last year I rescued 3 ,1 day old kittens found under a porch . they all are alive and healthy and I am about to go home to 3 kittens that are 3-4 weeks old and take care of them and I want to say thank you because this is the only video I have watched and it has saved 3 little lives so far and hopefully 3 more.
@@MaddiesFundEducation Hi, Just a sad FYI the tiny kitten, 24 DO M died 3/2421. He never had regular fecal passages. He had diarrhea suddenly, smelling of blood (That Parvo smell one never forgets, Panleuk?) and slowly stopped nursing, swallowing and quickly weakened, SQ fluids helped, a little. Fortunately he was in isolated from our older cats, (us and the house). We believe he may have had a congenital problem, our vet has offered to do an exploratory autopsy. Possibly Feline Herpes, by evidence as he succumbed. He had received his the Queen's colostrum, for the 1st 10 days and his fecal test was Negative . I understand if you do not post this, it is not a happy story. Today we are so sad, but not scared off and are wanting to learn more. I will be back to your site and TY again.
I'm babysitting 1 week old kittens soon! I can't wait! Their momma left them and another tried to take care of them but that one hasn't had a liter of its own. So I will have to bottle feed them. I'm so excited!!!

Great information. Wish I had seen this when I had an orphaned kitten. I tried but unfortunately gave it up dallas animal control. I would hope that they now have her up for adoption

The already mixed kmr gave my 2 week old orphan kitten the runs so I had to water it down a little and rushed them to the vet Thank God it was Just the food change from mother milk to nothing at all and now to formula.

I found an abandoned, four-week old kitten that refused to nurse. I had to use a syringe. If you do that, you must be careful to come in from the side of the kitten's mouth and squeeze slowly or you'll get it in the kitten's lungs. As it gets healthier, also remember to never leave it alone with string; they can choke themselves. He's an affectionate two-year old now.
Tracy Graves rub them. I use a barely damp warm cloth and just rub him as if I'm the mother cat licking him after he's eaten. I've had other cats who had babies and I saw each of them do it. Especially the belly area. it's not a hard brush, but you want to do for a little while. At least that's what I do.
Haven't had any problems feeding our kittens. They poop just find and no diarrhea at all. They seem to take to it just find. I have no clue what they weigh sense I don't have a scale like your's. They are 4 to 5 weeks old and get almost half a bottle or more between the two of them. We do four and two. Two parts formula and four parts water. They eat enough. They start to chew on the bottle tip when they are full. They will tell you when they are full.
Found a newborn that's uncooperative as heck! By which I mean it's super enthusiastic and hasn't fully opened it's eyes so it's tricky to get the kitten to drink from the bottle because the it just keeps shoving it's face in random directions EXCEPT the ones where the bottle is. Any advice?

You might try soaking a paper towel with some of the formula and see if the kitten will suck from it. Also make sure the milk is warm enough. HI Jonathan, thank you for rescuing and taking care of the little kitten. Make sure the kitten is warm before feeding. Keep him near you and in a blanket or towel. Until you can get a small bottle with a nipple, an eye dropper can do. You can also use a syringe without a needle to drop the formula into the little one's mouth a drop or two at a time. Remember to keep the kitty on his tummy while you feed him. If you do not have a dropper or syringe, soak a clean cloth or sponge with the formula or goats milk and maybe the kitten will be able to suck it, or you can squeeze drops into its mouth. Make sure the kitten doesn't choke on the milk - so go slowly. Good luck and thank you for saving a life!

It doesn't hurt the kitten at all. We have had many kittens in this house hold and we have never had any problems with cradling kittens. So that isn't true. We cradle our kittens that we are bottle feeding all the time.
I have a kitten... its really small but not as small as a new born kitten.... I found her abandoned in the flat ... she is really skinny. Whenever I give her milk (KMR) she would poop. but the poop is like milky like.... is there anything I am missing to take care of this kitten??

Cow milk is very dangerous for kittens(and also for adult cats), buy a kitten formula for them. They're too tiny for flea treatments, just use a comb or some other natural medication for fleas, or better bring them to a veterinary to valuate the problem. Really tho, regular cow milk is very bad fot their digestive sistem and their growth.
We did all those things cause we found 2 new borns in the car and the mama cat refused to feed them,but for some reason one won't eat please and we can't take them to the vet

This feeding chart seems an awful lot for a kitten! I am force feeding an orphaned kitten weighting 380grams, he's still gaining 10 to 15 grams weight daily with just 70ml daily! Even the formula says that the maximum is 70ml. I guess it all depends on how the kitty milk formula is mixed! Please, don't give the wrong overfeeding instructions. It will really distress the kitten.

aeri park we ended up taking him to the human society because he wasnt accepting the baby milk we got him. We called to get an update on how he was doing and they told us they put him to sleep:( they told us he was to weak and he wasnt gonna make it

my kitten is eating just fine. using a syringe at the moment since she does not seem to like the bottle, but she loves the syringe. she is around 11-14 days old at the moment. I've noticed that after feeding she will start nibbling my fingers. I thought maybe she was hungry so tried to feed her again, resulting in her spitting it out then nibbling my fingers lightly. It is like two nibbles then she stops and tries again 10 seconds later. I tried google searches but only found teething info for much older kittens. any reasons why she would be nibbling?

10 day old kitten 218gr is it ok? others weigh 280gr. this is the only weak kitten out of 4. other 3 are quite huge... is is normal. should we bottle feed the 218gr one? mom cat is doing nursing good but he was born weak and smaller. his brothers and sisters fight for breast milk and he hardly drinks the moma cat milk

This is late but...Try to cover their eyes to provide a dark surrounding... Or allow them to feed keeping their front paws on some sort of soft toy or pillow so that they can knead.... This will help them as it makes a surrounding similar to how they would be feeding on their mom...

BeatrizMaria Sanchez fill a sock with rice and or a heating pad. heat it up, put a blanket down over it, and set them on!😊 all pet stores have nursing bottles, so go check. if you can't find formula, water down some milk, warm it up like the video said, and give them it! make sure they're warm. give them lots of attention and make sure to stimulate them! it's where you rub the crotch area with a warm wet paper towel (to simulate the moms tongue) it's so they can pee! without stimulation, it can become very painful. the Blatter can burst! it's okay if they don't pee right away. try feeding them some sugar water in the milk if they don't pee Everytime. (to rehydrate them) tell me how it goes!

We've just got them this afternoon, how long can we expect it to take them to feed? Hi Cam, they should be able to take a bottle right away. They should be placed in a box that with high enough sides that they cannot wander. They will mew when hungry but at that age you should be feeding them 4 - 5 times a day. At 4 weeks you can add canned wet kitten food to their diet. By the end of week 4 they should weigh 15 ounces. Make sure you help them urinate and deficate as they may not be able to do so themselves yet. Please try whatever you can do feed the kitten as soon as possible - it's very important that it receives nutrients! Just make sure the milk doesn't flow too fast or the kitten could choke on it. You can find small feeding bottles at Target and Walmart stores - but for right this minute, if you do not have a bottle, you can soak a corner of a cloth with the milk fluid and try to get the kitten to suckle it.

You can also try feeding her wet kitten food and add some kitten formula to it (like KMR). It is important for the mother and her kittens to be checked by a vet. I don't have a scale to weigh the kittens yet I'm getting one tomorrow, they are about 2 to 3 weeks one is big and walking around the others is a little more wobbly and smaller, I feed the little one about 5ml and the big one can chug 10 easy. is this a good amount? A 2- week old kitten should be given 9 to 11 ounces per day - with approximately 7 feedings/per day at 10ml per feeding. A three-week old kitten 12 to 15 ounces per day (spread out over 6-7 feedings per day at 14ml per feeding). But all kittens are different so it may vary with yours. Is the little one kept warm enough? It may need smaller amounts more frequently throughout the day and night. Hi, I feed my kittens regularly every 1-3 hours, with a bottle, as the one kittens shredded the nipple, and with out realize he bit off the nipple and swallowed it, he continued eating just fine, I'm just worried. Any comments will help.

Usually they will poop it out if that happens. Kittens have lived outside for 1000's of years and they learn to do stuff on their own. I thought the kittens that we were feeding swallowed one of the tips of the bottle we were feeding with but it seems just fine. I think this information is pretty good just some of it is a little to much. Not all kittens are the same so that chart does nothing for a lot of people with their kittens. And sense none of us here are vets we know nothing about what to feed the kitten or when to get them off of the bottle. The charts are fine but you should have done more video and less pictures. Great video though.
What does it mean if kitten feels cold? He keeps crying, I do have to force him to eat, and I have blankets wrapped around him, I dont know how old he is, but his teeth are barely out, he doesnt even have canine teeth yet, he was meowing in my backyard from morning around 5 when I went to work, and I came home at 3 and he was still there, I finally brought him in about 6, I didnt want to take him, cause I was worried his mother might come back but it never did, and it was getting dark out I didnt want him to get eaten by an owl

Start by holding them against your bare skin to raise their temperature slowly. Then, line a cardboard box with towels or a blanket to make a nest, and put a well-wrapped heating pad set on low in the bottom of the box. Make sure the setting is low. to keep them warm.. what we did is we put them on a carton box.. and placed 4 bottle of hot water on the four sides of the box.. then covered it with a blanket or towel.. we replace it 3 times a day..
Hello Philix, Kittens should not be given cow's milk. KMR formula is always a good choice when feeding orphaned kittens; however, there are other formulas that you can use. While this is cute, never feed them on their backs. Kittens should never be bottle-fed on their backs, as it makes it extremely easy for them to swallow "the wrong way" and end up with aspiration pneumonia. Although dangerous in healthy adults animals, pneumonia can quickly kill a neonate, particularly an orphan kitten.
Our neighbors found a stray kitten and we got her in our home safe she just came from the vet and has respiratory infection and she doesn't want to drink what can l do? We try to get her to drink..
Hi Marit - first of all thank you for caring for the little kitten! We highly recommend checking with your vet about helping the kitten to drink. It may be that he is too blocked up to swallow. Medication that your vet prescribed should help, but please contact him or her. Keep us posted!
Maddie's Fund Education She did drink a little bit, just a tiny bit just now, tomorrow she's going back to the vet.. We're praying for the best, it's so heartbreaking what's going on, there's a woman out here in the village she's has stray cats in her yard and she's keep on feeding them and let them breed and she's not taking them in, this kitten went away from her yard so we the kids were able to get her, there's like 14 feet of snow out here now, this kitten walked up to the children we tried searching for the others there's at least 30 cats in total including adults.. and a least 10 more kittens we haven't found any it shattered us but we got one.. we're trying to get her to drink often, she had fluids by needle giving by the vet, she has no fever which is good, she's getting another check up tomorrow. Let's prey for the best. We'll try to give her as much as we can without pushing it too hard. She's a beautiful young female only 6 weeks old... found in the blizzard winds in 14 feet of snow =[

Are you kidding? Feeding a 4-week-old kitten FISH? What you def need to do FIRST is GET THAT OFF HIS DIET. Only kitten who are 6 weeks and older should be weaned onto solid food. And are you giving him kitten formula or cow's milk? If you're giving him cow's milk, STOP! If you're giving him kitten formula, idk. You should still take the fish off his diet.

Hello. My cat has three two week old kittens and i just recently noticed that while two of them got quite large, the third one who was the last born is really tiny and I could feel her bones. I've seen her latching on to her mother, but I'm worried. Should I buy formula and attempt to feed her, or is it too late to save her?

Maddie's Institute She was responding well to it and was getting more alert, but we noticed the problem too late. She fell asleep like normal wrapped up in a warm blanket, but the next morning we found that she died in her sleep. She was just too weak. We're keeping an eye on the other two in case they get sick too, but seeing that they're still very energetic, I guess she already had some complications and her mother knew it. She was the last born after all.
What do I do if the kitten wont take the teat?.I have a runt of the litter who is half the size and really skinny compared to his 4 siblings, I picked up some formula & a bottle from the vet today so I can try hand rearing him because he just isn't getting anything from his mum since she either moves away from him, or his siblings barge him out of the way.I tried to feed him, and he was squirming around and refused the teat of the bottle, even when it had a drop of the milk there for him.
Hi Kerrie, Great that you are taking such good care of the little kitten! If he isn't taking to the bottle nipple, make sure he is warm and that he has urinated/deficated before (and after) feeding (his belly may be too full). Make sure the formula is warm (not hot). Let the formula drip - maybe the slit isn't big enough (best are cross hatch slits in the nipple). Are there any signs of illness? Runny eyes? Diarrhea? He may need intervention, like tube feeding. +Maddie's Fund Education He doesn't appear sick, he has a couple fleas on him which the Vet said to flea treat his mum and it should cover him too, So I'll try that when I get paid. I managed to get him to drink a bit, had to force it a little which I really hate doing, but he began to suckle at it.. So some is better than none at all. He is definitely nice and warm, I have the heaters going in my house to keep the place nice and toasty, and he also has my body heat too when I pick him up, I hold him on my chest with my hand around him since he likes that, he stops meowing immediately after I hold him that way.. Good job, Kerrie! He will get used to the bottle nipple but it's best if he can feed right from his mom to get the important antibodies only she can provide. Maybe when the others are sleeping you can place him near her teat?
+Maddie's Fund Education I have been moving the others out of the way when they are asleep and putting him on the teat... I am using the formula to help supplement so he can grow.. He is 2 and a half weeks old and weighs only 95 grams.. His siblings weigh around 150-200g already and are beginning to stand up and walk a few steps, where as he still can't stand up, he just rolls around.
Kerrie Owen Kerrie, thank you for the information. I would give this info to your vet. Keep doing what you are doing until you can take him in for an exam. Some kittens are late developers, but you'll want to rule out any problems that can be attended to by a qualified veterinarian. Keep us posted!
I am in Houston Texas and we're in a really bad hurricane and I just found a baby kitty that's been abandoned for 24 hours the mama cat passes by it and it's crying and it is rejecting it the kitty is so hungry right now and I don't have any way to get a bottle for it at a feed store right now any suggestions please it is a little bigger than the ones you have in the video

The kitten may be able to suck on a cloth that has been soaked in formula or replacement milk.
