Say what you want about 343i but the showrunners, directors barely want to respect the lore-canon the directors draws inspiration from. Thank the ancient humans for that the show is in a SEPARATE Silver lore-canon timline away from the Golden Bungie, 343i and community timeline
Everything in this video is essentially community made. Unfortunately, the "creative" decisions of the show are made without remorse and they will not be making anything up to us in the foreseeable future ☹️
Rob2D one of the Noble 14 here. It's always wild to think that people are still talking about us all these years later. Thanks for the shoutout about that doc from Punny, I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Anyway, that Insignia thing is great news. Might hop on myself one day!
I think the 13 dead spartans on lone wolf are a statement of your sacrifice and determination to keep the multiplayer going, probably you guys were the inspiration for it
@@bberg9942 It's not worth it. How many people are going to be online for me to even take advantage of the restored multiplayer servers? Not many, even for a game like _Halo 2._
@@philipiimacedon8299 maybe? if you're following a guide and have the right tools, it's not hard at all, but the capacitor replacement kit is like 20 bucks, and you're not really in a rush to do it if your console has a 1.6 type motherboard... but then again if it's a lower version, you can just cut the clock capacitor off and short the circuit in its place
It’s great that there are intelligent, dedicated players that love these old games and do so much to preserve them. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 went offline on the 8th of December, 2023. The community has developed an alternate server fix for PC, but the Official Servers are gone for every platform, forever. This has actually been really hard for me. Bad Company 2 will forever be one of my most favorite games ever. It’s nice to know that it may even be playable on the 360/PS3 in the future for people who played there. I know there are other “official” ways to play Halo 2 online, and there always have been. But it can be heartbreaking to lose access to these games on their original platforms, or just at all. These companies make these amazing games and then when they make another, less people play the older one. Each iteration of each game in a series will always have dedicated fans though. It’s a shame that companies take down their online infrastructure for older, less popular games, just because they’re less popular. Look at what Activision/Microsoft did in 2023 with the COD titles on the 360 Servers. They enhanced and merged them and those games saw a MASSIVE boost in player count for console players. People love those old games. Just because there’s something newer doesn’t mean people won’t play old stuff if they can. Some people are even starting to prefer the older COD games over the newer releases, same with Halo. It’s ironic to me that these big companies that could afford to host servers for their older games… are so focused on maximizing profit that they let some of their most iconic and successful games disappear forever. Imagine if there were no way for people to play Halo 1-3, or MW2009, ever again. Iconic games that deserve to be accessible.
It’s times like this is why I ended up getting an OG Xbox again. I picked up 2 off eBay, one to keep original, and another to mod. I still have all my original copies of halo 1-3 so I’m stoked to get back online with Halo 2. Some of my best times with online gaming came from that. Let’s goooo!
The capacitors responsible for keeping the time whem you unplug the console (they could have just used a cmos battery) degrades over time and the acid from the capacitor leaks everywhere
If you have a revision 1.6 OG Xbox console then you're fine, but otherwise yeah it's worth cracking the case open and just snipping the clock capacitor out. CMOS wasn't chosen because the clock was integrated into a rather power hungry circuit and would have made the battery go flat inside of a month.
@@SpartanFlyboywould also recommend replacing the thermal paste if you remove the clock capacitor, massively reduces temp (especially If you have the oldest 1.0 model as the thermal paste it just dust at this point).
@@SpartanFlyboyhow can I tell which one I have. I bought a crystal Xbox, it works perfect but I didn't know about this issue. Last time I had an OG Xbox was when I was like 6
Halo CE didn’t have online multiplayer. It only has split screen and system link. System link can be played online using XLink Kai though. The same goes for Halo 2 right now. Halo 3 and Halo Reach servers are playable via Sunrise, but it requires you to join a modded host or for you to have a modded 360 so you can host.
Amazing!!!!! Lately I’ve been feeling so down and out because I’ll never be able to share these experiences with my niece and nephew who are 14 and 15 years old as well as my 5 year old, but this news just made my entire life so worthy of living it much more. It always was worth living it, but to experience this feeling, this sentient experience that makes us all come together and be one… if there’s something I can pass on to my future children and family members is that feeling of having everything in the world at your hands with halo and Xbox in general. The music, the birds signing in the early hours of the morning after a serious night of gaming. Sleeping in… CKY on the radio. Wild boys and Mountain Dew. Thank you for sharing this news.
Halo 2 online was so much more expansive than most multiplayer games as people forget it wasn’t just mp playlists, but - A revolutionary matchmaking ranking system much more complex than most - A *clan* feature that allowed for official in game clan support and menus
Microsoft needs to preserve Halo and its legacy titles not just by making a value pack like MCC but actually keep the original games available for all to enjoy and experience. This is their flagship game after all
They unlisted the originals. Aka the OG experience mcc is just a copy and paste with unresolved graphical issues, cheating, etc. If they kept the og games up we’d have the original menus, original customization screens and ui, and a career rank that mattered like it did back then, etc. Mcc is good and all but it’s missing so much and still has issues that need fixing along with the cheating problem. 343 and Microsoft have done a piss poor job preserving the games imo
@@wales2k4747 that’s not the OG experience part of the older games charm was having limited fps and a lower resolution it’s part of its age and nostalgia
i did my xbox appendectomy a couple years ago, it is very simple. Just need to locate the capacitor and pull it out, then clean any leakage that may already be there
I didn’t play Halo 2 Online, but I remember playing split-screen games with friends at their houses. Even played a LAN party game with a bunch of them. Would love to hop back on again soon!
After you made that last video about the Reach servers comng back on i downloaded Reach on my xbox and was sadly disappointed i couldnt play matchmaking.
There's another couple problems that can go wrong with an OG XBOX, the clock capacitor, and potentially the other capacitors on the board being the prime one(s) but the disc drive not opening being the second common one to look out for. Even on post cap plague xboxes. Fortunately it's an easy fix so long as you don't mind taking it apart and have the right star shaped screwdriver to do it with. You basically just need to to swap out the drive belt and/or boil it if you're one of those weirdos that likes boiling rubber belts.
@@taelin-rh3wi Because you can softmod without a disc drive now with the new usb only softmod. That was the only reason to really have a working drive before.
No one seems to mention that Microsoft completely lied about every reason for shutting down original xbox live. The real reason was to get people to buy more xbox 360's as the ps3 was dominating sales.
I will be hosting glitches / out of map custom games like I did back in the day :') The amount of cooperation required from strangers from around the world is a prized possession.
Thank you for mentioning the capacitor leak issue Mint, it's a very real problem that Xbox collectors are gonna have a reckoning with over the next few years, there's no way to get everyone out there to open their Xbox up and fix the problem. To anyone that wants an OG Xbox for themselves, get one as soon as you can and make sure the leak is fixed, and get the whole board recapped while you're at it. Working units are gonna become rarer.
@@taelin-rh3wi Yes. So original Xboxes have a clock capacitor built in, designed to keep track of time while without power for a certain amount of time. The problem is these capacitors were manufactured during a time called the "Capacitor Plague", where a lot of capacitors manufactured were faulty in composition and are known to rupture and leak acid. The original Xbox was a victim of this. Most people don't even think to open up their consoles, so a LOT of original Xbox consoles out there as we speak have those clock capacitors leaking acid onto their motherboards. That acid eats away at the motherboard, and can cause all sorts of problems. Some of them are fixable, some of them are not. So if you want to have an OG Xbox, definitely get one sooner rather than later. People are catching on to this so you can find Xboxes with the clock capacitor either replaced or removed, but there are a ton of used systems out there with those capacitors still inside and it's not a matter of if but when they start having problems. Call it a silent killer, because that's exactly what it will be. The more of these break, the more rare these systems become and the more expensive they will get.
@@taelin-rh3wi Most of the time you can tell from pictures, but if not you can always send the seller a message and they'll most likely tell you. 1.6b is a decent choice, but keep in mind that this model needs a functioning clock capacitor otherwise it won't boot. 1.0-1.4 will boot with capacitor or not. I would try looking there and getting a recap service done.
I'm surprised nobody in the comments or video has mentioned anything about the possible ability to mod the game. Imagine community servers with custom maps and modes. That could get wild.
Been watching this again and again cause I’m wayyyyyyy more excited about this than anything halos had to offer in recent years! Can’t wait for Insignia to get this going!
I swear we need a bungie to come back in a game awards. Everything goes black then all you hear is the halo 2 bungie opening with a brand halo game continuing the story . Now that would be dope
Ruby's Halo CE Rebalanced is how my nostalgia remembers Halo CE.. except i havent felt those feelings in so long that when i played Ruby's CE earlier this year i kept smiling and feeling like a kid again. Im not joking.. its THAT good!
343 ruined Halo 2's anniversary with MCC and never supported it during the heighth of MCC's popularity. This feels like an actual Halo 2 anniversary and I can't wait to play it.
I wasnt even born when halo 2 came out, so i hope i can experience it somehow with the reboot. If not then I'll just get master cheif collection and play campaign haha.
I gotta get my original Xbox fixed I think it might be the capacitors but and get a new controller I'm gonna be playing H2 like I'm coming home from school and grabbing a controller to play with my uncle online once again
The ONE other game that has a community like halo is WoW, in my opinion those 2 games have the craziest/greatest communities ever. I was a part of the WoW community back when the first game came out until 2011-2012 and I started playing halo right before infinite came out, I literally played all the master chief games 4 days before infinites multiplayer came out and the community welcomed me with opened arms and loadet BR's..... I LOVED IT
Good thing I still held onto my copy of H2, but refurbished OG Xboxes are going for a lot of now because of Insignia. At least we still have MCC and Project Cartographer as alternatives if we want to relieve those H2 memories.
I don't have the copy, but can I run the original Halo ce and Halo 2, 3 on series x (not the masterchief collection), by buying the discs or can I purchase online (only the originals)
So, question, cause there’s some conflicting information in this video: Is this the original Halo 2 as it launched in 2004, or is this the final build of Halo 2 as it was when it ended in 2010? You mention both, but as I’m sure you know, there were some major changes over the games life. The DLC, rebalances to melee, fixing sword lunge, superbounces, etc. which version of Halo 2 are we getting with Insignia? Original or rebalanced?
