January 1, 2020 and I was in the shop going over automotive records and realized that the 1929 fordor hasn't been out of the shop in a year! Shame on me. If you subscribe the channel right now, I will promise to get this car out more and make more videos!

Got the 1929 out and drove the 10 mile round trip to the store and back. NOW, I remember why I hang on to this car. It is the best driving Model A that I have ever driven, and I have driven a lot of them. All original, never been restored, Concours D' Elegance winner.

I am 71, I used to ride in my Grandpa's 29, he bought it new and drove it regularly as his only transport till 1960.... close my eyes and I can hear the sound of the engine, I can smell the upholstery fabric still......

I was very fortunate to get to drive my father's 1928 Model A to high school and play happy days. It is the vehicle that I learned how to drive on, back in 1963. It truly was a blast to drive. It was about the same condition as your '29 but his was a 2 door with the fold up front seats. My sister went to her high school prom in this Model A. I am surprised that you did not mention any of the cool things about the car, like the spark advance and throttle on the steering wheel, the push button starter on the floor, the pop out ignition on the dash next to the floating gas gauge or the vacuum windshield wiper that would stop when going up a hill or the windshield that pushed out from the bottom. Ah yes, the good 'ol days of yesterday !!

@@montesa35 It didn't hit me that the A would have only been 34 in 1963, that's crazy. My oldest car is 28 and it has an old charm but realistically it's not too far away from modern vehicles, but a 1928 model in 1963 must have felt absolutely ancient.

@@NP-rh3dt absolutely right. And what's great? There are still vehicles in the 60s which are mostly unrestored are still exist on most rural or farmland areas in our country, but mostly old trucks (American and Japanese trucks, and also NOT surplus vehicles) ! not cars :)

In 1964 I bought a 1929 Model A two-door from a gentleman in a rural area east of Fayetteville, Arkansas. We towed it to an automotive shop to have it checked out. They noted that the line from the fuel filter to the carburetor had been removed and a tap had been installed on the output side of the filter. It turned out that the gas tank contained not gas, but corn liquor. They steamed out the tank, replaced the fuel line, cleaned the spark plugs and installed a new battery, and it started right up. I had a lot of fun driving it around the back roads in that area.

Boot leg Model A? That's hilarious! Now we know where they his the moonshine. My grandfather made bathtub beer! Everyone else in the Czech German community did the same. My mother's family were frugal and sober, you could have 1/2 beer. Every night! My father, an Irishman, learned 1/2 beer is better. They ate 1/2 a meal together. They shared the chores. Living through the depression and wars, they appreciated family. I miss the older neighbors. Everyone visited before dinner, after work, on the porches.

90. 90 freakin’ years old, and it still looks and runs as good as this one does. I’m trying to imagine what the world was like as the first owner drove it home. A WW1 vet was only around 30 years old. Flying machines had been around for 16 years. Electric start (on Cadillacs) was 17 years ago. And now here she is still running down the road as nicely as some new cars, (with a little extra gear whine). She deserves a little more love.

The first owner was a dentist and used the car to visit patients in their homes for dental work during and well after the depression. During WW2, the car was well stored. In the very late 40's, the car was used by one of the grandkids for school transportation but driven very little. In the 60's the car was stored again. In the late 70's the car was used once in a great while but seldom. In the early 90's the car was used to take the grandkids for ice cream. Then the original owner died in a motorcycle accident. The car sat. My (adoptive) dad ended up with it in the late 90's. I ended up with it in the early 2010's and made it run again. That's it in a nutshell.

Irvin Martin ... I have a 1929 American LaFrance (GMC chassis) that I drive once in awhile and it also drives "like new" but it's had some work done to it over the years. You haven't lived till you have experienced the stopping power of MECHANICAL BRAKES at today's road speeds! (not!) Yes, I have had it over 55 mph, but I grow weary of the pucker factor involved. Vehicles of this era are enjoyed best at the leisurely speed they experienced in the past.... 25 - 35 mph.

@@ModelA In September 1981, a 24 year old lad with a Ford Fiesta 1.1 L used to clock up 50 mph on second gear whenever he had an arguement with his mum! It did not help him. Instead, he got more mad in time!

Paul Shinn,Wow what a precious car! My parents moved from northwest iowa to Grand Rapids,Michigan in 1925 and my dad owned a 1922 MODEL T FORD COUPE.In that car there were 4 adults and my 3 brothers and sister with all their belongings! I read where the maximum speed was 34 M.P H and Route 20 they took east through Iowa was not even paved until 1929.So i would not be surprised for this 653 mile journey,my brothers probably asked their mom more that once,"are we there yet"? I also read that a flat tire was a common and i wish I could have learned more about that trip but my dad died when I was 9.

Absolutely Gorgeous. My Dad was restoring a model A when he passed in 1979. It was a light pea green and was beautiful. He had the work done, he wasn't a mechanic. He was the President of the Reseda Model A club (I didn't know that until after he was gone!). He never talked about his childhood, WW2, his parents, or anything, but he would have to have had fond memories of that car.

@@mariusmarius4878 No. I edited in the distributor lube after I got back because the footage I shot before it started was messed up. So I had to redo it and edit in. That's why tou hear the exhaust cooling.

My grandfather had a Model A 4 door just like this one, I think it was a 1930, but it got worn out and he traded it for a ‘41 Chevy - I was about 6 years old then (early 1950’s) what a shocker it was - loved that old car!

Double clutching is only necessary when downshifting this car. Upshifting only requires the driver slow down and not be in a rush to grab a gear, then it slides right in. Thank you!

I too am a viewer like you and have 600K+ in 911's and other 'go fast, low to the ground 'stuff'. I own and use a 1930 Ford Model A 5 window Coupe as my daily driver. Not too expensive for a nice 'driver', very reliable, not expensive to own or repair, and just a GREAT car to drive. I would encourage you to look into owning and then driving one of your own. Btw.....there's virtually no place they won't go. High ground clearance, torquey engine, pretty fuel efficient, you can fix most anything with a screw driver, a crescent wrench and a pair of pliers. Give it a go!

Love the car. My grandfather always had 4 or 5 cars in front of the house. They were probably from the1930s. A woman who lived one street over used to visit the older neighbors in her 1920s Model T.. It was house paint pink. The elderly gentlemen across the street had a spray paint blue truck.

My grandfather had one. That thing was a lot of fun. Black with green pinstripe was your choice of colors. No auto start and air conditioning was extra (two hoses with funnels and can in the middle for the ice)

My uncle In Mason County TX bought one to go to and from work, 30 miles daily in 40. Traded it for a used 47 Ford in 52. Drove it steady 45mph. His only 2 cars. Reliable.

I'm 72 and this brings back memories, Dad had Granddad's 29, which he bought new, Dad told me me it was a Grand La Tour, but I can't find any information on that model. It had 4 doors, extra small head lights near the front door, carnival ware flower vases on the inside center door posts and pull down shades for the windows. That's about all the special items I can remember. Dad stopped driving it in 1951 and it set in granary for awhile and in the late 60's while school I cleaned the gas tank and lines and it started dove it around. Sadly after that it just rusted away outdoors, until the late 70's, we had a storm with over a 150 miles a hour winds, it folded the vines on the windmill straight out, Dad found another good one and the person help place it, so Dad traded the 29 for the undamaged fan and labor.

Your car is absolutely beautiful. I had a 1929 Buick Marquette when I was 17 years old. Actually mine was 95% perfect condition all original, Even though I was into fast cars I loved that car, then I went to college and my Dad took it out for a spin and the fuel pump diaphragm went out and he sold my car, (not knowing how easy that was to fix). And not knowing what was wrong, he just thought the engine died. When I got home from college that year I was mortified.

@@ModelA Most of my cars in the early days were in my father's name because he either work at or own his own car dealerships. If I found a really different/crazy car, I would go home and beg him to buy it and in turn I would do more chores. I found this in the back of an tiny car lot stuck in the back like he didn't want to sell it.

In the late 1990s, my Dad started to moan and groan when he heard that familiar sound of a 1930s Ford four-cylinder engine, because it pushed all kinds of memory buttons. My Dad was born in 1930.

That white truck towards the end is the exact same truck my papa 👴 had when I was growing up. Had to get rid of it when he started dealing with dementia, thankfully he was willing to give it up and realized it wouldn’t be safe for him to drive it anymore. He’s been gone for almost three years now, I miss that man and going for rides in the truck.

Unrestored! That’s amazing. Wish I had kept my '36 Y type Ford, reg no EPH 465. Paid £15 for it in 1962.

Grew up in the 1950s. We had a neighbor and friend that had one of these old Fords. He called it the jalopy. I remember him asking me if I wanted to go for a ride in the jalopy. Its been a long time ago, but I've ridden in one!

I had a beautiful original 1929 Essex in Australia. It even had the original embossed Essex running board rubbers... I miss that car and having a pre depression car it was beautifully ornate. It started first kick with the pull starter with exact choke setting everytime. 👍

OOOOooooh Essex! A La Salle's competition! 6-ish liter in-line 8? It's "little brother" the Franklin's were 5-ish liter in-line 6's . Did you know that Alphonse Capone had an amoured Essex Saloon (even the glass would stop a .45 automatic round from a Thompson sub-machine gun and the body would stop a .30-06 rifle round)? The old movie "The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre" shows the actual car, from the Museum of Industry in Chicago. "Scarface" wanted a Duesenberg armored limo, but the Brothers Duesenberg refused to sell "gangsters" their automobiles. That included Myers (Meyers) Lansky , "the Boss of Bosses". There is so much US history in our love affair with oughty-mo-biles.

Hi! I am Kathie. I love this video!! Through it I got to take a ride once again in a 1929 Model A Ford after 60 years! From 1950 until 1960 our family car was a 1929 Model A Ford named “Old Henry”. That car was in top shape and my dad even installed air horns in it! In our Gary, Indiana neighborhood everyone but my family had newer cars. We could not afford a newer car )and of course I was teased by other kids. It never bothered me because I Loved Old Henry! In the coldest winter days when some of the neighbors cars wouldn’t start...Old Henry started up right away! Twice a year my family would travel to Terre Haute, In. From Gary, In. ( about a 3 hour drive ) in that car (to visit relatives.) We never had any car trouble!! One day when I came home from school...Old Henry was gone, and parked in front of our house was a new powder blue 1960 Pontiac Star Chief!! I hated that new car!! I was devastated that my dad sold Old Henry!! I’ll tell you...your ‘29 Model A is a gem!! My heart was heavy watching your video after all of these years!

Welcome, Steve. I bought it from my adopted dad many years ago for $12K (top dollar at the time) in not-running condition. It had been sitting in the back garage for many many years. I am the third owner. It does have an interesting and somewhat sad history, but I think it would make for a very boring video.

Oh, yes. Of course. I'm sorry for my confusion. It took 3 tries for the paint shop to match the MAFCA color chip for Hessian Blue. The PPG and Dupont codes are incorrect.

Yes. 50 MPH in this car gets your blood pumping. A '40 Ford is an entirely different car, my friend. Really wish I had one! I'd drive the wheels off of it!

@@ModelA 50 mph was plenty fast for the primitive roads we drove on back then. It takes me an hour to drive 12 miles in heavy rush hour. I see BMW's with 400hp in the lane next to me crawling along. Your 1929 Model A and a modern high performance car would arrive at their destination at the same time. How's that for progress!
