Oriole feeders come in many forms. Some are built for nectar, others are build for citrus, while others are built for grape jelly. Which are the best? How about one that is a combination?

I got the first Oriole three years ago and I was thrilled so I immediately bought a sugar water feeder and since I didn't have grape jelly, I put out apricot preserves diluted with a little water. The Orioles lived that and when I tried to switch to grape jelly, they weren't interested so apricot preserves it is. I also have cat birds, house finches, the occasional Cardinal who enjoy the treat and unfortunately a squirrel who seems to have developed a sweet tooth.

Another great video, Mark. I'm looking forward to our first Orioles if they come. We're ready with the feeder, orange halves, and grape jelly!

Thanks, I just subscribed and watching your videos, great info! I’m just north of Minneapolis, MN, today I finally watched adult Oriels feeding their young grape jelly from my feeder. Also, i built set up a Peterson bluebird house last autumn. Its been a fun season watching the bluebird family. They use my trees, deck and house to hunt bugs. But they will not touch the dries mealworms.

Welcome! Right now there is so many juicy bugs, the dried mealworms can’t be as appetizing. Hope you fledge many bluebirds.

What would you need at the bird feeders to attract woodpeckers?
@MarksBackyardBirds
@MarksBackyardBirds 4 месяца назад
Woodpeckers eat a wide variety of foods but peanuts and suet are their favorites. Sunflower kernels are a close second.

I've read of people putting out marmalade and other jams and jellies (other than grape). Can you help clarify if any of those should be put out for orioles?
@MarksBackyardBirds
@MarksBackyardBirds 4 месяца назад
Jelly is recommended and grape jelly is usually the most available and often the cheapest. I have known people who have tried others with mixed results. The scientific community recommends only natural sugar jellies like they do with hummingbirds (only white cane sugar and water).

Southeast Asia though there are some established populations in the Caribbean.

Will any other birds be attracted to citrus?
@MarksBackyardBirds
@MarksBackyardBirds 4 месяца назад
Yes. Several species will visit citrus. My House Finches are eating on the oranges now. Some warblers, tanagers, and others.

Thanks, I’m in Maine so it’d be early for oriole’s…still I thought maybe to put out a 1/2.

If a bird is singing in the middle of the night, does that mean the bird has insomnia?
