The new spirit line by Longines is out of this world. Oris is not far behind but i will pick Longines in a heartbeat.

Agreed! I think in terms of the product and value, Longines is slightly ahead. If they were weren't part of the Swatch Group, I feel like they would be far ahead compared to how they are positioned right now.
@Not_Mark_Twain
@Not_Mark_Twain 4 месяца назад
@@watcheswithabdullah If they were not part of Swatch, they would struggle to source movements and find distributors. They would be like Oris. It's true that Swatch limits how expensive Longines can become to avoid competing with Glashutte and Omega. They also limit how cheap they become. We can't run a test, but my bet is that Swatch has done much more good than harm for Longines. (Not a Swatch fanboy. I would not claim this about Omega, BTW.)

This episode touched home.. my father used to own watches from both brands which he bought for roughly the worth of his whole month's pay($200-$400), if i recall correctly, when he was starting out on his career. Today, while i am digging my roots deeper in my career, I always find myself stumped deciding on getting a watch between the 2. And this video helped in clarifying the strength/story of each option. Thanks blud..

What a great comparison pick. These two brands are both emerging as competitors of huge potentials and are dishing out releases that grab the spotlight theses years. At similar price range they really do target a group of collectors who would struggle between the two. To me Longines do make great heritage pieces with great quality, but their company structure has limited their own development design wise and movement wise. The best they can do is probably a better value version of the big brands like rolex and omega. One can't expect anything innovative from Longines since their focus is on the heritage line. Oris on the other hand surprises more thanks to its independence in watchmaking. It has no chains from the history and is free to achieve anything that comes in mind, like the Kermit. Just think about the Propilot X. Its case and buckle design. All original and unique. That's what independent watchmakers with adequate resources can and should offer. So in short. If you want a heritage piece with good value, history and quality, Longines. If you want something interesting, groundbreaking and you appreciate originality, Oris it is.

I Agree. I wish Longines a boutique like Breitling's. The boutiques feel soulless and devoid of any heritage that the brand has. Plus I wish they did more events, really highlight the brand as what it has done in the past and what it represents. But like you said, all this is just fantasy for as long they're not independent or at least have the backing from the group. It's always the enthusiasts who talk about the brand's heritage, never the brand itself... which is an absolute shame!

I am NEW to the watch world. I don't own any of these two but that's why I'm watching videos like these, to start learning. Regardless of price, I'm leaning towards ORIS being my choice mainly because of its Company CULTURE. Being independent, focusing on the great philosophy of "Less is More" - As of today (Sept 2023) I'm leaning towards ORIS. I'll do more research and probably update this comment in the future. Thanks Abdullah for your input!!

Another great video. Really enjoyed this. Personally, I'd avoid both brands' new products because of the in-house/in-group movements as I anticipate problems in future with spare parts availability and being able to get them serviced. This is from personal experience - I have Tissots and Hamiltons from the 60s and 70s with in-house movements and Swatch Group will not service them and will not provide parts to independent watchmakers. By contrast I have many watches from 50s to 90s with generic movements from the big movement manufacturers of the time - ETA, AS and FHF and parts are never a problem. So it's Sellita for me for any modern Swiss watches. P.s. I love both Oris and Longines - amazing heritage and great designs. And I have two in my collection - a 35mm Longines Heritage Conquest reissue and an OG 32mm Oris Big Crown Pointer Date from the 80s which kicked off Oris' revival as an independent, mechanical-focused watch brand. Both ETA-powered because they predate the current "in-house is better" movement madness (2824-2 and ETA 2688) and before ETA started to seriously restrict its parts supply.

I chose the Aquis over the Hydroconquest because I like the date placement at the 6, I liked the indices on the Oris over the combination of numerals and indices on the Longines, and I also liked the bracelet more on the Oris. What I liked about the Longines was that it was a bit cheaper in price, it was a tough call but if I chose again it would still be the OrisNow the new Longines Spirit is really awesome but then I would have to dole out more money

However i am very proud of my watch collection right now all my watches are Chinese made watches, i own brands such as Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and also a newer budget brand called merkur. Owning these brands i dive deep into the history of Chinese watch making and also indian watch making (HMT). Now although my watch are worth below 10k added up but i still feel a deep connection with them and am very proud owners of them. Oris just smashed it with caliber 400. 10 year warranty and 10 year service interval. They must have some serious trust in their new movements. Noone else in the industry can touch it regardless the price. Both Omega and Rolex offer a 5 year warranty. Some high end watchbands even less.

I can try a Longines on my wrist at at 3 different AD’s where I live. I’ll have to mail order Oris watches. That’s a practical issue, I’m weary of spending thousands on a watch I’ve only seen on pictures. And when it’s time for a service I can drop a Longines off at the local Swatch group owned AD. I wish we had some Oris (and Nomos) ADs locally. I’m pretty happy with my Longines Avigation Bigeye in titanium, it’s been glued to my wrist for about 10 months now, it’s extremely accurate (+0/-2s per day), and it never stops. It’s not the most authentic model, but I like the way it looks. The reviews I have seen for the Oris calibre 400 are decidedly mixed, I’ll stick to the Valjoux 7753 derived Longines movement. In-house movements are a bit overrated in my opinion.

That they’ll actually make a decision. Sadly, these videos usually do the same thing. They ask the question and then cop out on the answer… Otherwise, great video 👌

@Not_Mark_Twain
@Not_Mark_Twain Год назад
Great comparison. I own two of both. I love Oris as a brand. My first Swiss watch in 1990 was an Oris pointer date. I value their independence, quirkiness (Kermit and the Oris bear), and the large number of special editions to honor under-appreciated Americans (Louis Armstrong, Hank Aaron, Carl Bashear, Roberto Clemente, etc.). Sadly, they broke my heart by refusing to honor their ten year warranty on a Coulson XPilot,(the online seller replaced it - but I’m not convinced that their Caliber 400 is ready for prime time.) OTOH, Longines Spirit watches are just unhinged for the price. Love my Zulu GMT and Titanium Spirit - both killer watches. And the company has massive heritage. Their logo is the oldest trademark of ANY company still in active use - not just watches. Founder Auguste Agassiz was a rock star (as was his biologist brother, Louis). First dual time watch. The Lindbergh and Earhart stories. Glad we have them both. Forced to pick? Longines.

The ProPilot X series is amazing. Looks better than the Longines Spirit line. Skeleton 112 version is revolutionary and you get a ton of watch for the price (same range with Zefy Skeleton). Pointer date also looks great. But at this category (heritage), Longines has some serious heavy hitters, with the caveat of being less daring with colors/materials. There is something about the Aquis design that seems off to me; perhaps the minimal lug presence compared to main case. Divers 65 have too narrow/slim bezel for my taste. The end result is that i always seem to prefer different divers than Oris. Longines divers are uninspiring to me. Great episode altogether. Susbcribed.
