There may be a subtle difference in sound, but the bigger difference between these two styli (especially with both mounted in the Mix cartridge) is in tracking and handling, things that are more difficult to convey in this context. The Mix is spherical while the Club is elliptical, a difference that is going to impact the wear on your records, the longevity of your stylus, and the ability of the stylus to track accurately under adverse conditions such as back-cuing, playing records that may not be in pristine shape, etc. The Club cart has hotter coils than the Mix cart, meaning hotter signal (2mV more than the Mix) which will help to get your music above the noise floor of your system and provide a better s/n ratio at the expense of headroom. The Club has 25db of channel separation at 1kHz, tapering off to 15db at 15kHz compared to the Mix which has 20db of separation at 1k tapering off to the same 15db at 15k - not a difference most listeners will pick up on. In most other meaningful and measurable ways, they offer remarkably similar specs and performance.
I was trying to find articles describing the difference in sound, but this does a way better job than words can describe. I'll have to check if you have other cartridge comparisons..
They never would have thought these days DJs do their mixes even with USB-drives ... ;-)! I appreciate well done vinyl sets so much, it have some kind of a magic touch today; all the best and thanks again :-)!
Excellent video, thanks. Tbh i could barely discern any difference whatsoever, but judging by the other comments i seem to be on my own in that regard.
Really can't hear a difference. People saying so just bought the club and are tying to make themselves feel better they're probably listening on a phone speaker as well. The point of the club needles Is for high output systems. You're not gonna hear the difference unless you go over 4k of power. There is no discernable difference on a stereo system or headphones. This is a fact. I used to repair turntables and build crossovers and rigs. 😂 2:00
nice comparison, to improve the quality I replaced the stylus of my concorde gold with an OM10 (comparable to a 2M red) and the difference was immediately felt (for the better)
Great video, a listened to the comparison by Mojaxx of DJ City and the difference is much more noticeable in this recording. Very interesting in that this is a stylus test, and my guess is the Club stylus was placed on the Mixx cart. Again the clubs have an edge. Pretty sure mixing matching carts and styli is doable but not recommended. I wonder what the difference between a full cartridge and matched stylus comparison sounds like. I'll find out soon as I have the mix and this comparison sold me on upgrading the the clubs. I found a good deal too. thx for this.
@@AmbientWanderer They are "Nice to have" I found them brand new 15% off so they were just over $300 for the pair. They are a bit more punchy and there's more "air" to them but not a night day difference over the very capable Mix's.
I do like the sound of the Mk2 Club styli on the Mix cart, but I'm interested if it's possible to compare with the Club styli on a Club cart? Has anyone actually compared them side by side or have any experience of that? is it likely to be just output level differences or something more 'musical'. I have the Mix Mk2s and really would like to upgrade the sound for ripping my collection - so only needing the styli would be good cost saver.
From my experiance the tracking isn't as good on the MK2 Mix stylus. I found them to skip quite alot on records that had light surface scratches and general wear and tear. I upgraded to the Scratch series and have been much happier with them.
Szia ! Először is köszönjük a hiánypótló videót ! Pont most nézegetem a Mix/Dj/Club Ortofonokat, így keveredtem ide hozzád . Valóban hallani némi differenciát kizárólag fülesben, bulin szerintem 10000-ből egy ember hallja meg, itt ugye el is dönthető ki/hogyan használja ( megéri e a közel dupla ár? ) . De még egy kérdés a tisztán látás végett: ugyanannyi kilométer van mind kettő Concorde-ban ? Vagy a Mix már leharcoltabb, a Club meg egy 0 kilométeres ? Köszönöm a válaszodat !
Random question guys but would be truly helpful if some1 could let me know if u can put the club stylus on the mix concord cart ? Or even use the scratch stylus on the mix cart ?? Would appreciate it if some 1 could let me know, hopefully it does as seems a bit crazy having to replace the whole cart just for a better stylus
Yes all the stylus are interchangeable between cartridges with the mkII concordes, that's exactly what he's doing in the video, swapping the Mix stylus out for the Club on the Mix cartridge body.
listened on my audio technica ath-m50x headphones, didn't even look at the screen just listened and I couldn't hear any difference, could be youtube compression, I'm not sure.
Interesting comparison, hard to tell any major differences listening on my phone. I’ve had 2 x Ortofon Mix Cartridges replaced under warranty, they seem to last about 6 months. I’ve now switched to Ortofon Reloop Black. I’ve found the Reloop sound better , play louder and are cheaper.
It sounds about the same because you are using both needles in the same cartridge but try the diamond needle in the yellow cartridge and you'll see the big difference
