Band Member: What's the use? Nobody's listenin' to us anyway. Band Leader: Well, they don't listen to us at dinner either. Come on, let's play. Keep us warm. Orpheus. (band plays this) Tommy @0:08: Music to drown by! Now I know I'm in first class!
I LOVE this Song, this is actually gonna be our last song of our last concert of the school year on 2 the second of may. So happy my high school orchestra teacher said we’re gonna play it❤
My high school orchestra teacher is having me play this piece for our last concert and it’s probably my favorite song of the year so far 😭🙏 (I broke my arm so I couldn’t play it 😔)
it is the can-can. the proper name is Orpheus In The Underworld, this was a comic-opera based on the Greek story of Orpheus, the original story goes something like this, a man named Orpheus who played the lyre with a beautiful voice, Orpheus fell in love with a girl named Eurydice. But then Eurydice was bit by a poisonous snake, leading her to an eternal rest in the underworld. But Orpheus couldn’t handle not being with her, he longed just to be with her so he went to the underworld and played Hades a song. Orpheus’s enchanting song led Hades to let Eurydice go with Orpheus. But Hades added a curse. He warned Orpheus, “If you were to look at Eurydice, she will come back to me.”, Orpheus agreed because he was desperate, so they walked out of the underworld happily but Orpheus didn’t hear Eurydice behind him so he turned around and looked at her, leading her to vanish. Orpheus never forgave himself. Meanwhile Offenbach’s version is the same thing but instead of being upset, he was glad she was gone because his mentality was like “Thank goodness, now I don’t have to deal with her anymore” and then the underworld is cheering, singing and dancing because they have another eternal soul to keep.
