It's not required but it does make it nicer. It will cut deeper and have no soot marks around the engraving. I have never actually used one but I've heard that a fish aquarium pump is good enough. I bought one and the hose but I never got it set up. The catch is you'll probably have to 3D Print an adapter to put the air hose onto the laser head.
Hi Kenneth, this is the guy who made the air assist I plan to use. I have it all printed but still haven't gotten around to installing it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m9faxWKwpkU.html
Honestly I haven't tried it because I heard it doesn't work well, just melts the plastic. I should give it a go with a scrap piece or something. I would be wary of the fumes though, from burning plastic.
I have assembled the 20 w laser, ( 2 of them) bought a kids laptop (KANO) from Best Buy..$200, you assemble that as well. Windows 10. Fun (with a beer). I am trying Laser Gerbil first.. BIG question is.....Ok, How do I do a test burn, like what files do I import to Laser grbl, (jpg? pdf?) what speed and laser power do I use? What material? Is Lightburn still $40?
Laser GRBL should accept multiple formats or jpg or png should work. I used png in the video as that's my usual format. Speed and power all depend on the material and whether you're cutting or burning. The Ortur manual has a page of suggested settings for different materials. The power on it is listed weirdly. "s1000" is 100%. What material is up to you, wood, cardboard, leather, etc. Just make sure you have a well ventilated area, especially with leather. My garage smelled like burning flesh for days. 😂 Lightburn is 2 prices depending on what laser you have. For the Ortur it's $40 after the 30 day free trial. I actually just paid for it a few days ago. I showed a power/speed scale test in the video. Here's a website that will generate a Lightburn file for you. I was also thinking of making a quick video on making your own. www.o2creative.co.nz/laser/lightburn_basic_generator.php
Technically yes. You can buy it and never pay again. But after a year you'll stop getting updates and have to pay to upgrade if you want them again. My first year actually just ended.
Hi Phil, Do you have a reference file for the power scale and speed test ? That would be a really useful in determining performance. Thanks for your video.
I'm pretty sure this comes with the laser but here it is. Note where it says s1000 that's 100% power, s200 is 20%, etc. Don't know why they did that. m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81BLgNiMNoL.pdf
Thanks! That is Rustoleum Painter's Touch 2X Satin Oasis Blue spray paint. 2 coats. Then 1 coat of the same in Satin Oasis Black. The laser burns away the black, leaving the blue behind.
@@macmund Sorry I didn't see the question. I used 3000 / 21 but keep in mind it's a 20w laser and using blue spray paint. The settings will differ depending on the paint color and number of coats. That's why we do test grids as shown in my new video.
The Captain America canvas took about 2 hours. A full tile is also about 2 hours. Something that's just line work like the car or millennium falcon could be 3 or 4 minutes, depending on the size and detail.
I assume that would be in the instructions for your laser. This one has a little metal cylinder that you place under the laser module and adjust the height to match it. If you don't have something like that. I would set your laser to fire at a very low setting, put a price of black paper under it, then adjust your focus to get the smallest foot you can.
Roughly, more power and more safety. You could watch my video on the pro for more detail. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VaRij4RSD84.html
Добрый день! Подскажите, пожалуйста, характеристики блока питания (выходные напряжение, сила тока, полярность в штекере и его диаметр). А то я свой потерял, теперь надо подобрать аналог :( У меня ортур лазер мастер 20Вт
The engraving was 3000 speed(mm/m) 100% power. The cutting was 100 speed, 100% power, 3 passes. Keeping in mind the thickness of the wood and it's a 20watt laser. Best to do some tests for your material. I just posted a video on making a test grid.
