You guys created one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had - I really want to thank all of you for catching lightning in a bottle. I hope the remake manages to resurrect the DS universe (it looks that way thankfully) - it deserved so much more than just being abandoned and hopefully the next DS game will be made with as much love as this remake was! PS: the original DS still holds up extremely well. It was waaaay ahead of its time and IMO totally wiped the floor with RE4 which is said to be the inspiration.
I'm 3 minutes in and just loving his reactions to seeing their vision built even further. This game and the original are a masterpiece and very grateful to everyone involved in both versions.
Hold on now I wasn't expecting to see The Terroriser on a random video recommended to me. I legit just watched the Personality test video not 10 minutes ago lol
I'd pay good money to see more of the original dead space devs go through and play the game on stream or something. Man that'd be so cool. Love this game, and the original too!
Most of them worked on Callisto Protocal which was kinds mid. Also they hate EA with a passion so they would definetly don't want to give them free publicity.
@@Tallborn5 Well, I kind understand them not being on good terms with EA as DS is their child (although I got no idea what exactly happened behind scenes - I think EA wanted to make it bigger and bigger and it needed to have outstanding instead of just very good sales so it got scrapped or something). I own Callisto Protocol on both PS5 and PC. I'm a good fanboy I think. xD That said, I believe it's clear Motive are big fans themselves and I could imagine the original DS team can differentiate and see Motive as kindred spirits - in the end they (Motive) love their work and handled it with respect. But you've made a great point - there might be politics behind all that. Long story short, I appreciated this video and wish all of them the best and hope the clown(s) at EA who hurt DS back then got some of their own medicine.
@@WithGas I forgot what EA wanted dead space to compete with when DS3 released. But that's what ruined the game. So when sales weren't as high as the previous two they scrapped it to focus on other games.
@@BenBrrown Ah thanks for the insight, so it looks like they really perverted the game to fit their dumb ideas instead of letting the guys who knew how to make cool DS games decide. Damn. A classic tale unfortunately...
He touched on such a good point at the beginning. Isaac talking makes the game MORE immersive, not less. An unnaturally silent protagonist sticks out as a much less relatable self-insert than the character Gunner Wright played, who is this competent everyman. Such a good choice.
I agree. Sometimes the silent protagonist is more immersive, but I can’t stand when people belt out that argument when it just totally doesn’t fit. Isaac has always had his own face and characterization, even in the first game. The fact that he got a voice in 2 would make it really weird to not have him talking again here.
@@rinraiden when you enter the store in game, go over to the storage tab. In the storage tab you should have access to a set of armour which you can equip called the legacy armour. This armour is an asset pulled from the original game with the original textures and everything
i love how there is no salt. Just amazement at how far technology has advanced and happiness that his original work he put all that time into was cared for
@@dumdum93 Shutting down a studio he worked at doesn’t always imply he will hold a personal vendetta against them. These things happen. EA shut them down for a reason.
The original Dead Space games are not only some of my favorite survival horror games but some of my favorite games of all time. This was so fun to watch. One thing I would HIGHLY recommend is trying out the 3D audio for the remake, its the best 3D experience in my opinion.
Would love to see more off this, it's really great seeing the perspective of someone who worked in the original Dead Space so, yeah, please more of this.
Most devs are exactly the same. Unfortunately, because video games have become an extremely profitable industry, most AAA titles are plagued by corporate overreach, which means developers have to suffer through unfair deadlines and abusive work environments.
Thank you Visceral for your amazing work in the past for Dead Space. I wish EA did not shut you down and interfere with Dead Space 3 but it is so humbling to see you appreciate Motives hard work.
It was really something hearing the Dev just explain a lot of the design choices and giving credit to his team. I loved the part where he was explaining stasis and how important it was to give a glass cannon some form of crowd control. Then, balancing the necromorphs to fit the new mechanic while also working within tech limits. I can tell the dude was really passionate about making Dead Space and I’m so happy for him and the success he’s had! I would definitely love to see more of these vids and thank you to the both of you for making this!!
CHUUUUUCK! Thank you so much for all your work on Dead Space! The entire series are some of my favorite games ever! Without you we wouldn't have this fantastic remake! CaptainBribo please play some more with Chuck so we can see his reactions and more of his insight into making these horror masterpieces!
He said it himself : "I am not a visual guy, I am a narrative nerd", but the whole time he was getting excited by these little details, like smokes from the pipes, little mechanisms on the doors and Isaak's suit details which confirms what an excellent work has been put in this remake. I am currently on chapter eight and I am nothing short of amazed. The addition of side mission revealing more of the lore is just amazing.
Seeing an original dev reacting this positively makes this remake feel like it's just a continuation of the original development pipeline. The original work is respected and preserved while still being enhanced in mindful and intelligent ways. This is what I love about remakes.
Man I love this I’ve never actually played the original, I watched a lot of the game on RU-vid and watched a few behind the scenes and lore videos. Hearing about all the stories and how all these brand new ideas at the time come to light, just makes the remake feel like even more of a love letter to all the devs and hardworking people that put so much thought and effort into the original with all trouble they had to go through to create many of the elements. Would love to see a lot of these videos ❤
Chuck's reactions were so heartwarming, but I have to say his technical commentary and behind the scenes insights into what into the previous game were definitely the highlights of the video for me. Thanks so much for making this video!
So that Ishimura intro speech is there, it just plays on a loop. So it might be a black screen or at a different part depending on how long you take to walk up to the entrance. I actually missed it and didn’t remember it when I started them game, and then when I came back to speak with Anderson I noticed it and remembered it from the first game.
It is SO cool to hear you guys talk about the iterations, thought processes, little projects that became staple mechanics, all of it is fascinating and I hope you endeavor to do this format again! Thank you for such quality insight and lovely reactions!
Thats a game of true dedication from the devs who worked on it. A True masterpiece, the little details, making Isaac even move his head as you go trough inventory. An OG game. Old but Gold.
I know I'm not the first to comment this, but it really is wholesome watching Chuck get all giddy seeing the changes and improvements to the original. Just his little excited moments from hearing Gunnar Wright's voice and Isaac actually being a character in the game are so nice to see.
Hello Chuck! It's so cool seeing one of the leading heads behind the original game, reacting to the modern version of it. Dead Space is my favourite Horror Game ever, because I just love the whole "ALIEN" and "Event Horizon" vibes. "In space no one can hear you scream!"😉 It's such a good game and an all time classic, everyone who played it could feel the heart and soul you and your whole developer team put into this project. Thank you so much, and stay awesome❤️ And thanks to Captain Bribo too for making this video.
At first I was a little weirded out that Isaac's real face had changed but then when I learned that was the original mocap actor's face I thought that's kinda cool.
You guys are my favorite horror devs! Since i played ds on xbox360 back in the day i fell in love with the series and its still my favorite horror seriers of all time. Please dont stop making games guys! you're our last hope for good horror games!
The first Dead Space was my favorite game of 2008 and is still in my Top 3 all-time games! This remake is everything I could have asked for... from a diehard Dead Space fan... Thank You to the original dev team for bringing this to life and to Motive for this labor of love!! :)
I love the perfect timing at 19:54 to 20:02: "A hallway is just a hallway until something skitters across-" *Necromorph smashes through ceiling of hallway*
i love his enthusiasm, it must be great to have something you created so lovingly remade, i would be interested to know what his favourite change or addition to the remake? because they added a ;lot which i love to see
I LOVE Chuck's commentary. It's amazing not because it's just Dead Space, but it's nice insight into the game dev process and all the creativity that comes from it
I'd love to see you guys go through the entire game. As someone who fancies himself a writer there are some dialogue moments throughout the course of the game that I'd love to see the OG dude's opinions on.
I saw chuck say that the ishimura intro video doesn't play as you walk out of the kellion and seemed disappointed I wish he knew it does indeed play after a little while. I love dead space so much and spent so much time inside the world with my own thoughts, it's magical to see insight from a creator and he seems like such a nice guy :)
Takes a quite a bit to scare me But 15 years ago this Game Made Me Sound like a little school girl screaming bloody murder Because she saw a spider in her room. Hadn't faced such nightmarish creatures that was so determined To end my life Since nemesis from the original resident evil 3. Glad to see old and new school Gammer's enjoy such a Horror Classic.
It's great seeing OG devs react like that. It brings a smile to me. I honestly would love seeing Glen Schofield react or play the game as well. He gave EA Motives big kudos on the game which is just great. I also noticed that the necromorph that tries to get inside the elevator with Issac can have different models like sometimes there naked like in this clip or clothed like a security personal. What a great minor detail..
Omg! Chuck Beaver! Every time I saw your name in the credits I was filled with joy. *Insert once upon a time in Hollywood meme* I still remember my little brother playing dead space on ps3 and watching him nuke something with the contact beam and wondering "what is this amazingness?!?" Remake really was awesome.
Great video to watch I’m working through the remake now. I love the original. It’s so fun to see you. Appreciate the game that we are so happy that you made for us, remade 15 years later.
7:21 the remake includes a Game Director like Left 4 Dead 2. It evaluates how well you're doing in a level to drop in more necromorphs, add ambient sound, increase local fog, it's a really good addition that adds on a lot.
I love stuff like this. Chuck is awesome and Dead Space was one of the games that heavily inspired me to get into game design. I love the reamke it'd be awesome to see a whole playthrough but i imagine you're both super busy people.
One of my favorite little details was if you barely move the left stick forward or any direction Issac would move his upper half showing that he uses his whole body when moving.
This may sound weird, but this game helped me work through my mother's death when I was a young adult. I had multiple jobs, and was drinking heavily, but this game let me vent. No matter how scared I was, it let me be angry and stomp stomp stomp, and persevere through the drudge.
The devs in this game so many years ago were absolute LEGENDS. I remember watching the video explaining how the game came into existence and how much of a nightmare was the introduction of the giant tentacle and adapting the reload sequence of all the weapons while Isaac was being dragged by it. I really want to see what they will do with my favourite game, DS2, and if they decide to go for DS3 too.
I just have to say thank you. Thank you for making a game, that when I felt like the horror genre was becoming watered down and shrinking away from the roots of things like RE1 and 2... Dead Space came out. My friends didn't pick it up because they didn't know what it was, so I was curious and I grabbed it. I was encapsulated with the story, with the characters, the setting, the horror, and the suspense. It felt amazing to just... be scared in a game again. To jump at something, even when you suspected it. It soared to be my favorite game, and still sits at the top. Dead Space 2 I felt sat right next to it. I was like, well I don't know how they can top Dead Space's opening now that we know what a necromorph is... and sure enough, Isaac has to run from them in a hospital in a straight jacket hahaha. I know that 3 was not well received, but I still wanted more after that game, I wanted to know what happened next with this "Eldritch" Style horror of the unknown void. Then the games dropped on PC and I grabbed them up and played them again... I have about a collective of 500 ish hours and 100% Achievements on the Xbox and PC. I am so happy that this Remake came out, as I hope that it will continue to revitalize a game that is so near and dear to me. Seeing the joy on Chuck's face makes me so happy, him seeing something so integral to his life getting picked back up, polished. Just... Thank you
Truly this is a stunning and brave remake. I love how they further foreshadowed just how pervasive Unitologist corruption was with the necromorph-inclusive bathroom signage.
I love live video communication with team while you can see them. There is this tiny deatail where video lags behind actual movement of team as it would in real life insane detail.
Glad this hit my recommended. I need to see more of this. It's super cool seeing the excitement on Chuck's face. Like watching a parent see their kid graduate. The audio is also great, could use a bit more of the game's audio but otherwise solid!
I enjoyed this. Thank you. @12:13 I liked hearing about the development of the map in the original. It would be cool to hear him do commentary on more this like this.
7:50 I don't have the slightest clue about animation or game development, but for some reason my mind was also somewhat blown by this shot, glad to know its actually something special
I’m so happy to see a dev is as in love with his game as I was. My favorite thing about dead space was the story and while the series ended on a cliff hanger I always held out hope for more, hopefully this gets wheels in motion !!! Anytime I play a space game I pretend I’m issac on my way to the Ishimura, my ship in Elite dangerous is called the Kellion lmao
I'm LOVING this remake! One tiny thing I really wish they had added though is a quick turn-around button ala Resident Evil. I'm about halfway through the remake and somany times I've come face-to-face with a necromorph, only to have to cumbersomely turn around using the right stick. Something like A button + pulling down on the left stick (which I believe is how it is for RE games on console) would be incredibly useful. It's probably not so much of an issue on PC, I'm guessing, but on console I definitely lose precious seconds just turning around. That's just one minor thing though - this game is AMAZING and any fan of the OG Dead Space should 100% pick it up. I'm amazed.
