@@James-ep2bx according to the Administratum reports, there was some Warp mishap and subsequently each new recruit winds up getting the memories and personalities of the soldiers that died, so instead of this making an "Edge of Tomorrow: Live Due Repeat"-type of effective fighting force, their discipline has become sorely lacking and tactics have just become throwing things at the wall and using what sticks; seeing as how they'll just come back anyways. So now the Administratum won't do anything because it doesn't want to admit a mistake
You know. Normally. When Heretic Guardsmen have Titans. They call for a deathstrike or 6 to be sure to remove the threat. Which is why Heretic Titans tend to always be making a hasty withdrawl after deployment. After all: why risk the destruction of your fantastic machine of death on the battlefield needlessly against an equal machine, when you can deploy weapons across the entire planet to bombard the foe into submission. Or deploy units actually designed to kill Titan class war machines while your own Titan tears anything NOT a new one, and avoids contact with the rare tools used to actually hurt it. It's just intellegent. Rimmy sent a Titan to fight a Chaos one, and paid the price... Till they shot it to pieces with everything else they owned.

@@ornu01 Oh yay! I can't wait to die screaming, coughing up blood and achieving absolutely nothing with my death. Just like the average Guardsmen. You sir, are too generous.
The Cadian XXth, The Nameless Legion is an Imperial Guard regiment given by Cadia to die in the service of the God-Emporer of Mankind. The original number of the Cadian XXth was once the 86th, but to know how they became known as the legendary XXth, one must first understand their history. The Nameless Legion, back then known as the Cadian 86th, first saw combat during the Fall of Cadia Secundus. The regiment was tasked with defending Kasr Kraf during the 13th Black Crusade. Their regiment took heavy casualties fighting alongside their brother regiment the 87th. Guardsmen fought tooth and nail and gave every inch of ground with a tidal wave of heretic blood. But the Emporer's children would find no victory. As the last line of bunkers within the kasr fell, the Cadian XXth as well as any remaining surviving guardsmen retreated from the city using large sewer system that led out of the city. But the fight was far from over, as even while retreating, the Cadian 86th fought off wave of heretics as they came charging through the tunnels, eager for more blood. At the same time, this fighting was happening, the highest alive ranking officer, Corporal Rimmy of the 86th, received orders to prepare for a mass evac of the planet. Fighting a bloody retreat, Corporal Rimmy and the Cadian 86th retreated from tunnels and into the plains surrounding the kasr eventually being rescued by the landing Valkyries. One would think that after witnessing the ending of their homeworld, the Cadian 86th would have some time to rest and gain more numbers, but the duty of the Guard is neverending. Combining the remanents of both of the regiments, the 86th was re-organized into the 87th and sent to immediately take care of a system that had fallen prey to Tau deception alongside other regiments that had also escaped Cadia. It would seem that the Cadian 87th were cursed. High casualties would be the cost of reclaiming the system, and again, the regiment would be reorganized by pooling the surviving guardsmen and combining multiple regiments. That is the story of the Cadian XXth. Time and time again, on every operation that the Cadian XXth were a part of, high casualties would follow leading to their service number being lost to time. It was during one engagement in which the now promoted Commander Rimmy remarked to his men that the enemy will never know their name, for it has been lost in Cadian Blood. They have become a Nameless Legion. His men took readily to the new nickname, painting XX on every piece of equipment. When asked about why they have done this the common answer was to honor those who came before and those who have been forgotten. When Commander Rimmy was asked this same question he replied, "I'll be honest mate, did not think that it would get out of hand this quickly. But now that this is apparently a thing, what kind of leader would I be if I didn't join my men?" With every engagement, the Cadian XXth grow stronger, always adding more to their ranks, never truly dying. For it is all well and good to die in the service of the Emporer, but it is true dedication that leads a man to live for him. For the duty of a guardsman ends only in death, but without death, duty never ends. It is through this that the true sacrifice of the Cadian XXth is found. To live in such times is to be one amongst billions. Life in the 41st millennium is a suffering that ends only in death. By living forever, the Cadian XXth's duty and suffering never ends. For in the grim darkness of the future, There is only War.
I love how everyone thinks it's a great song about the regular Imperial Guards in the battlefield when it was commisioned by Rimmy to portray the feeling of playing with his Arma3 clan (the Cadian XXth) It shows how well written is, amazing job as always StringStorm
The song about a commander who doubles as a living anti air gun, the most enthusiastic commissar in the entirety of the Astra Militarum and a bunch of soldiers who often do more damage to their own regiment than their enemies.
Legends say once a Commisar attempted to execute a Cadian XXth member for heretical humor, only to be stopped by an Inquisitor on site. The Commisar, feeling particularly brave, asked the Inquisitor why he hadn't been allowed to execute the Guardsman, and the Inquisitor humored him. The Inquisitor replied that he had been watching the Cadian XXth fight, and despite seeing endless amounts of what he had judged as heresy, he saw no signs of any actual heresy. In fact, the XXth had fought with Krieger levels of commitment, while spewing enough heretical bullshit to make a Slaneeshi Daemon blush. And after the incident, he'd chosen to observe them rather than execute them, and had seen them keep this up throughout fight after fight, their wills nor faith never faltering for even a second. He explained how, after that incident, he'd started watching them to see where this loyalty came from, how they were able to be the most loyal heretics in existance. How they were the safest ones against the corruption of Chaos rivaling his own will, while being a risk to units around them as their mere warcries necessitated mass purges. And he explained, even after half a decade of watching, he had no fucking idea how these men worked. That he just knew they did, with faith surpassing his own, and nothing more on how these Emperor-forsaken bastards worked.

This is so beautifully ironic and self aware, just what I imagine Imperial Guard Veterans are like. Taking all the terrible nonsense they need to endure with a bitter smile and a laugh. Good job, as always
As an actual soldier and someone who is deeply into 40k, I love this song. The general demeanor, the snarky lyrics that take pot shots at their superiors and fellow soldiers, self depreciation, and general gallows humor makes me smile since it sounds much like the kinds of things me and other soldiers will say and really humanizes the imperial guard beyond what they already have going for them. Fucking great.
best thing it was commisioned by Rimmy for his Arma3 clan (cadian XXth) and this song encapsulates the feeling he has when playing with them. you should check his 40K Arma3 videos
I'm of the belief humanity wouldn't go into the battlefields of the far future in grim silence and sorrow. But rather, screaming and laughing. In true human style.
@@Internet_No_Body I mean, laughter is a common tactic used by the body to destress. It's a wonderful thing, and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Going down to hell laughing as you think of all the bullcrap you fought through, and smiling thinking of the damage you dealt. Ave Imperator!
The above is the anthem of the XXth Cadian Regiment, notable for an exemplary service record and being the most strangely-effective regiment to ever hail from Cadia. The XXth has been investigated by the Inquisition multiple times, who have found the regiment to act much like other regiments in all regards but combat, where they seem to act completely dysfunctional but still manage to attain their goals.
Are we sure they aren't part orc with how the guardsmen of the Cadian XXth seem to pop up out of nowhere? Also, are we sure they don't worship Chaos with how the guardsmen don't stay dead for long?
@@ladywaffle2210 certain reports say that due to certain unfortunate events, new members inherit the memories, personalities, and experiences of the person they're in to replace, leading to an almost heretical and dysfunctional unit. @@flyboy6392 I've read reports from Inquisitors Torquemada and Janistar stating that the regiment, though unorthodox and Cadian in name only, the XXth is a highly effective, if high-risk, unit.
No super suits of metal. No psychic abilities. No weird technomancy. No resurrection. Just brave mortal men and women fighting against true horrors. That's why we love the Guard.
Honestly love this. For every Cain, there are entire units of half-competent lunatic guardsmen just trying to avoid exploding until the next ration drop. Kinda feels like a song for them.
0:48 "For every one that falls/Another ten rise up to take their place/That's a beautiful sentiment/as long as you aren't the corpse they replace" This is one of the hardest hitting lines I've heard in a song... pretty much ever.
For every one that falls, another ten will rise up to take their place That's a beautiful sentiment, as long as you aren't the corpse they replace. That line, that line right there is the true horror of the Imperial guard. Such an amazing song
Initially, i thought it was Rimmy taking a part in this song singing cuz Hoctor (also the dude who sang in Rylanor's Diss Track) sounds similar to Rimmy if you listen carefully. And Rimmy sounds like Hoctor if he sings with his accent.
Fun Fact: I was supposed to have a number of additional lines in the harmony section of this track, but I forgot to mute the instrumental when I sent them to String and by the time we both figured this out it was too late to add them back in. A true Dame Da Ne moment. I'll have to be WAY more careful about that in the future!
This doesnt even sound like warhammer and i fucking love it because it reminds me of my old days in the navy tromping through mud and slog next to my squad mates making jokes and laughing up a storm.
Even without context, I can feel this is a song about true camaraderie between friends and brothers in arms, despite the utter chaos in their ranks and disastrous battles the fight. They laugh about it and move on, unwilling to even _think_ of turning away from their fellow Guardsman. They will face all the horrors of the galaxy together, with a smile.
Occurs to me that if you don't know the words, like if you were some alien facing against the Imperium, this song is rather ominous. A song of their own failures, of resignation to death, of the worst of war, but still smiling as they rush the enemy with las-and-flak while laughing at themselves. You could easily flip it to be a death-song of some strange race's warrior-caste... depending on your point of view.
The realization of the the guardsmen's life, one of realism and truth against the horrors, truly this song tells it how it is, for the life of a guardsman.
I love how if we were following conventional musical rules, this song would be absolute garbage. The tempo is slightly off, the vocals are real gruff, but it feels authentic. It is very thematic. It feels like a guardsman is singing it, because they wouldn't be trained musicians. And that feeling is on point. It's weird how something that sounds so awful in theory can become an absolute masterpiece.
Honestly I feel it's just dedication to it. If you try to make it sound like a conventional song, it feels terrible, but when you commit to the style it comes into its own far easier.
I think the Gruff vocals part doesn’t really stand up to the test when you remember that Lemmy Kilmister with his 2-pack-a-day gravelly voice was the lead singer of motorhead
It's their ineptness that makes them so effective. If even the Chaos Gods cannot predict the plans of an Imperial Guard Regiment, then they cannot counter it or use their magic to sabotage it.
So, I found this comment under Rimmy's video, and I think its perfect: Cadian XXth is the story of an Astra Militarum regiment that, by some sheer unfortunate circumstances, always has new recruits inherit the memories of the men and women they replace. Instead of a battle hardened regiment of those who can overcome any obstacle based on skill and experience, it's led to the regiment being filled with cynical arseholes. Discipline and order are hard to maintain when, knowing they'll be back later anyway, the order of battle often devolves into "fuck around and find out" tactics. That this strange, numberless, reincarnating regiment still exists and hasn't been properly filed or purged is down to several errors in the administratum that never get corrected because no one wants to admit the mistake.
I saw this back when Rimmy uploaded to his channel and this quickly became one of my favorite songs. I said it before, and I'll say it again, Bravo and a big round of applause to everyone involved
So can we all agree this can go in the Cadian XX album with all of the Digby singing moments? And if any member of the XX reads this: How much do we have to pay you to make that album a real thing?
I know and can expect there will be folks asking 'who or what is the Cadian XXth' And go looking in the comments for a response like mine. So: For looking I will reveal! Rimmy plays Arma 3 with friends. They mod it sometimes. And one day they found an awsome Warhammer 40k mod for it. One of the most popular groups of Guardsmen in Warhammer 40k are the Cadian army, defenders of their homeworld against the literal worst scum from the fringes of the universe. They tested their game, got things working, and deployed troops into combat. They were the Cadian 85th regiment. And they deployed into a area with muliple overlapping fields of fire. So everyone Respawned (because their Arma 3 server allowed this) Their transportation flew back and introduced themselves as the 86th regiment and pretended their previous deployment hadn't gone as terribly as it had. Clearly they were a new unit being tasked with completing the same objectives.. By the end of the operation, they stopped giving out new Regiment numbers, and Defined themselves the XXth regiment of guardsmen to be deployed to the task. As in their own command structure had already lost track of just how many casualties they had been taking, and were assigning new troops to regiments at random. This was initially a joke. But it stuck around. And Rimmy got REALLY popular with the antics in those videos. That is because they were really good. Go look them up.
It's funny, I know this was written for a streamer (can't remember his name), but the first time I played Helldivers 2 this song immediately came to mind
I really liked how the rhyme and rhythm in the song was just ever so slightly askew with the wording and the slightly mismatched vocals, it had this earnest and all too "human" energy to it, much like the guard itself
I genuinely love this song. This is like guardsmen looking to a beloved commander and knowing that the man will get them through the worst of it, so long as he’s got them at his back. The emperor protects.
