It's pretty inspirational to see student films like these, especially on film(16mm in this case). I'm planning to purchase an old camera and make my own movies using old school visual effects and matte paintings.

+Jane Beanette Oh, it's paintings on glass. You can do anything that has to do with backgrounds and mix it with the live footage. Simplistic explanation, I know. That's how they did it before computer generated animation. The cameras are not cheap but they're not expensive either, affordable prices can be found on ebay, for example. Cheers

This footage (Super 16mm?) looks just amazing! Great film and stunning cinematography. Very sharp (beating many a 35mm release print), yet silky. Seems like you have control over the shutter angle (I see a strobe effect in some shots) and great control over depth of field. Love the natural colors - and just a hint of grain as not to be distracting or too "indie/retro-gritty/experimental" looking. This is top notch on all levels!

Very interesting concept! This was really good! Definitely experimental, but not so abstract that I couldn't tell what was going on. Really cool idea.

brillant work...funny i thought it was going to end up him in a coma and trying to find his way out or something...one thing i would say is 4:34 when he is in the rain,i felt it didnt look that real, the way it was coming off him.maybe pour a little bit less and dont have it as focused on just him.But maybe im wrong and he was actually in rain and im just stupid!was brillant video tho.you deserve alot more subscribers..im sharing this on facebook and all

the description helps :) it says "A dark, experimental take on the five greatest stages of grief, as a lone man, trapped in a nightmarish world, searches for his lost lover." and also: "Inspired by Gute Nacht. You really expect him to edit the film like they did in the old times by cutting and gluing the celluloid films? Every filmmaker who works with 16 mm or 32 mm films first digitizes the films and then edit them ( except Quentime Tarantino.)

I am 16 and wish to pursue a career in filmaking. However what worries me is that the industry is getting more and more digital and film is starting to be used less and less. And it would be a great shame if FILMS stoped using FILM all together, as it really is an art using film in it's self, having small shooting ratios when you are on a tight budget, which i know can be difficult at times but at the end of the day it is an art.

This was a much more interesting concept than your previous short film - closed doors. You've definitely matured in your directorial approach and the fractured editing and narrative of this film definitely gives it the edge. However, I didn't see any use of this tripod you borrowed? Almost every shot was shaky, which is a big turn-off for me personally and in my opinion, cheapens the film. However, one thing I must say is that the shot where his wife appears, and the switch in focus was genius.

Awesome Man. its not common to see Film white balanced the way you did it without pushing the contrast too much. There are almost no resources to study Film techniques anymore. I would like to know the procedure how someone would do it just interested though i shoot on digital.

I am a filmmaker and i Love Film as well but its not the Paint the Painter uses that makes him great its what he makes at the end via water colors or oil paint. its what you make that grabs the emotion of the people who watch it. film or digital its what you can do that makes a great film.

I just can't stop admiring your work! You belong in the film industry making millions and inspiring many! Just one question about this film. The story was quite foggy to me. Based on the title and the car crash scene, I'm guessing it was about his "trip" through death and his arrival in the afterlife. Am I correct?
