Bandit is a Mountain Cur from Squirrel Dog Dynasty in Ashland, Ohio. He is almost 5 months old and his training is going well! Be sure to follow us on Instagram @passitonoutdoors19 for more updates and hunting pictures
That's cool!! Be prepared for some stubbornness. I didn't read much about the breed (other than their hunting prowess) so I was somewhat shocked at how stubborn they can be. He's coming around now, but don't expect a lab personality!
@@passitonoutdoors2664 I've had 20 years with them and the ones I had were not into obedience. You really need a sound/shock collar and know how to gently use it. The sound of a beep usually is enough to make them listen. I do love these dogs though.
Ok...I"m a fan. This video is amazing and I can't wait to follow along and see how it progresses. One question: (sorry to be dense): was that a live squirrel in the cage? Where did you get it? Did you let it go for that one tree training session? Thanks.
Yes that was a live squirrel. I caught it in a live trap in the backyard for the purpose of training the dog. Let it go for him to tree/chase to encourage his natural chase/prey and treeing instincts
Nice looking pup, what blood line is he out of? Have you had him in the mountains yet? He needs to get alot of woods time in, and dont get mad at him if he walks by squirrels or just looks at them he will come around in his own time. I would start his gun training soon if you have not already, but at his pace though.
Thank you!! He is out of Squirrel Dog Dynasty in Ohio. I can't remember his exact bloodline, but he has blood from OMCBA / WTDA / UKC / Jukebox / Thunder / HOF Thundersport / Hummer / 20-20 Tank / Mt. Jackson / Streak / Geronimo / Apache / Stretch / Sniper / Nickleson/ Oklahoma Mohawk-Hawk / Hardwood Georgetta / Treeing Tennessee Brindles. I have had him in the woods a couple times. He's done good so far! Ranged a little too far once and I had to look for him, but I recently got a collar bell for him and i am training him some whistle commands, especially "come/here," which he has responded to really well so far! I have not started gun training yet. I am in the process of setting up a squirrel training tube with overhead part, so once I have that done I'm hoping to start him on some 22 blanks
Mt. Jackson you say? our pups are related to each other the 3 I have are the grand pups from Mighty Mick, Mt Jackson was his dad. I have another pup that is cur and heeler mix she is doing great she treed her 1st squirrel at 4 months 6 days old. I got a video of her training up to her 1st squirrel. And her mom is from Nickleson blood too
@@jbshomestead7694 that's awesome! That's really young! I'm having fun so far with him. Gonna keep working and hope he turns out. I think he's got it in him, I just gotta do my part
