Tie the clump like a ponytail THEN hedgetrim it below the tie... Pick up the bundle and bin it more easily.

France Clémence Fradet ...lol I do that with my knees rounding the plant...then cut off the pony tail...love how it all falls after the cut...by hand...now using the electric clippers is easy if you don’t end up cutting the cord...you got it tho...Gas...carry on....my bad...

Thank you sir. I can't take credit for the creation of the topiary...only the clipping of it over the last few years

Good vid as usual. I like to use an old panel saw when dividing fibrous rooted stuff like grasses.

Yes I had forgotten about that method...gives you more control than the spade!

Hi Simon, here's a quick tip for you, please try this as it's soooo quick. Tie just above the cut line with duck tape and another midway up if tall and cut with hedge cutter, no clearing up as it stays as one bundle so goes straight into bag or garden bin. You certainly won't do it any other way once you try this.
@jackw9920
@jackw9920 6 лет назад
Prestige Lawn Care waste of duck tape and not great to put in the compost. The idea is good though maybe use some cheap garden string.
@westcountrygardenpro7535
@westcountrygardenpro7535 6 лет назад
Yes bungee cord would be useful. This all goes into compost bin so wouldn't be able to put tape in there. Thanks for commenting on the video

...another way I refresh my pampas grasses...is a flash burn off...nothing near or over them so flame hurts nothing...all the pampas grasses...gone in 30 seconds...lol...fast fast burn off...after winter...

I use a hedge trimmer cut flat, then I cut out the center out with a saw-all making a hole,that force it to grow tall and controlled

Just came across this video as we’ve just moved and our garden is very heavy clay soil and holds on to the water in winter, I have a pampas grass which is about (4 years old ) in a pot could I put it into our new garden?

nice one simon. i divide the same way as yourself (quicker) but do you remember the other method (not so easy) back to back forks. good bit humour at the end LOL. atb.
@westcountrygardenpro7535

Thank you sir. Yes back to back forks works as well though this clump needed that bit more brutality! Hope you are getting some good walks in mate

I have a 10meters border of Hakonechloa. I strim it at this time of year, it cuts it easy and I just sweep or rake the debris and then vacumn the rest. However I am trying to thin the inside of the border to stop it growing too deep. What a tough plant now it is mature. I can't get through it. My spade won't cut it, I have a garden hand tree saw and that wont cut it either. My husband wouldn't let me use the chain saw because of the soil which is understandable but I felt desperate. This is the time to divide it. I love it but its grown a little uneven and wavy on the inside so I want to tidy it up. Any advice please.

twist a bunch in your hand, then cut, make a decent shape of the tuft of grass, divide grasses in spring time... they don't need manure!

Thanks Alex. They are good so far...not quite the grunt of the stihl ones I had before but seem ok so far. Longevity is what I need, which is why I changed from stihl, so time will tell.

when your 40 years of age, you need to plan a pension, mortgage, family - as you won't be so frisky! perhaps tendonitis!
