Jedi academy has a fun mod called "movie battles 2" on pc for its multiplayer. I think you would love that mod. It is insane, glad to see that you love this game like so many others do! I would highly suggest trying out this mod on PC!
Once Halo 2 gets support, I'm gonna buy an xbox. I never got to experience Halo 2 online on my xbox when i was 10 or 11 or so, and I'd explore the maps myself thinking about how cool battles of 10+ people would be. I once went to my friends house and hid dad was playing halo online and I got to play for 30 minutes and it was crazy to play with other people online. The max players I ever had was 4 (at my house on a 30in CRT TV) and the thought of online play, even 8 player system link, was an absolute dream for me as a kid
According to the Insignia devs, The following games will be available on Insignia from Monday 5th December: - Auto Modellista [CC-014] - Carve [TT-016] - Corvette [TM-011] - TOCA Race Driver 2 [CM-017] - Midnight Club 2 [TT-008]
Something to point out here, Insignia is a huge leap not just for the original xbox, but for the Phantasy Star Online community too! The Schtserv staff and Insignia teams worked together to get it to a point where the Gamecube and Xbox versions of the game can play together. Yes, that's right. CROSSPLAY BETWEEN THE GAMECUBE AND XBOX. Hell they even made it so Xbox players show up with green names on the server!
Projects like this are quite possibly the most passionate. It's not about turning your copy of Skyrim into a Japanese slutfest, or even expanding a game beyond its original scope. It's taking something you loved and bringing it back from the dead. In this case, online communities for old Xbox games. I consider this to be the same as reviving an old MMO, like City of Heroes, because of that.
It's really sad seeing the servers for our favorite games get shut down, this is awesome to see that some random, really cool people have created their own servers to host classic games like the OG Xbox networks.
Honestly had a shit ton of fun playing GR and Jedi Academy with you, fun to see my name pop up in the footage too, lol. Insignia has been something I’ve been dreaming of for years and the fact that it’s actually out there now is just incredible. I can’t wait to see how this service grows.
Man just seeing the orginal XIII, Battlefront 2 and Ghost Recon being played again on the OG Xbox is something I never thought I'd see. Seeing passion projects bloom like this is just amazing and wish the team the best of luck in the future.
Man the nostalgia is real... I got Midtown Madness 3 together with Halo: CE in a xbox console bundle, my first real gaming experiences. They truly built the foundation of my love of gaming that is still going as strong as ever. I would love to play some online MM3, never got the chance to run xbox live on the OG and MM3 has never been retrocompatible:/
I got to play it my first time ever online with insignia, it's a blast i'll tell ya. So glad i got to use my original hardware from childhood, just wish i had my original disk lol i bought a copy of mm3 on ebay.
Unfortunately, as noticed in the 2010s and 2020s, it pails in comparision to the 1990s and 2000s gaming that we are still striving, hoping that that golden age of gaming comes back at some point in the future. But with the way the world is going in the 2020s/2030s, the future I feel is only going to get more depressing than before. But Hopefully I am wrong about it and it does turn around to become a brighter future, but only time will tell.
I played some Counter-Strike and Battlefront 2 the other day, and man that was amazing. Really surprised by how easy it was to connect to once I set the proper Dns settings in xbmc. Can't wait to see what else the insignia team comes up with
I've been playing my PS2 online lately and streaming it to introduce more people to it. I also used to mess with X-Link Kai but got busy with my life and didn't expect to hear Insignia was a thing. I'm definitely intrigued about this!
This service sounds really cool and it would be nice if someday projects that aim to archive and keep online experiences alive are officially supported.
It's gonna be awesome when Burnout 3 eventually gets supported. I never got the chance to play it online back then which sucks since it felt like the online was a big part of the game. That said it's cool Midtown Madness 3 is one of the launch games. I played it for the first time a few years ago and loved it. Since then I've been wondering how fun the multiplayer modes would be online.
Wow I would really love to play Battlefront or Midtown Madness online, it's been so gosh darn long since I've had the chance! I gotta sign up for this.
i really wish modern game devs for companies like microsoft and sony would impliment this type of system into modern gaming. its crazy af to think that theres still so many people that love playing so many classics from the 6th generation of console gaming. And also to go to such lengths to preserve online gaming for older or outdated consoles from over multiple decades now is just awesome, this would be such a game changer and of even greater significance than these big time conpanies just churning out shitty or overpriced remakes/remasters of classic 6th gen games like they have been in recent years. We NEED this era of online gaming to make a comeback!
That softmod argument has been achin the Halo 2 Xlink community since the creation. Halo 2 had unique DLC maps found by softmodding or getting the Mutiplayer Map pack, and most gamenights people don't got them. I really, really hope the Insignia team requires DLC. Everyone on Insignia has the tools needed to softmod and upgrade, please just do it.
@@ladarrylemccalpin The problem isn't finding one, the problem is getting it into the country. Shipping and import fees to South Africa is bloody expensive, a lot of times even more than the console itself.
Unreal Championship 1 was more or less a port, but I'm very much excited for UC2, which had its own story modes, melee combat system, characters with unique abilities, etc. etc. It shares a surprising amount of DNA with Jedi Academy. I never got the chance to play it online, it never released on any other platform, and I'm hoping it gets Insignia support.
Unfortunately, I think the issue with XIII is more widespread than just that game. Both Unreal Championship 1 and Whacked are noticeably laggier over XBL than system link (Whacked is also likely missing the dodgeball mode over XBL due to this). Ghost Recon 1 also has a lower XBL bandwidth limit though this mostly manifests in lower player limits compared to system link rather than any notable lag. I've also had others tell me that Conker and Jedi Academy suffer from similar issues. I'm a little skeptical that Republic Commando's going to play better over XBL than system link. PC is probably the way to go for large player count matches in that.
@@FingerinUrDaughter What official modem? There's an ethernet port built in to the console. I'm not accusing you of lying by the way, you're probably just misremembering something.
@@FingerinUrDaughter No it required broadband internet. In fact the full product name on the box for the Xbox live wireless adaptor is "Microsoft Broadband Networking Xbox Wireless Adaptor".
I’m not tryna to sound rude or anything but why is raids shawdow getting sponsored so much the game is ass never downloaded and like half my school hates it.. it felt like add watching it again..
This is a really well put together video! I currently have all of the supported games downloaded. But I haven’t been able to play much because I’m pretty much only able to play late at night and the servers are dead
Oh my gosh, this is amazing. I actually remember getting XBL for the first time on the original Xbox and it was such a revolutionary thing looking back at it. Midtown Madness was my dig, the party games were so fun and that game was so simple yet so amazing!
Halo 2 and NFS Underground 2 are the two I want to be added to Insignia, both are top 10 games for me, not just for Xbox but for all time. Once those titles are added I'll jump right into this. Also a legit Raid Shadow Legends sponsor spot? lol nice meme.
Such a bizarre concept to me, playing games online in this era. I'm 28 and I never even played an online game til 2017. Tbf tho, during the ps3/HS era, when that first became popular, I was busy hanging out w friends, and losing my virginity and stuff.
Hopefully we can connect emulators to it soon. These systems aren't getting any younger and having to buy an original XBox and games to experience the multiplayer is a pretty steep bar.
Are there any plans to get old and defunct xbox 360 games running again? the skate 1 servers we're taken offline in august 2011. i'd love to have that back online.
Thanks for making this video. I had no idea about insignia and have been collecting for the OG xbox for the past year or so. There have been so many games I have booted up and wished I could try the mp, and it looks like I might actually get a chance now.
If NFSU2 and Burnout 3 come online, I’m gonna dust off that softmodded beast Xbox with the additional RAM. Kacey, any idea how that console might behave online with the extra RAM enabled?
Hmm, I’m gonna imagine that it will work fine if the game in question doesn’t break with the extra ram- though framerate differences may cause sync issues, not sure about that but it seems like a possibility
Honestly I'm really tempted to call my grandmother to send me my Xbox she has in Chicago, to my house here in Jacksonville. I really hope they work around to halo ce and 2. But I'm satisfied enough with what they have listed to bring back the old feelings of playing online with a big ol Duke controller in my hands.
Halo CE never had Xbox Live support, so you may be waiting a loooong while for that one ; ) As for Halo 2, that one is going to be a while. Like Kacey said in the video, it requires pretty much all of Xbox Live's services on top of whatever custom services Bungie used. It *is* coming though. Just not any time soon.
BRO WHAT?! I had no idea this was a thing in the works! My old Halo 2 days could possibly be making a comeback?! Super bounces in Team Snipers. Classic custom games. Breaking out of Sanctuary. Old modded parkour maps on Relic. Oh man, I can only imagine. 😭
Y’know I’ve been wanting to ask this for possible sometime now. Is it possible to use the og Xbox live commutator so that you can talk to players while playing including changing the voices In different games?
Might have to do this for my og Xbox. I still have my old copies of games such as MechAssault 1&2, Darkwatch, and Halo 2. Once support for those games get added, I'll have to look into getting this all set up.
star wars BF2 was such a great game online during that era! i remember as a kid i figured out a game setting glitch where it would confuse what load and you could play jedi vs jedi only. i wish i still had my old VHS tapes. my brother hooked up a VCR to the xbox and we could record our gameplay over used tapes but you would have to rewind the tape from the start and hit record. we taped over the first movie of "BLADE" of a halo 2 glitch we figured out lmao! good ole times
PLEASE add sports titles! You can start with ESPN NFL 2k5 and MVP Baseball 2005. I know all you nerds out there love your shooters and rpg's, but lets get some dang sports titles up and running!! 😲😲😲
Good evening from Great Britain! I was Mr Snrub on Xbox Live 1.0 and 17 years after getting my Xbox 360 I’m still heroinahalfshel on the present Xbox Live. This Xbox Live 1.0 revival sounds great but I have no idea how to connect an OG Xbox using a modern internet connection since we connect almost every device we use over wifi now. However, you folks seem to know something and surely Ethernet is still being used, since in more recent years, we got revised Nintendo Switch and Apple TV systems which introduce Ethernet support! I would also like to be able to prolong my OG Xbox’s life but replacing the hard drive requires modding your system and going through many hoops I can’t comprehend (learning disability). I would like a mod that lets me keep the stock dashboard. However, I would like to, if you know and/or know someone who can create (a) mod(s) that would: - allow one to play import games on your domestic console - edit content in certain games that’s now deemed taboo, even if the game in question doesn’t support Xbox Live What do I mean by the latter? One of my favorite games as a teenager was Need for Speed Underground. The Xbox version has no online play but the PS2 version does. I would like there to be a fan patch that I can sideload into this game that changes the Lostprophets car, one of the game’s Nissan Skylines, to a design of your choice. Why? The lead singer of the aforementioned alternative metal band is a CHILD SEX OFFENDER! I know one of their songs is in the game and you can turn THAT off using the EA Games Trax menu (also the case with NFL Street 1) but for the game to also feature a band-branded car is a major red flag! If a fan patch can be made to put things right, I would be grateful.
I hope that once those great tech geniuses who are making this get enough games for the original xbox, they start looking into the 360 as well. Imagine seeing all those sleeping avatars being awake years later. CLASSIC MW2/HALO LOBBIES AND THE INSANTY THAT INSUED! Please I don't really don't like to ask like this, but if you could pin this or at least give it a lot of likes maybe the people who are working on the system can see this and we can all have true social fun like in the past for newer/older generations! I truly want to see everyone have fun with their friends and randoms again. Thanks for the amazing video and good luck with your channels
One of the best things about Insignia is the fact it supports Xemu too (as long as the game itself plays okay in the emulator and your specs are up to snuff).
That's amazing. I thought this was cool but I didn't think I'd get to try it since I don't have much interest in owning the actual hardware and discs but I fucking LOVE emulation. Gonna set this up tonight.
damn, It's already been 10 months? I remember making a video on my channel making my account and playing Street Fighter and Cod Finest Hour for the entire launch week, Time flys.
When it comes to patches I'm not sure if it's entirely illegal to redistribute code patches. Using the fact you can pull patch files from sony's servers without any issue. I think you might have a point on paid content like map packs.
I know there is probably no way the stars will align this way, but I'd love to see some sort of open source hardware to map devices to emulate the Steel Battalion controller. It was always a dream of mine to play it online, but trying to get ahold of the original controllers is a costly, and rare endeavour.
Ayo I made a cameo in that Midnight Club clip near the end! I was very excited to try out Insignia. However I am also limited to playing on Xemu rather than official hardware, and I felt really stupid at trying to setup the dashboard on Xemu to get everything going. I'm utterly useless when it comes to FTPs and stuff like that. Anyway, I'm really hopeful for the success of Insignia and am personally very looking forward to Juiced and Burnout.
I am very glad that the Insignia project is still developing. Xbox Live is the first true online gaming service out of the box in the world. Looking forward to when people can play Halo, Project Gotham Racing 2, Conker: Alive and Reloaded, Counter Strike, Star Wars Battlefront, Crimson Skyes and many other games again using the very first version of Xbox Live. Xbox Live has historical significance for gamers around the world. I think Microsoft could support this creativity of real Xbox fans. I hope that in the future Xbox 360, Xbox One Xbox Siries X or S players can also log in to Insignia and play Halo 2 thanks to backwards compatibility!
Star Wars Jedi Academy is on XBL? I didn’t even know that had online capabilities back in the day. The Battlefront games always had online issues - regardless of connection strength. My wish list: Rainbow Six 3, Black Arrow Ghost Recon, Island Thunder, 2, Summit Strike Carve Halo 2 Counter Strike Crash ‘n Burn How do updates work? I know the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games had a ton of mostly free maps and updates. If someone didn’t have a latest update - they wouldn’t be able to play. My unmodded Xbox would have the latest maps and updates as I played these games up until the last day of the original service.
I'll need to buy myself an original xbox to try this again. I've been asking for years for one more night of Halo 2 chaos. I know it's not available right away in the beta but in time I'll get that last night.
