles hitting a tiny square to a full fledged interactive movie.
