It came with the fixes for animated bitmaps, not lighting as mentioned in the video. There's a few discords dedicated to finding all the broken animated bitmaps so it's actually pretty well documented, but if your only source is RU-vid, then you would miss it since most content creators aren't super hardcore with original Xbox.
Because it was never there. I'm not sure why he straight up made that one up. Maybe it's some kind of joke or a way to catch other people copying the points from this video? No idea.
@@sirbirbton i dont know if you are joking or not, if you are then its not really funny ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JNrUqg7E_48.html I found a video with the original halo ce health pack glow in it. It is not fake.
its amazing how small details like bumpmapping can give new life to a 20 year old game, hopefully they show halo 2 some love since theres still bugs in it that were carried over from the vista version
Postums was asking today about issues we would liek to se fixedd on halo 2 mcc, did same this a little before the bugfixes for graphinal issues on ce were announced
The funny thing is, that this isn’t even necessarily “breathing new life” into it. It was what it was when it came out in 2001, but was unintentionally downgraded when it was ported for PC and then ported to MCC.
@@buklau837 Yes and no. I was watching his video, and as I was watching I was thinking of how Halo PC looked like a Half-Life 1 era game (late 90s) and looked of this century after the fix. As I was thinking it, Late Night Gaming said the phrase. So yes, and no. Quote is from Late Night, but it is in agreement with what I already felt.
This is great, really the only major thing missing now for MCC to be able to be called the absolute definitive classic Halo experience is the original credits sequences and maybe a way to view the original menus and loading screens.
I remember I wrote a shitty review for Halo Reach due to that awful menu's, which ruined much of the games atmosphere. Same goes for most of the other games, and at the time of review the connection was ass and still the season system is dookie cheeks.
@CCSconnor id have to agree that the menu layout of MCC is poorly thought out and I miss the original menus from the OG games low key. I feel like there’s a good way to incorporate them
I hate trying to get people into the games when their first impressions are ruined because of the loading screens that shows what the upcoming level looks like. A remastered version of any of the original trilogy's loading screens would be great
@@brightenblack207 the original games utilized loading screens very infrequently. They, even Halo 4, utilized a technology that allowed them to go seamlessly from 1 level to the next with just a black-screen. This technology was lost for Halo CE's and 2's PC ports, probably got rid of it for Halo 3 and 4 for consistency.
That's because it doesn't. I'm not sure why he straight up made that one up. Maybe it's some kind of joke or a way to catch other people copying the points from this video? No idea.
Best comparison shots I've seen so far for the patch! Can't wait for the changes, can't believe we are finally getting these fixes after so long. Really cool of 343 to do this for such an older game.
This is truly great! Not only are they fixing the OG textures, but IMPROVING upon them, as well. Man, 343 came a long way. Here’s to more W’s in the future!
Nah, I don’t think the textures are being improved as much as MCC is just running at a higher resolution than OG Xbox so smaller details can be resolved.
It's just nuts that they went back to fix these details that maybe only 10% of the playerbase would have noticed, but very much appreciated. This really does show that 343 cares when they go and do this kind of stuff.
@@TruePacifist201 to be honest it looks more like Gearbox received unfinished source code before everything was ready same thing happened with Mass Effect 2008 pc port BioWare gave Demiurge not final source code so any changes that were made after this never were made in PC version i think it would be possible to fix this in updates but well at least modders fixed some od PC port problems of Mass Effect.
Felt like a new game, had recently been playing CE before the update (par times and score) so when I came back to it the next day it was immediately noticeable which was pretty cool
Didn't know they did this...I stopped playing through it, because something seemed off. I thought it might have been nostalgia...but I can see it wasn't just that lol
Eh, maybe. While the original PC port was handled by Gearbox, I believe I heard changes to the layout of multiplayer maps were choices Bungie made for the sake of “balance”. On the other hand, bringing in the Xbox versions of maps as alternatives could be quite nice. Call them “Battle Creek 2001” and “Battle Creek 2003”, or something.
Oh yeah and there are additional 2-way teleporters on Sidewinder in the Gearbox version, which honestly makes the map better. Makes foot-based combat more viable.
I was waiting for this and also was waiting for your comparison and I'm impressed i know about this already but you showed everything that was fixed very great video.
As a person who began his Halo journey with Halo 1 on PC many years ago, some of the details here are stuff I never even imagined. Like those doors and the health pack lights. Very thorough and well made video. Keep it up!
I played so many years on halo custom edition that I never realized how different it was to the original xbox, especially with those forerunner doors. I always remember them being shiny and clean.
Great video. You have the best screenshots I've seen on youtube yet for how massive the bump mapping fixes look in-game as well as a much deserved look at the smaller effect fixes that somebody at 343 put time and effort into fixing. Outstanding.
This is a great video! Much more comprehensive look at all the changes. There are a few here I didn't even knew existed like the glowing health packs! The gearbox version has really tainted our memories of the game. It deserves this treatment and thanks to the devs for putting in these fixes. Did pretty well but there's still much work to do for CE and other games especially Halo 2!
An absolutely amazing excuse for me to play through CE again! Halo 1 was the first game that I ever played and beat. Unfortunately, it was Gearbox's PC port of it, so I was never really able to experience the changes or differences between the Xbox and PC versions. However, I've played the latter so many times over the years that I feel confident in being able to pick out the differences as they appear. Can't wait for Season 7 so I can see what I missed out on!!
Gotta give 343 props. They're now doing their best to get Halo CE as close as to the Xbox original as Bungie made it as they can. It's good to see they're giving this the love it deserves. Even though I didn't play the OG Halo CE, I still want to feel the nostalgia for the original when playing with the classic graphics on MCC. And them fixing these issues help me get closer to that. Although there are still some things to fix, they're doing a great job.
343 have done such a 180 since MCC and Halo 5 first came out! I never knew there were differences between the two but the fact that 343 wants to make it more like the OG is so nice of them!
When you were showing the window comparison... THATS THE POWER OF WINDEX! 😆 Great comparison here! Outstanding editing and detail! This is looking great and it's great to see all the effects back and faithful to old CE!
Thank you so much for a comparison of the fix! Now here’s is the more interesting question we should be asking. Since Halo CEA on MCC is built on Halo Custom Edition from Gearbox, and since Custom Edition mods work just fine in CEA on MCC, could we, the community, now not take the game files from from the old Gearbox PC port of Halo and replace it with the updated and fixed Halo CEA files from MCC? It should in theory be very much possible to backport the fixes from 343i to Halo 1 PC and Custom Edition. Thoughts?
I imagine it might be possible through modding since the fixed graphics will also be on PC and anyone can take a look at the changes vs. the custom edition if the files are compatible. Right now you can drop Custom Edition maps into the MCC so I imagine someone could work on this, although with the MCC now slowly becoming the modern way of playing Halo in general, I think the Legacy will be left in the dust pretty soon and I doubt anyone will care to do any backporting. Will be left up to the community to decide if they are interested in doing something like that.
Yewlyn is right. These are engine level fixes. In fact, you can do the opposite of what you are suggesting and take Custom Edition maps and import them to MCC, and have the fixes apply.
@@bryanthinton Right that’s the point. The changed are engine level and CEA on MCC uses the SAME ENGINE as the Gearbox Port uses. Therefore, MCC has a version of shader_transparent_generic that was broken all these years that has finally been repired. So it should be possible to retrofit the fixed Shader_transparent_generic file to the old Halo 1 PC, which still has the broken Shader Transparent Generic.
@@Finger112 Well the creators of the old Halo Refined mod who spent years of sweat and tears trying to work around the broken code finally has an incentive to tackle the problem head on, if only to complete the project they started, and say they finished what they started and their mod is available for those who wants to enjoy the historic version of Halo 1 PC, or heck it will give owners of the og Halo on older retro PCs that in no way could run MCC a way to play Halo the way it was meant to be played.
I had no idea how many things were not working properly in CE's PC port. I knew somethings weren't working, but this is a substantial amount of things that got screwed up. Glad to see that they are being addressed for MCC. It shows that 343 cares a lot about preserving the image of the games graphics.
Love the video. Hope you do a comparison of all of the other levels when season 7 officially comes to the MCC. Hell, maybe even a comparison of the multiplayer maps.
You know, even old games can look pretty decent. You might not consider CE a good looking game with how old it is but when you sit back and look at some of the details like this you can see some nice looking sights shine through.
In the Gearbox PC Port I remember that editing a .txt file in the game, adding a line under our video card model, could fix this bumping effect, and also the glowing effect when the spartan is invisible.
The fact that they're actually going back and fixing these small things means there are people over at 343 that do care. I believe at this rate they're working on it game by game, so maybe we will eventually get graphical fixes for Halo 2, I need my low-res trees in New Mombasa!
Wow this is incredible outstanding video @why I really appreciate you making a clear comparison between the games and including the Original Xbox version in the comparison as well, and I think it’s worth noting that I now have a new found respect for 343i, it’s just very unfortunate it took them 7 years before even considering to fix the game. Nevertheless I’m so stoked for this update once it finally releases!
One of the little things that always irked me about MCC's version of CE is the pitch of the beeping heard constantly from Jenkins' video recording in 343 Guilty Spark. They decided to turn the pitch down for some reason when there was no need to do so a far as I know. Dunno why a little thing like that gets to me.
I first played CE in 2015 and have played it numerous times since. Can't wait to experience it again in it's true glory. The insider version looks so great. Hard to believe the original version had some much detail and how much the gear box port messed up.
What about the light bridge effects? The large light bridge on Halo had a ripple effect when you would walk or drive across it in the Xbox version of the game. That effect has been absent in MCC and it so happens to be the only missing thing that I personally noticed while playing MCC.
THE HEALTH PACKS GLOW?!?! I played Halo when it first dropped on the Xbox, but I guess I never noticed because our box tv was pretty small, but that seeing this is great haha
The short flashlight (using it on PoA) and the jackal shields were the only things I ever was bothered by in MCC. Pretty sweet changes all around though, even if I ever noticed what was missing.
The blood splatter not being bugged the shit out of me that was one of the few bugs I recognized on my own. I'm so happy that is being fixed. Once it's fully in mcc I'm going to replay ce
A lot of these fixes are nitpicks, but nice to fixed. All except shields not turn red. That is an important gameplay detail and is intergral part in a tutorial. Without it, the tutorial is broken
something interesting is that the dub of halo reach from MCC and from Xbox 360 are different, atleast in spanish. not everything is diferent but the scream of noble six when dies is not the same, some marines has diferents voices.
I think the Master Chief MJOLNIR wear texture is a little too intense on the Insider flight. Yeah, it was in the original, but I don't think it was intended to be that apparent.
I think it has more to do with the resolution the game runs at now compared to back in the day. A lot of old games gain more clarity and sharpness to that sort of details when running at higher resolutions. A quick example for this would be the original Red Dead Redemption. When running at 4K on Xbox Series X, you can see a lot more details on John Marston, his clothes and the world itself. And the game is running the exact same assets and code as if it was running on a vanilla Xbox 360.
What about the assault rifle recoil animation? In MCC is almost completely broken, it just pull back when firing, while in the original version it also recoil in multiple directions
I still can't unsee the white line between the map and the skybox (for example at 4:46). Drives me crazy. If it was some kind of technical limitation, they could at least have coloured it differently
i played halo on og xbox when I was 6. Never really noticed these details were missing on mcc since it was such a long time between it and when I played on og xbox, but watching this video it all just seems familiar again. The only one I was suspicious of was the covers and jackal shields not turning red. And after a while on MCC I just accepted that maybe I was just confused. But I was remembering correctly all along
Really excited for this, im introducing halo to my best friend from germany and her little sister. Time to put the campaign on hold and wait, weve only done 2 levels
I grew up playing Halo CE on my windows 7 pc and christ I didn't know it lacked all of this stuff. I know it says MCC but I know shields didn't turn red or Cortana changing colors when I was a kid
The visuals of the assault riffle got corrected aswell? (in PC version looks like all flat, and in XB original, it looks like polished, actually made of metal)
This is the first time I've seen such an extensive comparison with like for like shots between CE PC and Xbox. Never even knew about 3/4 of these. Did they add back in the missing tree sprites and stuff around the swamp? I always thought the Pelican in CE PC looked like had been burned.
Wow. It’s sad to think that the Gearbox port had infected and tainted our memories... I totally forgot about the glowing Health Packs, but I always remembered the teleporters for example.
Tbh I have left Halo long ago but I'm really impressed that after all these years they fixed these bugs and I wasn't expecting that to be sure. Tho they still have a lot to go to make me stop hating them. Fix and add new content to Halo 5, fix Halo 3 etc. etc.
I don't mind the graphic update but I've generally played halo 1 PC more then the Xbox version my whole life, to me it almost feels like a different feeling of nostalgia with Xbox graphics on my PC, but I'll get over it. Love the game either way
