From its beginning in 1997, Orlando's commuter rail and bus rapid transit network has grown to 30 stations, spanning 103 kilometres (64 miles). This animated video takes you through the timeline of when new stations were opened, forming the Lynx and SunRail network that we know today.

Orlando native here. Most of this has transpired over the past 10 years. Brightline high speed rail will eventually connect to the airport then tourist corridor and eventually Tampa. There’s also study of BRT from Apopka to the airport in dedicated lanes. Our county mayor is proposing a penny sales tax to fun new rail development along with using tourist tax funds for transportation services. Lake Nona also has autonomous shuttles connecting its neighborhoods and that BEEP program is being studied for other areas of town. Keep in mind, Orlando is a young metro. Our growth really exploded in the 90s until now so local governments are trying to play catch up.

While still not at all confirmed to happen (as funding from a sales tax hike is needed), there are talks of expanding Sunrail further east and south to Apopka and Zelwood. Also, if Orlando is able to secure federal funding from the infrastructure bill, they've been in talks with Brightline about sharing some currently being built and future tracks to get to the Airport and theme parks. All this would also improve the amount of trains per day and include weekend service. So, with a bit of luck, things can improve drastically here, and I'm optimistic that we'll get at least some of those promises

Never thought I'd see my City on your videos because of how small Orlando is compared to big cities. It's young and it's networks are fairly new. Will be interesting to see how the area grows over next 10 years with transit. We need an east west/ Southwest North East connecter bad.

:( This sucks, even compared with the inadequate network in Manchester, England (about the same metro area size?). And absolutely no integration with the airport or the theme parks - WTF?
@metropod
@metropod 2 года назад
except Greater Manchester is 10x smaller in area. The big issue with integration to the tourist destinations is quite simple, the theme park companies want captive audiences. I think a good friend of mine put it best. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VarWOzEzkmk.html Allowing outside transportation to get TO your property also provides people with transportation to LEAVE your property. You should do a video on the Jacksonville Florida Skyway monorail. It was sort of the running joke of the city I grew up in, but the reasons for low ridership are interesting such as few people both living and working within the system's reach for commute. It certainly makes the downtown area look futuristic at least.

Disney is in a focused geographic area with a large density of visitors. Orlando Metro encompasses hundreds of square miles from Lake Mary, to Lake Apopka, all the way down to Disney. It doesn't have a center that NYC or European cities have. Disney mass transit is heavily subsidized by the +$20 parking a day and +$90 theme park tickets.

"Network" not network. I don't even dare to ask how many trains run per day. EDIT: Ok, for a regional rail, Sunrail has a half decent scedule with only a service gap between 8:45 and 10:45, otherwise hourly service and during extended rushhour half-hourly. And last train at around 10 pm is not the worst I have seen either. Now, make it half hourly the whol day and get an extension to the airport and Brightline in the future and it would be even half useful at least for business people who need to go to downtown.
