Review of the Petsafe, Original Drinkwell Fountain without the water reservoir. I bought this to encourge more water intact for my cats and to try to stop the begging at the bathroom faucet.
Candy loooves to drink running water from the faucet and it can get really annoying... The stream on this fountain appeals to her sense of fresh falling water from a faucet. With the fountain and by ignoring her begging at the sink, Candy has stopped begging for the faucet within 1 month! Yay!
I also catch Candy drinking from the stream over the other two water bowls and quite frequently. Frisco does not have as big of an issue drinking water, he will drink from anything, more frequently than Candy, and according to his last blood work, his kidneys are in fantastic shape for a 15 year old cat. He prefers to drink from the basin of the fountain.
I recommend this product because it is lighweight, easy to clean, simple, perfect size, quiet, has an optional water resevoir, and the cats like it! However, I have issues with the charcoal dibris from the filter running off into the basin, even when filter is changed or rinsed. I also do not like that the stream flow adjustment has barely any difference between low and high. But I still recommend this fountain!
This one came from Petsmart $49.99. And a 3-pack of replacement filters $9.99

Thanks for the unboxing, looking to get a fountain for our little cutie pie. As of now he has his water bowl but enjoys drinking from the bathroom sink which is cute but not efficient for him. So thank you again I like this fountain and the stream

So I’ve had my classic for a long time. As long as I do the maintenance it works perfect. The filter does have a taper to it and you will notice with the carbon pointed in ward that the smaller taper towards the bottom makes the filter fit better. Upside down and the top will seem loose. You can get the manual s from petsafe on line easy for instructions if you lost the originals

I am on my second fountain. I bought it originally several years ago to make sure they had constant water when I went away. You can also buy a container for extra water. It has an attachment that fits on the back of the fountain. One of my cats drinks from the stream, the other from the bowl.

And make sure you clean the motor, it collects hair that drops into the fountain.

Mine just won't run. I have taken apart and cleaned everything. I just got it in October. How long do they last? I always cleaned it and changed the filter.

My cat uses the big dog version of this fountain and the water flow has more adjustability than the smaller one you have. We bought the smaller one first thats how i know....

hello I bought this same exact model back in the mount 2015 and it's still running fine today in 2018 I almost died at the motor went out but the wall socket was not working so I just moved it to a different wall socket my one cat loves to drink from it. the only complaints I would have is the water flow lever really doesn't do much. I was hoping that when I got it that I could make it go to a trickle all the way to full flow. but when it does and it pretty much does a full flow. the other complaint I have which I don't know if this can be fixed on any water product is that the water and the plastic gets pretty slimy quick. it's about once every 4 days to a week it has to be cleaned, I haven't opened up the pump to clean the inside of the pump yet so I suppose I should I'm just afraid that I won't know how to put it back together or if I put back together then it won't run I've seen people do that before on water pumps so they forgot how to put it back together or a part Springs and you lose it but all in all the great little waterfall for the cats I would recommend it.

thank you for the video I wish you showed how to clean the pump if that is possible , I am going crazy looking and searching for a fountain for my cat I know that all fountains develop slim however i heard that plastic fountain causes acne but and it is A BIG BUT is the acne developed from the slime or from the plastic ? could you help out on this information please and thank you . all the best to you

@hani karam You cannot clean the inside of the pump. You can run water through it and clean off the hair/slime from the outside but you cannot open the actual pump. Cats and dogs can get acne from plastics. I have never had a cat develop acne from plastics. However, my mother's cat has very little fur on her chin, which the vet said is from rubbing plastic bowls while eating. And of course plastics do leak chemicals and other harmful things into water especially if it is not changed frequently. The fountain is the only plastic water source for mine and then I use glass bowls for other water. Glass is really the best option if you want to be 100% safe. There are ceramic fountains (I was not a fan of the pour power on those) and stainless steel. My water is very "hard" and my experience with steel bowls is the water damages the steel over periodic use. To my knowledge they have not made glass fountains. Hope this helps!

thank you you gave a very good explanation my Vet Dr. Gerold just called and said never to use plastic only use stainless however you are correct that glass is the 100% safest for being the least porous also i wish i can buy the custom made ones from www.EbyFountain.com but for now i am looking to buy the ( Pioneer Pet S.S. Rain Drop Fountain )) and i will be making one myself after some research . all the best to you and your cats .

probably too little water. in the instruction manual it says too little water will cause it to be very loud and when i got mine today i put too little water in and it was loud and got softer when i put more water in

Did you rinse the filter before you put it in? The instructions say to do that to clear out any charcoal residue.

Run water into the white side and out the black side. That will fix the issue.

Needs to be a slower stream I would like to see this go manual no electric motor just manual pump maybe a little platform when the cat steps up pushes it down slowly and a small stream comes out just seems like it doesn't need any electric motor to me just seems like it's lifespan isn't going to be very long but a manual pump that's a different story it might work a long time still have a filter though if it gets low you feel it up a little bit case of water 24 pack 2 68 not bad there's your filtered water on top of another filter

I don't have any noise complaints. I mostly hear the sound of the water and the pump will get a little louder as the water gets lower. But nothing majorly annoying/loud.

I've noticed that the pump does get a bit noisy but ONLY when the water level is getting too low. Filling it back up and all I hear is the sound of the moving water which my five cats seem to like. This is my third and I have had no issues with them as far as noise. My first one took a power surge during a storm and burnt out the motor. The second one had a seal go bad but was able to fix with parts from the first. The third is a backup so I always have one running while one is being cleaned with vinegar and water solution to clean out the slimy feel caused by the cats drinking from it. This slimy feel will happen to any water bowl and is just a normal part of taking care of multiple cats.

The instructions say the black side of the filter should face the front of the fountain. So it is in there correctly.

Yes I did, but I surely won't want to have no other options. A pet doesn't have as strong an immune system as a human, it's meant to strengthen its immune system from natural preys, not chemicals, chemicals destroy the immune system.
