Oooh 'the media', I was just waiting for someone to ask "WHAT ABOUT THE GREEN SPOT" Some of that well earned congratulations should go to you Juan, absolutely amazing reporting. I live over 5000 miles away from the spillway but have been fascinated by every one of your videos. I just hope that this isn't the actual last video from you on the project. I'd love to see the odd follow up over the next year or two, the first water down the spillway and the the fully graded hillside at least. All your time and effort is greatly appreciated!

Juan, thanks for your great reporting. All along you were the ONE trusted source. I just flew from Chicago to San Diego in daylight. Out the window of the plane I witnessed for myself just how dry the South West is. Dried up lake beds, rivers and low reservoirs. I hope you guys get tons of rain but only after the concrete is well set. You need it. Lake Mead would make for an interesting story if you're looking for something to do :-).

+Cat Jefferson ....We are of similar age. I live in the north east where there is an abundance of water. In fact I sent my nephews, who live in San Diego, a video of me washing my car and wastefully spraying the hose in the middle of the street, LOL. Bad, I know. SoCal was once a dessert. It worked for a while but building large cities there is an unsustainable model with the climate heading the way it is. My favorite place is the Salton Sea (been around it three separate times). It is a microcosm of what is going on in SoCal. Respect Mother Nature because Mother Nature has no respect for you. And she ALWAYS wins.

Juan, You have done an absolutely magnificent job of reporting on this monumental project. There are oh so many of us who have followed along with your detailed and honest reporting. What has amazed me about this project is not just that physical construction was completed in a year and a half but that somehow, and I cannot even phantom how, the Kiewit and DWR engineers were able to do the necessary engineering design work to begin construction almost immediately. This was nothing short of a miracle from start to finish. Lastly, thank you for allowing us old guys to live vicariously through your flying, biking, camping and vacation trips.

Hello Juan. I would like to thank you for your great reporting on the Oroville dam rebuild. Your sincerity, dedication and professionalism are second to none. From the outset your updates kept us informed on a situation which was very dire to begin with. It goes without saying that Kewitt and all of the other contractors did a stellar job in rebuilding the Oroville dam. Ultimately Juan you kept all those affected people informed when they had so much to possibly lose. I’m sure your updates helped alleviate their fears. Well done, Juan! This has been an amazing story right from the start, and even better to follow along through your reporting and explanations. Just fantastic. The engineering, planning, and construction skill have all been seriously impressive. It's amazing to see how these fields have advanced since the dam & spillway were first designed and built. Even though the media coverage slants negative to generate attention, the managers and workers can, and should, be very proud of their accomplishments here. That's the real story and you've told it well. I hope you'll keep doing updates occasionally; I can't wait to see the site restored and the spillway in operation. Juan you have done a excellent job reporting on this. The lame stream media has no integrity left it seems. It is staggering that they not only had to wait to get water levels down before they could start, but the clean up, filling in the massive holes with RCC and having all of this done with less then a year and half. Really even less then a year on the main spillway since they took the winter of last year so if needed the spillway could be used. Just think of what we could do if we all worked likes these guys did. And again, Thank you Juan for the great reporting. Look forward to your future endeavors.

@@gonkeyhughes Ditto for me. My father is a construction foreman, seen some big projects, but they all look mighty small compared to Oroville Dam. Following the first reports from Juan on the Oroville Dam problems, than damage to the spillway and all that was following it was all very interesting! Staying on with the construction efforts was a lesson in managing the giant projects and reporting :) I'm a volunteer first responder in Ljubljana, Slovenija, had been involved in a big flooding in 2010 and 2014 as member of headquarters, have seen the problems that sensational media coverage brings to civilians and to pro and volunteer units on the ground. Juan, well I'm sure that the DWR team is SURE glad that your REAL reporting has made them look so good, and has granted you access to things that NO other "news" reporters were, based on your TRUE accurate reporting and constant flyovers giving all of us views that would not have been made available to the public. I live in Pennsylvania and all this has had no impact on us here, but I just happened to somehow stumble on your channel, not knowing anything about Orville Dam and the issue there. But after watching you and your stick to the facts reporting I became HOOKED on the whole project and have been fascinated by the complexity of how it all went down, and when looking at the pictures from the air you just don't realize just how MASSIVE the spillway is until you see the heavy machinery next to the splash blocks at the end of the spillway which makes them look like toys, and the depth of the plunge pool, and the amount of concrete it took to fill it WOW. I remember when the failure occured and I watched people write how they wanted to see the people of California suffer the consequences of flooding. And I was ashamed as an American. I hope those trolls have watched this project to this point and have learned that when we pull together, we ALL win. Great job to everyone involved. And thanks Juan.

You are so right, to have Orville spillway finished is an absolute credit to all those involved. It should last for many years to come.

Juan - Thank you for continuing the fine, unbiased and positive feedback. Your dips into the details and engineering all helped to form a more complete picture of the issues, challenges and resulting solution. Well done!

Awesome coverage throughout the whole deconstruction and reconstruction process Juan! We learned a lot, through you, about causes and effects of the original disaster, and kept us informed about how each part was being rebuilt. And we also really appreciate your literal birds eye view as well as your fine reporting assistants! Bravo! A job very well done!
