Portland and Seattle have represented the west in MLS cup four years in a row!!!

Timbers v Sounders is the only legit soccer rivalry in the United States. Everything else is a cheap marketing gimmick.

Probably gonna get a bit of hate because of this but despite being a Sounders fan, I respect the hell out of the Timbers Army. The love they have for the team, the chants, the tifos and flags, the log and songs traditions, I love it all! The 2015 MLS cup was the first one I got the chance to watch (I live in Europe so timezones are a problem) and honestly, despite obvious not liking the fact the Timbers won, I still enjoyed the hell of that game and respected the passion that some Timbers players showed. So Portland, I hate your team but I respect your Army and their passion for the team and the sport overall. Shoutout Timber Jim and Timber Joey, respect to both of them too!

The only times I have seen Centurylink Field open up all their seats is when the Sounders host matches against Portland and Vancouver, and hosting the MLS Cup against Toronto, for the third time ( first two were in Toronto).

This goes back to the 1970's NASL.

If you acknowledge that this rivalry has history going back to the '70's, then you HAVE to acknowledge that Seattle has FIVE league titles and Portland only has 1. Seattle has 2 A-League titles, 2 USL titles, and 1 MLS title. Portland ONLY has 1 MLS title. So no, Portland weren't first to win the league. Seattle was, between these two clubs, and Vancouver was the first Cascadia club overall to win a league title when they won the NASL title. You can't pick and choose which parts of history you're going to acknowledge and which parts youre going to ignore. If you acknowledge the footballing history in Cascadia, and not just the MLS history, then Seattle is the far more dominant club.

Portland claims 2 Cascadia Cups during seasons Seattle didn't even play, and they're still in last place with Seattle and Vancouver having a legit 6.

It's a big rivalry in MLS, but idk about North America. I'd say there's more passion in derbies in Mexico and central America. It's a little more intense in those parts than just middle fingers and sandwiches being thrown

As an Atlanta fan I think the real rival for Atlanta is new York red bulls not Orlando just cause the idiot bulldogs are rivals with Gators don't mean we're rivals with every Florida team in any sport, red bulls are always a rival since day one on Atlanta's opener
